Summary: WOW! SO EASY, MY MINI LAPTOP
Review: Being in Sales, client information is very important to me. With the Jornada 720 I am able to have all my clients history available. With the large LCD color screen and the use of the stylus (use as a mouse)it does not take a computer genious to work with the jornada. I am able to work on a proposal while sitting at the doctors office, then go back to my office sync it with my pc and finish where I left off. It is well worth the price, I love it, can't be without it.

Summary: Check Software Availability Before you buy
Review: Excellent PC, but poor application availability/compatibility.

Eventhough HandHeld PC 2000 (H/PC),PocketPC uses the same core OS (Windows CE) you cannot run application written for PocketPC in H/PC (some managed to run with bit of hacking).

I love the screen size, it's ideal for reading tech-docs and e-books. But Ironically there is no MS Reader or free pdf reader. The pdf reader for H/PC by Ansyr cost around USD80 and not as good as the free one from adobe for PocketPC.

By the way this product is discontinued by HP. So my recommendation is goto user forums and check and see the problems discussed before you buy.

Summary: Great little machine
Review: For me, this has been a great little machine. It has everything I need, including Pocket Access (which you can't get anymore). With a keyboard that works well once you get used to it, a modem, a windows platform, this little pc keeps me functioning while on the road... Much better than a PDA - this is a computer!

Summary: Jornada 720 the perfect PDA!
Review: For more than 3 years, IÕve owned HPC Palmtop PCÕs. My first unit was a 360LX, which was black and white, ran on 2 AA alkalines, offered a 60mhz SH3 CPU (fast for the time) no built in modem or Ethernet ports, and only 8MB of Internal memory. Back when the 360LX was released many people did not use their palmtops to connect to the Internet, and most people did not store music on their computers, so 8MB of Internal RAM was perfect for data purposes. My next Palmtop was the J680, which was a HUGE jump from the 360LX. The J680 offered twice the RAM, a color screen, a built in modem and a CPU twice as fast.

Well a couple weeks ago I purchased a J720 which is also a HUGE leap from my former HPC PDA. The J720 features a 206MHZ ARM RISC CPU, a 51mhz Bus, a much improved CF/PCMCIA slot design, a far superior and less buggy OS, better battery life, a headphone jack, and a whopping 32MB of RAM! With the CF slot, users have the option of adding more memory by installing a CF card, which are cheap these days.

I am very impressed with my new HPC Palmtop. As a student, I need a device to accominidate by bulky battery hogger laptop; well the J720 does it for me! No Palm/PocketPC can fully replace my J720 device. Students need device for fast data entry, and adding an external keyboard to a Palm/PPC would be bulkier to carry around than a HPC.
I recommend HPCÕs to all those in education, wanting a device many times smaller and lighter than a laptop.

Summary: excellent
Review: For those who wish their PDA would do a little more - this is the tool for you. I compared the 720 with a couple of other pda's and by the time I added up all the options for the pda I would need to buy - I paid for this with $$ left over. I've had mine for about a year with no problems and have enjoyed it. The only options I've bought so far were a 512 mb cf card which holds a BUNCH of MP3, an adapter to plug a projector into and last week an adapter to fit onto my cell phone that let's me dial from anywhere using my cell phone minutes.

Summary: An excellent small Mobile Computing
Review: I am a Network Engineer, and I made this purchase for the main purpose of configuring my Cisco equipment which spans through out the US, without carrying around my Laptop, and all its accessories. This little HandHeld does a great job- I can download/Upload IOS easy, I can troubleshoot my network-(Using Cambridge Software)I also do reports and Slide on Word and Powerpoint- It has served me well. I purchase the 1GB Micro drive, and socket LE- CompactFlash I, Lan card- That works very very well. Yes AOL that comes with the system works well- All that was needed , was going to the AOL site and creating a screenname. For anyone on the move - This machine will serve them well- Just remember ITS NOT A DESKTOP, and you'll love it- Syncing with Outlook- Calendar, Contacts, and Email was extremely easy- Even with two different machine- Home/Work. EXCELLENT JOB HP! Look forward to new software-

Summary: Strike Three - Your out!
Review: I am not somebody who is hasty is making large purchases, especially in regards to computers. I have spent the last year researching handheld PCs; reading everything I can get my hands on. In addition, I have talked to numerous computer experts for clarification, input, and advice as to the best product for my money (which I work hard for).

I was excited when I finally decided on a Jornada720. It cost significantly more than I had originally intended, but I was absolutely positive that it was the product that would best suit my needs. Given this, I willingly agreed to the price with the sincere intent to purchase a variety of accessories to maximize its potential.

STRIKE ONE: I received my first Jornada by mail approximately two weeks ago. When I opened up the box, I was impressed that the unit was actually smaller and lighter than I had imagined. I carefully read the instructions and followed them step-by-step only to discover that something was wrong. Immediately, the DC plug indicator light was not functioning as indicated in the manual. I continued on, thinking "It's just a light, it can be fixed." Everything else seemed okay, so I moved on. When I started to work with the ActiveSync software, it became apparent this was no small problem. Repeated pop-up warnings of battery failure were urging me to plug in the Jornada...only it had beem the entire time. So I called HP tech support and explained my problem in detail. Their advice...exchange it for a new one. At this point I was disappointed, but chalked it up to buying a tech device via mail.

I jumped on Amazon.com and filled out the online return form (a cinch). I repackaged the product and made it clear I needed one shipped overnight so I could receive my new one in time to use at work (the intended purpose). I was sure it would not arrive in time, since I hadn't spoke with a live person about the matter. I was wrong...today, less than a week later, my new Jornada arrived. I was impressed.

STRIKE TWO: I opened up the package, being especially careful to save all the packing boxes and materials (just in case). Once again, I followed the directions to the letter, even double-checking because I didn't want a repeat incident. This time the DC indicator light was on...outstanding. My doubts just starting to drift away, I began the next phase(product registration). Nothing...dead...black screen. I tapped the on/off button, still nothing.

STRIKE THREE:

Once again, I found myself calling tech support. As always the 24-7 staff was friendly, but couldn't do much to help...another internal problem in the unit. Their advice...send it back to Amazon.com or let HP fix it. I asked to speak to a supervisor because I feel HP has a responsibility to figure out where the quality control problem is. Not to mention their product had now cost me considerable time, money, and stress. Let's just say I was far from impressed with the customer service...which we as customers pay a lot of money for in the end.

This isn't the first time HP products have not lived up to my expectations or the reviews I have read. For me personally, they just struck out. I will never purchase another HP product as long as I live and I intend to share the experience with my friends and family. This time I will exchange my Jornada for a Compaq with total faith that Amazon.com takes care of customers!

Summary: Once again
Review: I bought my first HP Jornada 720 1 year ago. At the begining it was difficult to get used to the small screen, tiny keyboard.... but once I spent some time working with it it became an amazing tool for my day to day business activity. I have a lap top too but with my Jornada I even leave my laptop in my office. Unfortunately my Jornada was stolen from my car in Miami. One month later I bought once again a new one. As you see I am, at the moment, a happy customer. My only concerns right now with my Jornada: I do not have a clue of how to use my [internet] account plus sometimes I find a little bit slow the sync. process with my laptop..... not everything is perfect.

Summary: worth the effort
Review: I bought this so that I would not have to always carry around my laptop (I travel quite a bit) I use the basic programs (word, exel and email/web primarily) and for these it works well ALTHOUGH getting email/web set up was quite a trial and you can only access it (at least for compuserve and my company's internal system) through terminal mode which is a hassle. The keyboard is small but so am I so while it works for me might not for someone with large hands. Also, unlike my palm VII there is very little available add on software out there yet because the StrongARM processor is still too new and most software works for the other types. Overall though...I do like it and I am happy I bought it...may bot worth quitethis price....
