Rating: Summary: Nice, but only for 6 months Then you have to buy another Review: This is a very nice unit. The screen is clear the memory expandable, the price just right. THE MAJOR DRAWBACKS are that the computer burns out after 6-7 months leaving you high and dry with the company. The secondary battery fails even when you have the unit plugged into the charger erasing all of you files and system memory.
[...] I would go with something that has a reputation for working longer than a goldfishes memory.
Rating: Summary: Best Buy Review: After searching through endless PDA "closeout" models and suffering sticker shock looking at the so-called "new" replacements, I came to the conclusion that the Viewsonic V-36 had and still has the most useable features for the money. The HP models have clearer, easier to read graphics displays but cost far too much. The Sonys are even more overpriced. Look carefully, review the included features and price any accessories you might want (especially with the sonys)and after actually trying each model, you will find that the V-36 is a true "best buy"...
Rating: Summary: Great product and service Review: An excellent PDA, with great features. Built in camera has been very useful. Had a question regarding the eBooks application and sent an email to Viewsonic. Received a useful answer within a few hours ON A SUNDAY NO LESS! Very Impressive customer service. Altogether a great value.
Rating: Summary: A College Student's Best Friend Review: As a college student, I wanted something with the convenience of a laptop but with a pricetag to fit my sad budget . . . when a friend of mine got a Toshiba Pocket PC I thought I'd try to get one too. Amazingly enough, for a lot less than other Pocket PCs the ViewSonic had the same things and more! The ViewSonic V36 has the essentials that I need for basic day to day use away from a desktop: Word, Internet Explorer (with a Wi-Fi card), Windows Media Player, and more. And when I went on the Microsoft Pocket PC website, I was able to download programs that let me create Slide Presentations and more. I bought a keyboard and use it just like a laptop . . . even my friends w/ laptops say that my Pocket PC is more convenient. It's a great buy for the money.
Rating: Summary: Good for first PDA owners, but not if you're upgrading. Review: Based on the rebates and price drops for this product, it was high on my consideration list. That is, until I picked one up.The device is VERY plastic-feeling and flimsy. It does not feel solid at all, unlike the Palm Tungsten models or HP models. Many of the store models were banged up and very scratched. My current Palm has been banging around in my purse for two years and has no big scratches. Also of note, the salesperson told me that a high percentage of them were coming back defective. It also only comes with PocketPC 2002, most of the new applications won't work on this device. The screen is slightly smaller than most PDAs on the market now. It was hard to read in some brighter areas of the store, so I can imagine it would be horrible outside. It has great features for this price range, including the built in camera. But the resolution leaves MUCH to be desired. The sound is so-so on it without the headphones on, you can't put it up high or it sounds muffled. I was not able to test it with headphones on, so I can't tell you much about volume, etc. If this is your first PDA, it's a good starting point. I wouldn't expect it to last more than a year or two of moderate use, it just doesn't seem built solidly enough. Keep in mind, that you do get what you pay for with this model. If you're looking to get a pocketpc for just contact management, go with a lower-end model and save some money. If multimedia is your thing - skip this and get an ipaq or Clie. There are many sales and rebates going on now at different sites. Palm Zire 71 for the multimedia capabilities it offers, has some great rebates. Also, windows is offering many on its PocketPC devices. After all, you want a PDA that you can use effectively, not one you worry about breaking or banging up, right?
Rating: Summary: Best PocketPC for the price Review: Best PocketPC for the price! I researched a LOT of PocketPC's before I buy VeiwSonic V36 and I love it! MP3s, Videos, Voice, Photos, MS Compatibility, Definately the best PocketPC for the price! No problems so far - I am very pleased - I recommend this model to all.
Rating: Summary: cheap looking, questionable quality Review: Bought it on Amazon.com but there was a bad pixel on the screen. Exchanged for another one, still many problems: 1. About 4 out of 5 attempts to synchronize with desktop computer failed; 2. The record button doesn't work; 3. Sometimes cannot turn off or turn on the unit; 4. One leg of the battery cover was broken after a few uses. The design is horrible; Product looks very cheap; the built-in camera takes mediocre pictures. However, the screen is bright and vivid, which seems to the only thing impressed me.
Rating: Summary: Great unit that leaves Palms in the dust Review: Coming from a Palm base (all my employer would buy) I have been crippled for my past 4 PDA's (II, IIIC, M125, and M505) until I asked for this one. The most comparable unit a person will find that is Palm based compared to this will be the Tungsten E but you get a much smaller screen, which does have a little better resolution granted, a 126mhz processor vs. 300mhz for the v36 and half the memory ACK! This unit gets a 4.5 out of 5 because it has had to have a few resets and the sound crackled only on CERTAIN apps, not on music. This makes a Pocket PC user out of me for the long run and shows how much Palm has to catch up. Oh the screen is good, transcriber works well + 3 other input methods, and the leather case is stylin. THIS UNIT IS AWESOME
Rating: Summary: Pocket PC user Review: Don't you love reviews? One guy says he's had problems with his V36. I don't doubt. However, I experienced the same symptoms he described after I loaded software that did not support Pocket PC 2003. Another one says it's too light. Too light? For a Pocket PC? Personally, I think that's impossible. The point is, for the money the V36 is tough to beat. The camera is nice if you need to take a snapshot of a whiteboard or something. Not great. But what you get is a fully functioning, good quality PDA that easily holds it's own for a lot less than the HP's and Tungsten. That's what I was looking for. That is exactly what I got. I'm happy.
Rating: Summary: Its Great Review: Got one, Its great. Good power. Best Bang for the Buck hand down. Just get it and save some money for a storage card you will need. Enought said.
