Summary: Best yet
Review: Just converted from Palm m505. The Pocket PC OS is excellent, far better than the kludge of Palm OS, Pocket Mirror, and Outlook 2002 that I was using. ActiveSync seems excellent.

The PDA itself is also very good so far, nice screen. Microphone is a little scratchy but the audio through an earphone seems fine.

Summary: Consider the e740, but if you're on a budget....
Review: the e310 can be upgraded. You can't do anything about the 200Mhz processor, but the truth is the new Intel XScale processor on the 740 is crippled by a 100Mhx bus speed. Check the benchmarks and read the reviews, everyone is noting that even though the new processor is supposed to be 2x as fast as the StrongARM found in the e310 and most other Pocket PC 2002 devices, it barely noticable, this is why.

You can upgraded the memory from 32-MB to 64 and you can purchase a Wi-Fi (802.11b) adapter card for the e310, but the price of these two upgrades will set you back a lot, so it may be worth saving for the high end model, if you think you'll outgrow the e310, but don't let the processor be the deciding factor. Also, because compatability issues (mostly with a few games), going with the higher-end model may be a disadvantage, because some software will not be compatable. This will change as more programs are written specificly for the XScale, but as of now, the StrongARM processor is the standard.

I've played with many of these Pocket PC devices, of all the latest ones, I think Toshiba models represent the most outstanding value on the market. The Compaq iPaq's are still considered the high-end consumer grade devices, but truth be told, Compaq has a lot to learn about quality assurance and the iPAQ is bulky compared to this slick and thin design.

Summary: Need some help to make a decision.
Review: I am interested in this baby. Went to store to play with it. Looks very good to me.

Can someone tell me more about the sound recording and playing quality? How about the sound file size / minute? Are there any options to choose sound quality?

I want to store 50 WMA songs on SD card. Also 20 pictures, 5 movies made with MiniDV camcorder. And I want to still have one hour of recording space left. How much memory I need?

I wonder how can I convert 1MB jpg picture into the 320X240 pixel size used by this baby, and how do I convert movies to this size. Does the software which comes with the PDA handles that?

Thanks!

Summary: Excellent product for the money
Review: I had it for a week now and have trouble putting it down. Nobody mentions that it comes with a full version of Outlook 2002, which is [quite a few bucks]alone. When turned off, the screen can be used as a mirror. The case is horrible, you have to buy a better case than the one it comes with. The stylus is flimsy and feels really cheap in your hand. The pocket word and excel function really well. While you are waiting in line, you can compose e-mails and when you sync it, Outlook 2002 automatically sends it. I had no problems with the software. The unit has not locked up on me. It looks and functions more than it cost. I have no regrets and highly recommend

Summary: The Best Pocket PC on the Market
Review: I have used many different pocket PCs. All of them have been too large and too hard to operate. Pocket PCs tend to break frequently, but the Toshiba e310 is an exception. The bright screen, long battery life, and small size all makes the e310 an excellent choice over other pocket PCs and Palm operated devices.

Summary: Very disappointed
Review: If it's not too late, I'm going to try and cancel my order. And I was SO looking forward to this PDA. It's not compatible with NT. Or Windows 95. I had to read that little fact in another reviewer's comments in this forum - I didn't see it anywhere in the technical specs. A call to toshiba support confirms it. So that means I'll either have to buy a new computer to sych it at home or do without synching since I don't imagine I can get my entire firm to change operating systems just because I bought a new PDA. Rats.

Summary: As advertised
Review: I have had the e310 for about a month, a Palm convert. No major complaints so far. Compact size, decent battery life, nice screen. Great price with rebate. Would love to have a CF slot, but for me not worth the ... extra [money]. The directional keypad is pretty (inexpensive), certainly no good for games. I've had very few lockups or crashes and have only run into one compatibility issue with a medical product called PediSuite. Otherwise I have had no problems. Sound quality of mp3's is very good with headphones, although the battery life is a little short for this to be useful for anything but an occasional song to pass time.

Summary: The best pocket PC for your money
Review: Excellent product for the money with the following exceptions:
Battery life too short (frequent charges).
Display of the imported Excel and Word files leaves a lot to be desired.
Excellent customer service from Toshiba. When I got the e310, the cradle was defective and therefore I could not communicate with my PC. Next day, I had a new cradle.
