Rating: Summary: Small, Fast and Sexy Review: This is by far the best looking and thinest Pocket Pc available. I have bene useing it now for a couple weeks and have nothing to complain about. The battery life is ok.The screen is bright and can be read outside durign the day.The only drawback's would be the lack of a CF slot but the SD card slot compensates for that. It is smaller, better looking and just as fast as an IPAQ.
Rating: Summary: A good entry to the general PDA market Review: Toshiba makes its entry to the general market with the e-310 PDA. It is a good entry. I say to the general market because the previous model the E-570 was only a limited release, however the 310 is a nifty little device at a good price. A thin lightweight design and a low price gives it a good start. It comes with a built in voice recorder, 32m ram and a good chunck of useful microsoft software. A one year limited warranty and 90 days free tech support are standard equiptment. The support is 24/7 and in addition to telephone support includes e-mail and chat support, they also have an advanced support group available M-F till 8 p.m. eastern. It is a handy little device, it has one significant advantage over the 570. The hard reset on the 570 involved using the stylis and hitting the power button, on the 310 the hard reset is totally independant of the soft reset, (bottom of the device). Another good thing about this PDA is the Lithium Ion Battery that unlike others doesn't have a "memory" which can decrease the strength of the charge. Little things to remember, The battery button needs to be to the left or the device won't charge, (to the right creates the hard reset) Don't hook up the device until both active sync and outlook 2002 are installed (the quick start card vs the manual is a little unclear here). My favorite use of the device is as an extra internet connection at work, it has a better speaker than my PC and leaves me with one less window to keep open. A good device for the price and a good first offering into the PDA market for the general public. Definately worth a look.
Rating: Summary: Major step forward for Pocket PCs Review: Very nice unit, great screen and compact. Only drawback is that it does not have a Compact Flash slot. This would have been better than a SD slot. Built in 802.11b or at least Bluetooth would have been nice. All said and done, this is one of the best Pocket PCs available today. Makes the Casio, Compaq & HP units look like clunkers !
Rating: Summary: Top Notch Performer at a Bargain Price! Review: I am so pleased with my Toshiba e310. The balance of features and pricing is outstanding! The processor is the same one that you would find on models costing $... and the screen is very clear and bright. The amount of applications is just right and includes the core necessities such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. It does not include lots of extra programs like some of the other models out there, but quite frankly I don't need them anyway. Plus, it is so THIN (as thin as a Palm V) and its a VERY sharp looking PDA with a solid feel! Not to mention, it saved me lots of $$$. I tried both the Compaq and HP - the Toshiba is undoubtedly a top choice in Pocket PCs.
Rating: Summary: Finally......A Pocket PC You Can Love!! Review: As a former Handspring Visor Prism user (and a Palm OS enthusiast), I was a little more than hesitant to switch to a Pocket PC with the inferior Pocket Windows OS. After using the dazzling, new Toshiba E310 Pocket PC for about a week now, however, I have been converted, and will never go back to my clunky Visor Prism. The E310 satisifes all my PDA needs and is lightweight enough to carry in my pocket. Pros: 1) The E310 is very lightweight yet feels sturdy. 2) The E310 has the one of the best color screens I have seen on a PDA. It is very bright and easy to read in any lighting. Where the Visor Prism's screen washes out in daylight making it barely readable, the screen of the E310 is readable in a brightly lit room or outside in the sunlight. 3) Data syncs easily with Outlook 2002 (included on the CD) as well as with Word and Excel. 4) The included MS Reader and Media Player allows me to read books easily and listen to MP3's which I have stored on a 64 mg SD or MMC card (not included). The headphone jack converts the E310 into a very nice MP3 player with excellent sound. (With the Visor Prism, I had to buy a separate Minijam MP3 module which made the Prism heavier and more clumsy looking.) Cons: 1) The E310 utilizes the Pocket PC Windows OS which I still feel is inferior to Palm OS. There is no way to close a program without going to settings. 2) The colors of pictures (jpegs) loaded onto the E310 don't seem as sharp or crisp as those viewed on the Visor Prism. 3) Headphones and SD or MMC cards must be purchased separately and there is no expansion except for 1 SD slot. 4) Wireless possibilities seem limited right now as there is no expansion slot for a wireless modem (Toshiba does have a Bluetooth card, however, that will enable you to wirelessly connect to your cellphone for internet and email access.) On the whole, I was quite impressed with the E310. I love using it and feel it is the best PDA i have owned up to this point. Toshiba has successfully integrated form with function. Although I felt that I would never give up on the Palm OS, I have quickly acclamated to the new OS.
Rating: Summary: Great PDA Review: This PDA has been a faithful friend for over two years. I never thought I would keep a PDA for two years. Technology moves so fast, but this has kept up. It syncs my email & contacts easily so that I can refer to them on the road. It also syncs top news stories from the internet, that is fun. The display is great, easy to read, and has withstood the test of time. And with Pocket PC it is very intuitive and easy to use. The battery keeps its charge for several days. (Which is good because I forget to cradle it sometimes.) The only problem is when you let the battery die completely you have to go through the set up routine. But that hasn't happened to me in over a year now. I might get a new one just because I want wireless internet capability. But they have come out with a SD compatible wireless card. So when I first got this wireless was not an option. Now it is. Great!
Rating: Summary: Love it Review: Truly a great PDA. The smallest one I've ever owned (3rd, of 4 total), and one of the fastest. Pros: -Tiny, light -Blazing fast -Long battery life -Bright screen -Very loud speakers for the size -Can run multiple (6-10) programs without major problems -Expandable through SD slot -Great for reading E-Books, several included on the CD -Sync feature is easy to use, yet allows to get contacts, notes, e-mail, even websites -Sturdy - A high drop (from a shelf in my book-case) did absolutely no damage -Inexpensive, great value cons: -Was hard to find a new unit (bought mine a few months ago, used), Toshiba stopped selling this, for whatever reason -32 MB means you might want to get SD card if you're going to be watching movies, I got a 256mb card, holds an entire movie in great quality, and still holds a bunch of MP3's -Doesn't come with headphones If you buy it, hope you enjoy it as much as I did
Rating: Summary: Great PDA, Battery lasts 11 hours when new. Review: Hi, I felt the need to review this product after reading some recent, poor reviews. If you are having battery problems, you may have gotten a worn-down or a bad battery. I have had the e310 for over 2.5 years now. The battery lasted all this time (lasts for 11 hours of continuous use), and only in the past 2 months it is starting to show signs of wear (only seems to last 7 hours, discharges more quickly, will only charge to 80% until I replug it in and turn the power on with backlight off, then it does charge to 100%). I am planning to do the brave thing and replace it myself for $30 (found LAB503759C Toshiba E310 PDA battery at Laptops for less.com)
For more battery touble shooting, PocketPC Passion has archives of e310 discussion thread that gives very good help for everything. When not using the device, it's a good idea to stop all running programs. I have notices certain programs to be extreme battery hogs. PDA viewer when the file is in SD card and is very large (a map) seems to suck battery like there's no end. To a lesser degree Microsoft Streets & Maps, when a large file is in SD card seems to use more battery than others. All other programs seem to use very little battery. I hope this helps :)
Update - battery test results: My e310 is 2.5 years old and was used everyday. Backlight Medium, constant write/read to SD & main memory, multiple apps running - 5 hours. Backlight Low, constant read/write to SD - 6.5 hours. Backlight off, audio program running - 10 hours. Power off battery drain, 20-25% in 1-2 days after charging to 100%. Fully draining the battery a few times does seem to improve performance. Waiting for new battery on order, will report results after doing surgery to replace my battery.
Rating: Summary: Light weight is the only good quality!! Review: I own this pocket pc for less than two years; it already gives up on me. System freezes, unusable every time it powers up, update the ROM and it still won't work. (It only works when I reset it). I did regret from buying it ever since I got it. It has little memory storage and eats battery like crazy. No second charger where you can take it with you when travel, and no user replaceable battery. In my case I didn't need this replaceable battery thing, because it stops working before the battery life stops. Only good quality about it is its light weight! I didn't want to criticized, but I had enough! People said it has good display, and it looks nice. When it compared next to my co-worker's HP iPAQ, this looks like a peace of junk, then again, I only paid $250.00 for it at that time.
Rating: Summary: - Review: I have been enjoying this item thoroughly. I purchased mine at Costco over a year ago. I have never had trouble with the battery, of any of the sorts mentioned, but I tend to run the backlight at low power since the default is super bright, and uses up the battery faster.
I have found that it only takes a few hours to get a full charge, and that overnight is ideal. One charge lasts me all day at work/school, and I still have more than enough left play music all the way home.
I have the same 128 MB card, but have never had trouble with it except when I was sharing it with my camera. The trouble was caused by the camera, not the PDA.
Crashing and freezing is a symptom of having Microsoft Software on the computer, and is rather typical with many PDA's. Overnight is an excellent time to run data backups, and if you save the backup to your SD card, you can quickly restore from even the worst crashes
One of the best things you can do for this PDA is install a DOS emulator and then in the emulator, install an old version of windows, ie 3.0. Copy an old windows 3.0 compatible Encyclopedia CD to a 512 MB SD card, and you have a fully functional reference system as well as full computer functionality when you use an IR keyboard. I have found it to be perfect for school. It works well enough, that I don't make use of the portability feature of my laptop anymore.
The worst problem I have ever experienced is that with an IR keyboard, it picks up a lot of static from any nearby electronics, including the AC adaptor, and thus far, I have yet to see a keyboard that will work with it which isn't wireless.
