Summary: Finally a handheld that works
Review: A real stunner right from the start. The screen is absolutely super.

With my Palm I spend days trying to get my sync with Outlook properly running. This was click and go from the beginning. A nice feature is that the Jornada stays connected as long as it is in the cradle or on the cable. My regural portable pc (Dell) is downgraded to a typewriter. My Calender and most of the mail is handeled by the Jornada.

It is a pity that a Zip utility is not included. Bsquare has a special utility for the PocketPc.

PocketWord on the other hand works beautifully. It reformats the documents into a handy screenwidth column, no left to right scrolling! And the up- and down is controlled with the scrollwheel. Very practical and with the good screen makes easy reading of documents.

.pdf files are still a problem though. No automatic reformatted for the pocketpc, so you have to scroll left to right for every line. (Primer software)

The stylo is not as good as my Palms, too flat and not very practically stored.

Summary: you'll never look back...
Review: I debated and debated over owning a palm, I never wanted that gray tone screen though,my first PDA was an HP 620LX I bought in November 98, It was great-except it was bulky and heavy to carry. I did like the keyboard, and even thought about going to a 690LX. Then I heard the 548's were coming, so I made up my mind to try to get one. It took about 5 weeks, but it was the best move I've made. The software went in without a glitch, I even kept the 620, now I carry the 548, synch it with my desk top, then dump that info into the 620 about once a week. The 620 stays on a cradle at the office, the 548 in always in my purse and the desktop is in control. I am thrilled with the purchase.

I bought the pretec modem and can leave the laptop at home. It works great with the 548. The only challenge was finding a case/holder for it all.

This is one of the best decisions I ever made. If you want it all, you need to own this unit. Pictures, recorder, fav songs, contacts, calendar, and email- the only thing it doesn't do is fix your lunch!

Summary: First Time PDA
Review: I bought my HP 548 a few weeks ago and I am impressed. I have never had a PDA before and was seriously considering a Palm Vx and spent about two weeks searching all the web sites about the Palm Vx. After reading in Time Magazine about the Pocket PC I decided to wait and see what the new kid on the block was offering. I guess I was hooked by the extra features of the HP (Word, Excel, Reader, Audio etc) and the colour screen.

Initially I regretted buying the HP as my boss purchased a Palm Vx at the same time. The HP was too heavy and I hated both the flimsy cover and the positioning of the stylus. In addition I was familiar with Eudora as an email package and had not really used Outlook at all which the HP would not work with.

After using the product for a couple of weeks I am happy with the purchase. My boss who felt that I had made the wrong purchase now agrees that the HP 548 was a better investment than his Palm Vx.

I ocassionally use the 548 for something other than work, and my nieces love the games.

All in all I would say that if you want something more than a glorified filofax then the HP 548 is the way to go.

Summary: Truly amazing product!
Review: I've owned Palm devices for almost two years now. Hate to say it, but this beats the Palm hands down! The Jornada is incredible! It's thin, sleek, sexy metal case gives it an appearance that begs to be touched. And it's a multimedia marvel. You haven't lived until you listen to your favorite MP3 song while writing an email message.

My only complaint with this unit is the stylus, but that can be easily substituted with a better unit. In fact, you can buy a Palm III stylus pack for about $7, which works great with the Jornada. The display isn't the best I've seen, but its acceptable. The price could be a little lower in my opinion, however, you get far more for your money with a Pocket PC than you do with a Palm!

I highly recommend this product to anyone. HP has a winner on its hands!

Summary: An excellent Asistant
Review: I bought the Jornada 548 one month ago, i can tell everybody looking for the right handheld that after 4 months of checking PDAs and handhelds, this is the best I coul get and it's great. A nice color performance with much memory, all programs you need to make your life easy. Some tips, if want this device you must get a case, it's got a delicated finish that must be protected; I was looking for a bussines calculator, too bad that being a HP the bussines calculator it has is the omnisolver and not the kind of programs HP financial calculator's got, so I can't get rid of my calculator.

Summary: Great But Not For Me!
Review: I recently purchased a Jornada 545 Pocket PC. It was great at first until I wanted to start downloading music and books. It was complicated to use. But the setup is really quick. I thought the writing recognition software was awesome. It is NOT wireless out of the box but you buy flash cards for that. I liked this product but is to complicated for me so I guess I stick with my great Palm VII.

Summary: Really handy, useful computing
Review: I'm a Presbyterian (USA) pastor always busy with my Outlook calendar, to-do list, and email, lugging my laptop from home to office, hooking up to the office PC and net, and so on. In comes the Jornada 548 Pocket PC that syncs everything fast. No more laptop lugging. I just move anything I need to the Jornado and sync it to the office PC in the morning and back to the home PC at night.

With Pocket Streets I can find new addresses. With the note taker I can record on the run, or scribble my mileage start/finish and other notes, even a grocery list, and I'm ready to go.

Of course, I'm pretty cool for an old dude. Was talking about the post modern info/tech society recently. Popped out the Jornada and read my notes off it's amazingly clear screen, able to scroll just with the slip of the thumb on the little scroll wheel.

Oh, I do a bit of investing too. With AvantGo built in, a nifty freebie that is customizable to allow you to grab lots of web info through your sync line to a computer that's online. And in those goodies you can set up your portfolio and everytime it syncs your portfolio gets updated along with news. Too much good stuff to write about.

Do I love this thing? Been waiting for somethign this useful.

Summary: Great Product, Limitless Functionality
Review: This product truely deserves its name. It has a great form factor and can do so many things. It is the first PDA that my wife actually uses. Synchronization is super simple, and its suite of applications are truly stunning. From browsing the internet, to playing pacman to working with spreadsheets and word documents.. the list goes on and on.. no comparison with the palm product, it is simply at a different level. You will love this product.

Summary: The HP 548 is EVERYTHING you need!
Review: The HP 548 is EVERYTHING you need in a pocket PC I have just finished my first full day with the new HP Jornada 548 Pocket PC. It is everything I have ever expected in a hand-held computer. This is the third unit I have tried over the last two years but the first time I have been impressed. Microsoft and HP have finally developed a worthwhile pocket PC. It is the perfect solution to carry your calendar, contacts, and task list with you. It is very effective on the internet, expecially for email. The new Reader software is AWESOME and it plays music too. What else could one need?

Summary: Pocket PC Rocks - (and my Palm Vx is now just a rock)
Review: Sat next to someone on a flight home that had a Pocket PC and had to have one. This thing is truly useful ... I guess I bought into the Palm hype of less is more, but this thing has significantly lightened my briefcase ... I do not carry my laptop as much ... it sync's seemlessly with e-mail and outlook, and I can review and annotate Word and Excel attachments. My minidisc player is now sitting next to my Palm Vx in my desk drawer ... replaced by a couple of flash cards -- the Media Player quality even with the cheap headsets HP ships with it are great.

The handwriting recognition is far and above much better than Palm -- Remember the Palmer method of writing in grade school ... this is it ... I ADMIT IT ... I HATED GRAFITTI!

Only drawbacks I can see so far are hardware. The screen is hard to see in full daylight, I would have liked to see the Compaq iPaq but just couldn't wait to see if the TFT screen is better than the passive screen on the Jornada. And Omnisky needs to hurry up and get a wireless modem out for the Pocket PC. Other than that this thing far outweights the Palm.
