Review: I myself have the HP iPaq 1910, which I'm very happy with. I recently bought a V35 for my cousin's birthday, and also got a chance to play with it extensively. So my comments are more of a comparison with the 1910.

The V35 is about the same thickness as the 1910, but slight longer and wider. While specs say that it's also slightly heavier than the 1910, you can't really tell the difference, since both are very lightweight. Because the 1910 has more of a metallic feel while the V35 feels more plasticky (which is not to say the latter feels cheap!), there's an illusion that the V35 is actually lighter than the 1910. The bottomline is, the V35 feels very good in the hand, and its non-shiny, non-slippery surface makes it much easier to hold than the 1910.

Both the V35 and 1910 have 3.5" diagonal transflexive screens, and both are bright and beautiful. I think the 1910's screen sports richer colors, whereas the V35's is very slightly washed out, but still much better than the display on my old Audiovox Maestro (made by Toshiba). Like the 1910, the V35's touch screen is very responsive, and the backlighting is perfectly even.

While both models accommodate SD memory cards, the V35 has the added advantage of being SDIO compatible, although, admittedly, there aren't many (or any) SDIO devices here in the States right now. Part of V35's system memory is accessible as "flash storage," but the 1910 still has a bit more useable memory onboard.

My most positive impression of the V35 is it's well built and feels good in the hand, vs. 1910's slippery, easy-to-break feel. The battery life is also longer than the 1910; my estimate is 3.5 hours on average (playing MP3 files from a Lexar 256MB SD card with screen turned off) vs. 2-2.5 hours for the 1910. The V35 also comes with a docking cradle and a slip case, both of which are missing in the 1910 kit.

On the downside the V35's battery is not user-replaceable. (The 1910's is, and it has a back-up battery to conserve data in case of a completely dead main battery.) Given that the typical LiIon battery has a recycle life of about 500 times, if you charge the V35 once a day, the battery will die out in about 18 months. Of course, in reality the battery probably won't completely die by then, but its capacity/useable time will definitely be shortened considerably. (Just ask any Palm V user who bought the Palm more than 2 years ago.)

If I had to pick my Pocket PC again, I'd have a very hard time deciding between the iPaq 1910 and the V35. If you don't have to have the smallest and sleekist Pocket PC, I highly recommend the V35 for its longer battery life, included cradle and case, and SDIO-capable expansion.

In the end, though, you may just grab whatever is cheaper. :)

Summary: Viewsonic V35 Pocket PC
Review: I am enjoying this Pocket Pc. It has a crisp, clear screen. It switches from one task to another with ease. It is preloaded with very useful software. The Microsoft reader books are easy to read and you don't have to strain your eyes. The screen is easy to see indoors and out. I had trouble loading the software onto my desktop computer in order to get the two to communicate but with hard work I finally was able to Active Sync between the two. It is a little difficult to load new programs and files into the V35 but with practice it is going smoother. I would have liked to have had a built in modem with it but I have ordered a flash modem and we will see how it goes. Overall, I am pleased with the V35 and would recommend it for those looking for a useful Pocket PC.

Summary: Overall an Excellent Buy
Review: I've had Palm IIIxe and then Vx for a while. When I wanted to buy the next pda, I was seriously thinking about the sony clie series. But the more I researched the pocket pc series, the more I liked it. One big reason to go with pocket pc - with palm powered pda, you give up 30% of the screen just for writing place, plus you have to use their special grafitti. And Palm just announced that they're giving up grafitti (for legal patent reasons) and going with something similar to transcriber. Hey palm guys, pocket PCs already has it!!! And there are million other reasons for going with pocket pc.
My first pocket pc purchase was Compaq 3835. Going from Black-and-white screen, I totally loved the colors. But it was heavy, there were certain minor glitches, and the avantgo pages would take forever to load. So, I went with viewsonic mainly for faster processor, lighter weight, and the low price.
This unit has been amazing! Avantgo Pages load up super-fast; file transfer between desktop and pocket pc is much faster; playing files are so much faster and better. I've read on some reviews that viewsonic didn't perform too well when playing videos, but mine is flawless. Overall, this unit hasn't let me down yet.

Pros:
All the good things you heard about the screen is true. It's pretty bright!
Superslim and light.
Fast processor.
Nobody seems to have mentioned about the scroll-dial button on the side. I find it very handy for viewing files, addresses, etc.
The screen size is slightly smaller than compaq's. but I find it a plus, as, say, in microsoft reader, compaq would have the letters "stretched", whereas viewsonic shows them perfect.
If you're a solitaire freak, viewsonic has a better screen than compaq.

Cons:
Someone mentioned on this site that the stylus is cool. I liked compaq's "clicking" stylus much better.
compaq's "setting" icons are slightly better. Say, when viewing battery power, compaq would show the bar, plus the percentage. viewsonic has only the bar. though these differences are marginal.
I think they could've made a better leather case than this one. It leave black hairs on my screen, and is somewhat bulky. You essentially need to cover the scrren, so a plastic cover like compaq's should suffice.
I haven't had problem placing my pc on cradle. Though taking it out takes some effort.
I find compaq's look/keys to be slightly more stylish. But viewsonic is pretty stylish itself.
If you need a CF slot, go with dell. Though, from what I read, it's pretty thick and heavy. Since I'm around a computer all the time, wireless lan isn't a big deal for me.

Finally, this is a suggestion for microsoft in general. I wish they would make avantgo and other internet sites such that you can go back a page by hitting the left button, or pressing the scroll dial. It'll make reading interenet pages much faster, as you don't have to pull out your stylus everytime. Also, you should be able to go between internet links through up/down buttons, like in file explorer.
Plus, the only thing I miss in my palm is the software for finding the shuttle time at my university. they don't have that software for pocket pc, nor is there a text version online (to save the times as a note or word document), and I'm too lazy to write them down myself. Though you have tons of other software for pocket pc.

Summary: Awesome Review
Review: I recently bought this pda (from amazon.com) and i love it, it is fast, it can be an mp3 player and it playes movies, the only downside is that it doesnt have a compactflash slot, but that's not a big deal since it has secure digital instead (slower, smaller, slightly more expensive) all around this unit's construction is very good, and it's very durable, and the d-pad is very good for gaming, if ur looking at a pocket pc 2002 pda, this is the one for you,... and it takes bout 3 weeks to get it shipped. i would say that if you are looking for a pda, and want one taht is like windows with plenty of processing power, buy this.

Summary: This is the best Pocket PC for the money!
Review: I bought the iPaq H1910 before I had this unit. The 1910 had a great screen but I just didn't like the feel of it for daily use and the buttons weren't very easy to push for navigating or gaming. Finally I just felt it wasn't the right one for me so I returned it for the Viewsonic V35. Boy did I make the right move! This unit is so much nicer to hold and use and the screen holds it's own against any other Pocket PC. The applications work great, battery lasts a long time and this thing is quick. It has no problems playing movie trailers, mp3's or anything else I throw at it. Plus it comes with a cradle (something the iPac h1910 did not)! Overall it's definetly the best Pocket PC for the money. Thumbs up to Viewsonic for an excellent product.

Summary: Light, bright, stable and quite sturdy, good battery life
Review: I switched from a Palm V. What a difference! No eyestrain anymore. The screen is bright, the colors help with reading calendars, contact information and e-mail. With an add-in 256 MB SD card there is plenty of storage for music and documents. It fits nicely into a shirt pocket, even with the semi-hard case, and is light enough not to notice. It has been running very stably and so far seems surprisingly sturdy. I suspect that the HP iPAQ Pocket PC h1910 is similar but the specs show a lot shorter battery life. The Toshiba e310/e335 is also similar but a bit larger and the screen did not look as bright. The Dell Axim X5 is heavier and larger but can accomodate a CF type II card in addition to an SD card. Regardless of your choice, I suggest getting one of several utilities that are available to keep track of memory and battery charge on the Today page.

Summary: Don't believe everything that you read!
Review: I bought this product thinking that it had 64 MB of ram, when really on 36.45MB is accessable... So if you want a product that has this much memory, pick something else! This product was too good to be true! Otherwise, this is an okay product with some good features!

Summary: SIZE, WEIGHT AND EASE OF OPERATION AND BEST OF ALL PRICE
Review: After looking and trying several handhelds I found the handheld that was just right. Weight, overall size, ease of operation and best of all the price this unit can not be beat.

Summary: Good product
Review: As a general matter, the pocket pc is a great device and its a lot of fun to use and the Viewsonic machine works fine, though I agree with the previous comments about the misleading memory claims. Viewsonic has revised the way that they advertise the machine, though they claim that the original advertising was not false or misleading

It provides a seemless compliment to my desktop PC and an alternative to lugging home my laptop from work every night.
