Summary: V35 - The Undiscovered Gem
Review: The Viewsonic V35 is the best PDA I've seen in person. It is lighter than the Palm IIIx and much more powerful. I found that it's about the same size as the Handspring Visor Edge in the Palm market, making it easy to carry around. It has much more functional than it's small size conveys. Plus, the metallic looking face is very nice looking (a bit much like a PADD from the Star Trek series).I've had no problems in terms of battery life. It is easily able to handle a 5 hour flight with constant use, surviving long meeting sessions with games running, and coping with a whole day of notetaking in classes or meetings. The screen is easy to read with or without the backlight and is one of the most vivid I've seen, easily viewable from many angles; it even plays videos true to actual colors and motion. Memory is limited to 36.54 MB of RAM as well as an extra 5.2 MB of ROM space that can be used by the user. The Pocket PC also has a Secure Digital slot which has a lot of memory upgrade capacity. The speaker is of good quality for it's small size. In short, I'm very glad I purchased this device. I've found it becoming more useful every day and as more retailers carry this product, it should have a greater selection of accessories making it even more flexible.

Summary: RAM shortage aside, this is the most bang for the buck!
Review: Summery - If you are looking to enter the Pocket PC world, the ViewSonic V35 is the best low cost entry point. It came down to the iPAQ 1910 and the ViewSonic V35 and I went with the ViewSonic. It had all the features I required and you can't bet the price. You will give up some RAM and a shorten battery life to the competition. But to me these where minor tradeoffs for great performance (larger processor), great screen, small size, light weight and it comes with a cradle (the iPAQ 1910 does not). I had the device for over a week and my only complaint how the device fits into the cradle. It's a little shaky and not as good a fit as my old Palm VIIx. You just have to be extra carefully when docking. There is not doubt in my mind that Pocket PC is the way to go. It is much more friendly than Palm and it has the interface and functionality that you are already familiar with your PC.

Summary: Piece of Crap
Review: Granted, I didn't want to spend too much on one of these. I guess I kind of got what I paid for. There is a splotch on the screen that showed up just two months after receiving it. ViewSonic totally ignored me. The battery stinks. The screen freezes so I have to reset the dumb thing. I bought this back in July of 03. I hate it.

Summary: A bargain. Good power and decent price.
Review: I don't know if I could be considered a power user. But this pocket pc more than meets all of my needs. I've got a pretty big collection of contacts and my schedule is updated daily. I've used the pocket versions of excel and word and the note maker. No errors, no conflicts with my desktop. Its pretty smooth. I haven't taken full advantage of the Avant Go SW but from what I've used its pretty cool. To sum it up the main advantages I've noticed from this machine are: 1. Good display. Colors are crisp and you can make it as bright as you want. Mind the bat life though. 2. Easy to use. Its windows. I haven't had to reference the book or help sw more than a couple of times. Its very implicit and comes naturally. 3. Good speed. Turns on fast and programs load quick. 4. Easy as cake to sync. I've had issues syncing palms to desktops bfr. This required very little thought. The complaints I have so far: 1. The batery has to be watched. Using it for a few hours at a time is taxing. 2. Its all plastic. I assumed the front was metal. Not a big deal really. I should have read the description closer. If anyone is assuming the same thing I thought you'd like to know. Really, this is a good little machine for the money. I'm not sure you get as much from the palm m515. Prices change so I don't know what the cost val comparison would be but if you use your palm/poc pc to keep track of names, dates, notes, etc.. then this thing more than meets your needs and its slick too. I get a lot of inquiries. ViewSonic didn't skimp on the design or the quality control. A great entry level choice if this will be your first 'handheld'/palm.

Summary: Thin, Fast and EyeCandy, but no 64mb RAM
Review: I feel that I did get a good price for this pocket pc. The only thing that I am not too happy about is that it doesn't have the 64mb ram they said it would, half is being used by the OS and the other half is whats really available. The quetion that I'd like to ask is what about the 32mb ROM, why couldn't ViewSonic put the OS in ROM. Other than this this Hand Held device is much faster and eye catching then the toshiba e335 that i compared to. The V35's display is really vibrant. Also I've loaded it with tons of PPC software and It hasn't crashed on me yet (knock on wood). I highly Recommend buying a 128mb SD card or higher. But I still feel this is a great PPC.

Summary: Don't buy this
Review: This handheld has never worked properly. The USB connection has never worked well. I used to be able to synchronize to my computer once in a blue moon by holding the handheld down on the cradle and gently moving it until it connected. It has now completely failed to connect -- after less than a year. Also the alarm goes off at random times. For no reason it started beeping at midnight last night and again at 5 AM. I had a Palm for years and have gone back to using it. It was so much more reliable.

Summary: Probably the best choice in 250$ range
Review: Before buying this product I thought a long time to choose between the V35 and HP1910 and finally decided in favor of v35.
I am using it with a 128MB SDCard for additional storage space.
Up to now, I did not have any problems with the device. One of the cons is it does not have many built-in gadgets like wireless (802.11b) or bluetooth, but in this price range those are impossible to find.
I frequently get online help from ViewSonic and so far they answered all my questions in two days time via email. Viewsonic runs a free upgrade program to PocketPC2003 (device comes with PPC2002) at the moment. Ive had a problem with this issue, because of the fact that I am living in Turkey, the online free upgrade program does not support me, but I ve contacted to Viewsonic and they agreed to send me a free upgrade cd if I would give them an address in US. But for US residents I dont think this will create a problem.
The good thing about the PPC2003 upgrade is that with the upgrade, it is said that (Ref: ViewSonic website and "http://www.socketcom.com/pdf/SDIOCompatibilityMatrix.pdf", the onboard SD slot gains SDIO (SD Input/Output) capability. This means, you can purchase a wireless SDIO card and use it to browse web or you can also get a Bluetooth SDIO and connect to devices using Bluetooth, possibilities are endless. As far as I know its strongest rival HP1910 does not have any SDIO and CompactFlash IO capability. I would recommend PDA buyers to be careful about the expansion capabilities of the devices they are thinking to purchase.
The onboard InfraRed port works fine. The TFT screen is well lit and provides comfortable usage. The device is made of metal looking plastic, it may be better if it is made of light metalsuch as aluminum or better titanium. The battery takes more than 4 hours depending on the processor usage.
ActiveSynch connection to PC works well. The portable poweradapter for charging is a good idea, you can take it with you and charge it whenever necessary just like your cell phone. It may be wonderful if an additional portable USB synch cable is provided with the device in addition to the provided cradle. Another wonderful thing would be an additional CF card slot, but I dont think anybody can find both of the slots in a device in the price range.
As a conclusion, with the additional expansion capabilities (SDIO)with the PocketPC2003 upgrade, this may be one of the best choices in this price range. I would also strongly recommend the usage of an additional memory card with the device.

Summary: Worst Possible Customer Service
Review: View screen went bad in just under 2 months of light use. Spend 2 1/2 hours at Compusa trying to get replacement, ended up calling Viewsonic and signing up for their "will ship in 48 hours" replacement program. Had to fax forms to them twice since first form Viewsonic said to fill out was the wrong form. Now 2 weeks later unit has yet to ship. DO NOT BUY FROM VIEWSONIC....

Review: I was skeptic about buying one, did I really need it?
Now that I have it I realize that it is very useful.
It is perfect size. I was looking for a less than 200.00 PPC and this is great: color, memory storage, and programs. I did not like Palms, I think PPC's are better.
After searching the internet there are a lot of freeware programs and it seems that memory storage is not enough but come on, most of applications are games and plugins, not extremely necessary in the PPC, it works fine. Maybe the complains are about Windows but with a few little size plugins you can improve and personalize your PPC without sacrificing a lot of space.
It is a pity that Amazon does not sells this item new ( I would not buy it throug an intermediate ). I DO RECOMMEND VIEWSONIC PPC's. Muy buena PPC para principiantes como yo pues no sabía si comprarme una o no. Por supuesto no la uso explotando todas sus capacidades pero la mayoría tampoco lo hace así que está perfecta si es la primera vez que compras una PPC. Prefiero las PPC que las palms pues ya estoy acostumbrado al ambiente Windows aunque quisiera que se vea más parecido al Windows de las PC's pero puedes bajar mejoras ( plugins ) gratis que no ocupan mucho espacio y mejorar su apariencia, con cuidado porque hay plugins que en lugar de mejorar ocasionan problemas.
La recomiendo aunque al parecer Amazon ya no las vende nuevas pero hay otros modelos aunque más caros pero sí recomiendo Viewsonic. Una PPC como esta es perfecta para agenda, teléfonos, algunos juegos, aplicaciones personales ( recetas, calculadora científica, referencias, etc. ) que hay que bajar pero para todo mundo hay aplicaciones.
Sí vale la pena, más que una agenda sin color y poca memoria que te cueste 50 a 60 dólares.
