Rating: Summary: My Pick in the Pocket PC Arena Review: I have been shopping and drooling over the current mix of Pocket PC PDA’s for over six months now. I have struggled with the choice of the sleekness of the Ipaq, the sturdiness of the Jornada or the hybrid Casio. I realize that all of these companies make budget models that either lack color or substitute serial for usb or lack a cradle or even cut the RAM in half. These models didn’t interest me. As the Pocket PC is Microsoft based I new whatever applications I put on them would be bloated compared to the palm so a large amount of memory and a USB cable seemed a must to me.I chose the Jornada 548. The Jornada has the slowest processor of the big three, E-125, IPAQ 3650 and Jornada 548. It also has one of the lowest color depths. For all these faults I still chose the unit. My reasons are pretty straightforward. The Jornada is cheaper than the comparable Casio and cheaper then the comparable IPAQ. The second reason was the display. The IPAQ display was gorgeous but out of my price range. The Casio display was supposed to be better but in my humble opinion it stunk. This became especially clear when using the Microsoft Reader function were the Casio letters looked purple and fuzzy versus black and crisp on the IPAQ and Jornada. Lastly I liked the case better. The protective cover beats the Casio unit and the IPAQ requires an additional piece to use CF cards. (Sold separately of course:) I have yet to see a real downside to the slower processor unless I am really multitasking. The TFT display is great indoors but is inferior to the IPAQ indoors. Overall a great unit that beat the competition for my needs.
Rating: Summary: I don't know how I got along without it! Review: When HP offered the keyboard with the Jornada, I decided that now was the time to buy. It syncs flawlessly with Outlook. This is like having a desktop in the palm of your hand. I can answer email, manage my schedule and connect to the internet with the sockets modem. When I get back to the office and sync, my email is sent and calendar updated. It is a great buy. I also recommend purchasing HP Notes and you will be a remote information station.
Rating: Summary: Awsome (But I'm selling it for a good price>>Read On) Review: e-mail me at neomorpheus69@hotmail.com with what you think is a fair price. READ ON>>>>> This thing rules, forget about the ipaq, i've seen my friends, this is faster and has better color. The Cassiopedia doesn't compare. Palm? Are you kidding, this thing rocks palms world. I can't say enough about this thing. Okay, first, I take the train home, so the entire time I do e-mail with my keyboard. (The keyboard, which you can't buy b/c I already sold it types almost as fast as a regular keyboard.)On the thirty minute ride I answer 60 e-mails in full color, when I get home i sync it with outlook and there already waiting in my outbox when I open it. The color is astonishing, I listen to mp3's all day, read books with micrsoft e-book, and have programs that work fantastically like contacts, tasks, calendar, notes, microsoft word, and excel. (Plus games downloaded from the internet.) It plainly, just rocks. One problem, I just switched jobs, and they gave me a free palm, and now I have to use it. I mean, in my free time i guess i could use my Jornada, but whats the point of having two PDA's. So I need to sell it. EMAIL ME AT neomorpheus69@hotmail.com with what you think is a fair price, and we can negotiate. It is in great condition, and I'll throw in the leather case. The user guide and everything else is with it, except for all the advertisements that come with it from Microsoft and HP. So if you want to buy it, e-mail me. We'll work something out, like i'll sell it directly to you through ebay.
Rating: Summary: Get one . . . NOW! Review: Get this organizer and you won't be sorry. It's super-easy to use and very compact. I originally thought I'd never NEED an organizer . . . this one has proven to me that even though I don't need it, it sure does make my life easier!!! The screen is easy to see and navigate. There are plenty of online-programs that are available for download and synching is a breeze. How have I made it so long without my Jornada??? (Oh, and if you can, spring for the Targus keyboard, too. Especially if you're a student looking for an easier way to take notes.)
Rating: Summary: Awesome PDA Review: The HP 548 is a great investment. I was first thinking about an Ipaq, but moved away from it due to its limited memory expansion. The HP hooked up to my NT desktop without a hitch with a serial cradle. For the price you cant beat it, with an Ipaq you will get a faster processor, but how many people actually use this thing to run mass programs? I highly recoment the HP 548.
Rating: Summary: Jornada 548 is a Great Product Review: I purchased my first PDA about 2 weeks ago and it was a HP Jornada 548. Since this is my first PDA, I can't compare this product to others, however, I can say that my first impresion is a GREAT impression. I had no issues understanding how to use the product and felt it was such a great product, I purchased a second Jornada 548 for my wife. She doesn't care too much for technology, but I feel this is one product that will help keep us in sync. Also, I have enjoyed the eBooks capability so much, I have dedicated some time to develop an eBook creation tool. I do love my first PDA!
Rating: Summary: Everything You Want Review: I have owned my Jornada 548 for nine months. I tried every other gadget and daytimer imaginable and this has worked the best. The things I like: 1. Excellent file compatibility with the MS Office suite. It sync's very well with Outlook. 2. Combined with a portable Targus keyboard I can do 90% of my work while on the road. 3. With a flash card I take my office files, music, and literature with me. 4. It's metal and durable. 5. It's great looking. (I know this shouldn't matter but it does) 6. It has never quit or burped. It's been dependable right from the time I took it out of the box. Things I wish were better: 1. I wish the screen was active matrix because of the outdoor visibility issue. 2. I wish the processor was faster. Would I switch to a Palm or another Pocket PC maker because of these? No way.
Rating: Summary: Most bang for the buck Review: Yes: The iPAQ has TFT and 206MHz, but costs A LOT more, That's why I won't put the fifth star. BUT with the Jornada you get a compact flash slot IN the chassis (no extra bulk) and a metal flip cover right over the screen which keeps your strokes in secret: no need for an extra pouch or bag (no extra bulk, again, so it REALLY fits my shirt pocket). NOW it's my MP3 player, my Palm, my photo album, my Notebook, and I do even show my own made MPEGs and JPGs to my fiends at work. Neat. It's my working companion (loaded with medicine texts). BEWARE: 1- CSTN screen means direct sunlight won't let you see anything. 2- You'll fill up your 32MB or RAM very soon (so many uses...) so be prepared to wish a 64MB compactflash card (don't worry about buying an extra jacket or adapter: it's there). NICE looking: Executive class looking. iPAQ looks like a toy, and seems very plastic to me. This one looks slim and chick.
Rating: Summary: Worth the wait Review: I anxiously awaited the release of the PocketPC and originally leaned toward the Compaq iPac as my PDA of choice. I waited instead in order to get some feedback from the braver souls who bit instantly. Glad I did. Yes, the iPaq is faster and it has that neat sleeve thing going on but I chose the HP 548 for the way it felt in my hand. The sides have a rubber grip that will not allow it to crash to the floor and, for me, this was a major selling point since I knew I'd be pulling it out of my purse and using it on the go. Also, I don't want to carry around an extra sleeve in order to add a compact flash since I knew I'd be using it primarily as a PIM (and for all the neat Audible books), most likely wouldn't be connecting to the internet, watching tv or viewing pictures on it. I've been enormously pleased with its ease of use and stability. There was NO learning curve whatsoever since it synched my Outlook and chosen Excel and Word files. That was it, I was ready to go. I didn't have to learn Graffiti and have done extremely well with Transcriber. The color's fine for what I use it for and the speaker is no better or worse than my Walkman's. I have two minor complaints. 1. The little flap that covers where the flash card goes looks like it's going to be a problem further down the line. Already I can imagine having to scotch tape the darn thing in eventually. 2. Visibility in bright sunlight stinks so much it's hard to access the control to change the backlighting. There were some syncing issues with the handy USB cradle but this has more to do with ActiveSynch, I believe than HP. I synch via serial cable now with nary a problem. As with most gadgets I realize I'll probably use this baby for a year or so before upgrading but so far it seems that decision will be based more on gadget lust than necessity.
