Summary: Sorry, but I couldn't live without a CF slot!
Review: It's a nice unit but the lack of a CF socket significantly limits it's expansion capabilities. I decided to go with the Dell Axim. It has an SD socket as well as CF. I put a memory module in the SD socket to store my MP3's and an Ambicom wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b card in the compactflash socket for connectivity to my network and the internet. It's a sweet setup, even synchronizes to my desktop through the wireless connection. Think hard before you buy a unit without the CF socket.

Summary: Wow....Bset PDA for price
Review: I really wanted a Palm, but Palm obviously isn't serious about being the main PDA maker. I wanted a Palm OS 5 PDA, and you can't get one under [$$$]. I was looking for something with the latest with the best price. WALA...Viewsonic V35! This pda is awesome. I love it. It is small, compact, with new 300 MHZ Xscale processor. It does only have the available 36.45 megs of ram that everyone is talking about, but it is still a 5 in my book. It comes with a cradle, a travel charger, and a leather-like case, which is really slim. The screen is amazing. Colors are rich! Stylus retracts, and is very comfortable in your hand. I hope Palm gets there act together, cause I would recommend this over Palm and Sony's crazy [price]+ pda's! Zaurus are really nice too, but I can't swallow the price. Stay away from the Dell Axim, which is the direct competition of this PDA. It is allot larger and heavier. I believe you have to buy a case and a travel charger extra for it. Bluetooth cards are selling right now for V35, and WiFi should be out 1st quarter 03. The ActiveSync worked great with my PDA and I never lost connection or had a problem with losing sync.

Summary: Great Features for the Price!
Review: This is the first Pocket PC powered PDA I've used, having switched over from Palm OS. Having spent a great deal of time researching the pros and cons of various new units coming to the market, the V35 has the best combination of features for me. Thin form factor, excellent transflective screen, good speed, SDIO slot, and comes with and image and PowerPoint viewer, cradle and a nice, simple (and thin!) slipper case. Having had a bulker Palm IIIxe, I do appreciate the smaller size of this unit. The HP 1910 was a consideration in this alone, but the V35 wins out in all other areas for me. Much has been made about the 36.45 mb of user available RAM. No, it's not "great" for the power users, but it's plenty for most. It really was a marketing faux pas on Viewsonic's part, but even with that memory available it still compares very well in pricing/features to the new Axims, Toshiba 3xx series, HP 1910, etc. And, more importantly, they have corrected their literature and website to reflect available RAM. If you want a light, thin unit with a nice screen, good Xscale processor, SDIO slot, and good battery life, the V35 is a great unit for you. And if you are going to Pocket PC from a Palm V or 5xx series and liked those form factors, you'll have a hard time considering anything bigger.

Summary: Memory Lie
Review: The problem I have with my V35 is the incorrect information put out by Viewsonic that the V35 has 64 MB of memory. When you get yours you will see you only have 36.45 MB available for you to use. This product should not be sold as 64 MB.

Summary: Compare V35 to e310
Review: Screen is brilliant(transflective)! especially under sunlight;
Screen feels better, has a little resistance when writing, a bit of paper like feeling;
Shorter and fits pocket better;
Leather case much better compare to e310's;
Performance better than e310 when running multiple apps, but not much;
Very nice stylus!
Good buttons, they "clicks". e310's button too loose;
Better speaker sound quality and much louder;
AC adapter lighter and smaller. Similar soft reset rate, still buggy. Bad cradle. It looks nice and small, but lack of tight track. You could break the sync jack;
Plastic body, not cheap looking but still plastic...
Thicker. Again, plastic thing... but more acceptable than longer;
Earphone jack on lower right side, and no hole on the leather case. Basically you have to take out the PDA for doing anything. e310' earphone on top, so you can leave PDA in the case when enjoy music.

Summary: Trimed RAM
Review: Warning!, it only has 36.45MB of user accessible RAM. Though it has additional 5MB of FlashROM for the user that will last Hard resets.
This is because the OS must be copied from ROM to RAM before being able to be executed, just like in the Hard drive of a PC.

Summary: Small, fast and Beautiful Colors
Review: The ViewSonic V35 is an awesome machine. So small it easily fits in my shirt pocket replacing my trusty HP-12C. The colors are amazing and the speed is noticably faster than the E310 I compared it with. This product is very new and I don't know how reliable it is, but I have not run into any bugs yet and it integrates well into my PC environment.

Summary: Piece of Crap
Review: Granted, I didn't want to spend too much on one of these. I guess I kind of got what I paid for. There is a splotch on the screen that showed up just two months after receiving it. ViewSonic totally ignored me. The battery stinks. The screen freezes so I have to reset the dumb thing. I bought this back in July of 03. I hate it.

Summary: Don't buy this
Review: Before buying this product I thought a long time to choose between the V35 and HP1910 and finally decided in favor of v35.
I am using it with a 128MB SDCard for additional storage space.
Up to now, I did not have any problems with the device. One of the cons is it does not have many built-in gadgets like wireless (802.11b) or bluetooth, but in this price range those are impossible to find.
I frequently get online help from ViewSonic and so far they answered all my questions in two days time via email. Viewsonic runs a free upgrade program to PocketPC2003 (device comes with PPC2002) at the moment. Ive had a problem with this issue, because of the fact that I am living in Turkey, the online free upgrade program does not support me, but I ve contacted to Viewsonic and they agreed to send me a free upgrade cd if I would give them an address in US. But for US residents I dont think this will create a problem.
The good thing about the PPC2003 upgrade is that with the upgrade, it is said that (Ref: ViewSonic website and "http://www.socketcom.com/pdf/SDIOCompatibilityMatrix.pdf", the onboard SD slot gains SDIO (SD Input/Output) capability. This means, you can purchase a wireless SDIO card and use it to browse web or you can also get a Bluetooth SDIO and connect to devices using Bluetooth, possibilities are endless. As far as I know its strongest rival HP1910 does not have any SDIO and CompactFlash IO capability. I would recommend PDA buyers to be careful about the expansion capabilities of the devices they are thinking to purchase.
The onboard InfraRed port works fine. The TFT screen is well lit and provides comfortable usage. The device is made of metal looking plastic, it may be better if it is made of light metalsuch as aluminum or better titanium. The battery takes more than 4 hours depending on the processor usage.
ActiveSynch connection to PC works well. The portable poweradapter for charging is a good idea, you can take it with you and charge it whenever necessary just like your cell phone. It may be wonderful if an additional portable USB synch cable is provided with the device in addition to the provided cradle. Another wonderful thing would be an additional CF card slot, but I dont think anybody can find both of the slots in a device in the price range.
As a conclusion, with the additional expansion capabilities (SDIO)with the PocketPC2003 upgrade, this may be one of the best choices in this price range. I would also strongly recommend the usage of an additional memory card with the device.
