Summary: Better Than Expected, and I Expected a Lot
Review: I bought my IPAQ 3630 in Heathrow Airport on my way back to the states last August after researching PDA's and Pocket PCs on the web for months. A colleague had brought a Palm to Bulgaria with her in March and I was converted from thinking it was a "fun toy" to a real working tool during the week we spent on an intensive assignment.

By the time I purchased the IPAQ, I was afraid my expectations would far outstrip its capacity. The initial learning curve of becoming familiar with the device was relatively short, but, I am still experiencing the longer learning curve of finding just how flexible and functional the device is.

I have never been great at keep track of my paper and pen calendars and address books. This Pocket PC has proven its worth for this capacity alone. Synching every day with between my laptop Windows Outlook and the IPAQ, I have a consistantly updated and current calendar and my contact list is more complete and functional than ever.

But, that is just the beginning. I have recently added the expansion sleeve and a flash memory card and now have audible books and e-books available on demand. It's great.

I have also purchased an additional cradle and charger for home, so that it won't run down while being used at home. (That might be an indicator of how much its used. My fience and I enjoy the games on it at home as well and we play a lot.)

The one minor issue i have is that the stylus does not stay locked down any more. I worry that it will fall out and be lost, but, that hasn't happened yet.

I fully recommend the IPAQ, it really is proving itself daily.

Summary: Black and white, but top notch anyway
Review: I don't own the bundle, just the IPAQ itself, and the 3150 is an unbelievable value. The colour screen would have been a nice to have, but the functionality is unrivaled in any PDA that I have used, and I have not regretted getting the lower version to save myself both the wait and the money. It performs at a high level, very fast and capable of running much of the software out there. If there is any weakness it is the fact that the Intel StrongArm 206MHz processor is never fully utilized and is a little limited by the lower memory. Getting the Memory expansion would boost this up to it's full potential.

By being pocket PC, this PDA obviously handles windows wonderfully and other than the occasional reset, I have not had a single issue with syncing to any computer or transfering files.

I was happy with my purchase and I would recommend this PDA to anyone looking for functionality over a colour screen.

Summary: Great but do your homework first
Review: Hi. This is a great device. If you are in the market for a monochrome PDA then this could be the one for you. However, if you see something that says "paper white" diplay, don't believe it! This device has an LCD (grey/green) screen. Being that it has a higher resolution then any of the Palm mono devices it looks quite good. But it is not "white" in any way. Also, the 16meg of memory can be used very quickly if you add more programs to this unit. The bundle with the CF expansion is a good idea. Then just shop for the best price on a 64meg CF and you would be all set. If you are still interested after reading this then, GO FOR IT!

Summary: Blows Palm away...
Review: Ignore the comments from Palm devotees who fail to give Pocket PC a chance. I own both a Handspring visor and iPaq, and whilst the Visor is nice, the iPaq just blows it away. Great syncing, multimedia and applications, the only thing you'll need is plenty of memory for all the things you can do with it. Try doing serious e-mail or other work on the Visor and you'll soon give it up for a Pocket PC. And there is no screen better than the iPaq's!

Summary: Works for me. What's the fuss?
Review: How much can you ask for that fits into the palm of your hand? Honestly, I didn't expect much from any Pocket PC, Palm, etc. I just wanted a new toy like everyone else did. :) So I'm not going to sit here and brag that my iPAQ has "this, this and that" and yours does not. What's the use? In a year a better one will come out by another company and again those reviewers will sit there and say, "______ has more of this and that than the iPAQ does!"

Is it worth the money? I'm not sure...because you need to spend much more to make it even more "fantastic" than it is just like any other handheld device out there. But I don't regret spending nearly $600 for it. I mean people spend nearly $3000 for a laptop/notebook PC or Mac and those devices aren't as "powerful" as a desktop would be for that price.

Does it work for me? Sure, because I use it for what it is meant for (and a little more). I keep my schedules in there, jot notes, read the paper, all my friends' and family's numbers and addresses, write letters during long trips, I hardly forget anything because the alarms go off to remind me of tasks needed to be completed ... it all fits into my pocket and that's the greatest part. Oh, and I listen to music, play games, surf the net, too.

Well, I don't know if this review is really going to "help" anyone out there, but if you plan to buy one of these devices, just get one you can afford and one that works for you. There isn't really a "bad" device out there. I know people out there who have just about every single type of handhald PC or Palm and each one of them love it just as I love mine. Remember, think of this device as a simple organizer rather than a mini-PC because that's what it actually is. Don't expect it to run as great as your desktop or you'll be one of those reviewers who get all picky about it not having 'this and that.'

Summary: Disappointing device
Review: I received the compaq as a present and passed on my Palm III to a friend. The plus for this device is it has more memory but you will need it because the files aren't nearly as slim as the Palm files are. Second, it consumes batteries more than twice as fast as my Palm device. Lastly, I gave up access to thousands of convenient free applications by switching to this device which still has limited applications available. I long for my Palm back.

Summary: Perfect with OmniSky's wireless email/Internet service
Review: I started out as satisfied Palm OS user (first the Palm III, then the Vx) - but ever since I got the iPaq, there no turning back! The iPaq itself is a great tool, but add the OmniSky wireless service for access to email and the Internet and the iPaq is transformed into your personal mobile workspace! No more heavy laptops! The ipaq + expansion sleeve is a bit bulkier than a palm + modem, but it is more than worth it.

Summary: Once you go iPaq, you never go back!
Review: I had been a Palm OS user for 3 years before getting the Ipaq. But once I started using the ipaq, it was like I had been stuck in the stone age with the Palm OS. Oh my god, this thing is SSSOOOOOO cool. You probably already know all the business advantages it has. But let me tell you, this thing is a great conversation starter, espescially if you want to hook up with the ladies :) I usually just bust out my iPaq and start reading my Avantgo sites. Within minutes there's some really beautiful female by my side asking me questions about my PDA. So I usually show her all the features. Oh I make sure to open up Pocket Outlook and I let her enter all the vital information! :) Pretty slick huh!! :)

Summary: This is the coolest gadget on the Planet!!!
Review: Can't say enought about the Ipaq. I've had it for just over a week and already I'm reading Ebooks, Surfing the web and Wireless at work. It a do-it-all/have-it-all system. remember, its not a PDA!, its a true POCKET PC!!! You Gotta get it to believe it.

Summary: Wonderful combination of brains and beauty ...
Review: I have received mine 3 days ago, after about 6 months of using a Palm m100. PC synchronization, which IMHO is must feature in a PDA, works beautifully, I did not have to spend more than 10 minutes installing the new synchronization software over the old Palm HotSync, and I had all my agenda items, contacts, and notes, moved to the iPAQ.

All that and I have not actually had to install the included USB cradle yet - this was all done via my notebook's IrDA port!

Setting up IrDA equipped GSM phone connection to an ISP also went pretty smoothly, and I was able to download emails using a motorola Timeport (TriBand) one day after I got the iPAQ.

Now to the machine itself - certainly a LOT sexier than a m100 ... The screen really shines and the wealth of built in applications and add-ons is nice. email is usefull to an extent (vs. useless to my mind, in the m100). I also got myself a 'vaja' case, a class leader, it fits great, and is very convenient to use - single handed opening and closure are almost as easy as with the m100.

Some critique -

- The iPAQ, even though probably the most compact PocketPC PDA today, is still noticably larger and heavier than Palm Vx or m100, this could make a real difference to people who pocket carry their PDA all day long. I wouldn't even dare thinking about carriend one of these WITH an expansion sleeve in my pant's pocket.

- The included soft case is inconvenient, purchasing a better replacement is almost inevitable. Also, the device metal case is very slippery, holding a bare device in your palm is uncomfortable because of this.

- As bare bones, agenda /contacts manager, Palm would probably be the practical choice, if this is what you're after, then save your bucks and get one.

The pocket versions of window applications (word and excel), including email, MS money, can be usefull for many people though. Mainly because of the better screen (higher resolution, color, and clearness), and friendlier handwriting recognition (compared to palm). This, (and higher fun factor ...) make the iPAQ the more appealing PDA.
