Rating: Summary: Bad Experience with DELL customer service Review: This post is in reference to the poor handling of my return merchandise call and Dell's inadequate customer service center. I called to cancel an order for a handheld computer on November 16 2004. The individual I spoke with (communication with this person was extremely difficult as their grasp of the English language was feeble at best) stated that returning the item would not be a problem and I would have the funds refunded to my account within 20 days. I called customer care again on November 30 2004 to check on the status of my return only to find that my original request was nowhere to be found. This could be due to the fact that the new person I was talking to not only seemed VERY incompetent, but they had a lesser understanding of the English language. I had to repeat myself several times and use single syllable words just to communicate. After ending that conversation I was finally provided with a case number.(why was no number provided the first time I called?) This magical number was given to me and I was advised of a new timeframe for processing returned merchandise refunds of 30 days. Wow! What an improvement! Upon waiting over 30 days from my original request I phoned customer support on December 21 2004. My call was again sent to the land of illiterates and phonetically challenged customer care representatives where I struggled again to understand and communicate with this individual. I was extremely patient with this person as they explained the history of this account to me again. I was then advised that I could have my refund posted to my credit card within 3-5 business days. I was very happy hearing this, but also very upset that yet another timeframe was given to me for refund. Moral of the story: Don't expect any acceptable level of customer service from Dell.
Rating: Summary: DELL'S CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST Review: I purchased a dell computer on August 5th and it came in on August 11th. It did not work. I contacted Dell and they told me I needed more memory, even though this computer should have had enough memory. They refused to send it to me and I was forced to purchase more memory on my own. The computer still did not work correctly I was hit by Hurricane Charley and was without power for a week, followed in six weeks' time by Hurricanes Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. These hurricanes left me without power and internet connection for a total of almost four weeks. When I finally got to the point where I could deal with this computer again, I contacted Dell to return it. They refused to allow me to return it because I hadn't returned it within their 15-day time period. I explained what happened with the hurricanes and they still refused to grant an exception. I am now stuck with a computer that does not work. Please do not purchase a Dell computer. You will have nothing but headaches.
Rating: Summary: Good System But Horrid Tech support Review: This System is great in the beginning. The battery life is good enough for a few days and you can have a constant use for more than four hours, and that is with the cheapest battery. The operating system is stable and fast compare to other models. I personally have a Palm and an Ipaq; the ipaq iwis the best of all in terms of ease of use, but the dell has nice features. Why I give a two instead of a higher number? Well, after about five weeks of working fine, the Axim stop synchronizing with my computer. I contacted customer service "Tech help" and three days later and after 3 hours everyday on the phone I still can't sync the Axim. I spent three hours on the phone for three days to get tech service and never got anyone qualified to help me. I talked to many people after waiting for hours of a stupid voice giving tips that don't work, after I got someone on the phone they do not know how to solve the problem, I just got shifted to another person that made me wait on hold for eternity. I just think no one knows how this thing works.
If you do not need to sync your Axim this is the hand PC for you. Otherwise you are in for a nasty surprise. Good luck with the Tech's accents ones you get a Tech.
Rating: Summary: A lot of bang for your buck! Review: I bought this pocket pc about a week ago and I am very satisfied with it. It works fast, feels good in my palm, and overall works very well. I'm a tech-geek and let me tell you: I went searching high and low for the perfect ppc before I bought this. Although it is a bit large for a ppc, it feels better in my hand; it is much sturdier and comfortable than the other (smaller) ppc. The display is excellent, and the expansion capabilities are awesome (SD, MMC, and CFII). I have but one complaint about the Dell Axim X5 and that is of the sound. The speaker projects "pretty good" sound from it, but you can't expect much from such a small package; I don't know, maybe I'm just picky :-) Anyway, this is a GREAT pocket pc for those who need it for business, storage, productivity, etc., but if you are looking for a multi-media powerhouse, you MAY want to consider looking into something else, only because the speaker is only par.
Rating: Summary: Buggy Review: The Axim has a bug that even Dell customer support will grudgingly confirm. Sometimes the unit will stay on after you power it off and slowly drain down the battery. After a few times of this, the reserve battery drains as well, and POOF! no more data.happens to me on my Axim. No software fix yet.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Dell Review: To start out, the Dell Axim X 5 is fantastic! 90% of the negative reviews for it have to be from people who shouldn't have gotten a pocket pc in the first place. I ordered my X5 on a Thursday, and received it the following Tuesday with regular ground shipping. After charging it for the required four hours before turning it on, I had it up and running and synced with my desktop without any problems. I've been using it for a week now and am loving it. The display is bright and easy to read, the battery life is everything it's supposed to be and I've been perfectly happy with the included software. I'm actually writing this review on my X5 using pocket word! The touchscreen feels sturdy, yet requires only a gentle tap to make an entry. I find the screen easy to look at, and usually keep the brightness level set at 50%. In direct sunlight the colors on the screen do appear washed out though. I can't say whether or not Dell customer service is any good or not, but then I don't know that I've ever had a good experience with any companies customer service. I was impressed with how quickly I received my ppc, and how quick and easy it was to start working with it. I've run several high-end multimedia programs on it without any hitches, and highly recommend downloading the free divxmvp program for running videos. In CNET's review, they complained about the protector case which comes with it being too large to fit in your pocket. The thing is, it's not made to be put in your pocket while in the case, it's a hip case with a sturdy, removable belt clip that holds my Axim securely and protects it from even moderate bumps, as I'm an engineer who has to do a lot of climbing in and around a lot of equipment. The X5's shape makes it a pleasure to hold, being slightly tapered at the bottom makes it feel more natural in my hand than a unit which is completely squared off. The rubber grips along the sides of the unit makes it feel very secure while holding it. On the downside though, I can say that the X5's navigator button is mushy as others have reported, making it nearly useless for gaming. The sound quality from the single speaker on the face of the unit is only adequate, but what can you expect from a mono speaker? The unit does include a standard 1/4 inch stereo headphone jack which provides excellent sound even with a pair of cheap headphones. The record button on the left side of the Axim is very tiny, and has to be pushed in with the corner of my thumbnail, which is very hard to do, especially while moving or driving. I suppose on the plus side it does make it virtually impossible to accidentally press the record button. I've found it a little difficult to slip the unit into the syncing/charging cradle, the receptacle on the bottom of the unit doesn't quite line up as well as it should with it's male counterpart in the cradle, making me nervous that I could accidentally damage it. The included documentation, while adequate does seem sparse, mostly consisting of warnings about what not to do with the unit. More tips about what could be done with it would have been nice. Overall though, the X5 is a great value for the price, which was $269 including shipping and handling direct from Dell. I wouldn't get rid of it for anything and can't wait to start getting some of the great accessories available for it. I highly recommend this pocket-pc to anyone in search of powerful windows computing in a compact package.
