Rating: Summary: A dream Review: This is a great handheld! I've owned a Palm IIIe, IIIxe, and V, and a Handspring Visor Platinum, and now an Edge. This is by far the best. It has all the memory and speed (33mhz! Not bad for a handheld!) of the Platinum, but it's been squished into a gorgeous case. My only qualm is that the screen cover doesnt flip back. An added bonus: this is the perfect accessory for my Apple Powerbook G4 (made of titanium)-- The colors match perfectly! This is a GREAT product.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for Pockets Review: The Edge solved the one real drawback of the Visor Deluxe: you couldn't carry it in your pocket without looking like a total dweeb. The Edge's size and perfectly designed lid fit nicely into a shirt or jeans pocket without worrying about a case. Probably not the best choice for people who keep Springboard modules in it all the time, since the module holder is kind of clunky, but this isn't a problem since I use only the Backup module and remove it after I'm done. (Don't even think about travelling with a Visor without the Backup module.) I waited a month before writing my review, to see if I would have any of the reliability problems that were reported early on. Maybe the first batch of Edges had some quality problems, but it looks like those were solved before I got mine. I'd highly recommend the Edge to anyone who carries a PDA in their pocket.
Rating: Summary: Great alternative to Palm!! Review: Handspring has been making life tough for Palm of late. Utilizing the same Palm OS, Handspring has continually outdone the competition by offering more for less money. Once again, with the Visor Edge, they have maintained the usual quality and expandability while adding the convenience of rechargable batteries that charge through the USB docking cradle. The sleek design is also a plus. And, since Palm still forces most customers to buy a serial cradle, this is the perfect alternative for Mac users, since the USB cradle is included.
Rating: Summary: Nice to look at, but has problems... Review: I bought my Visor Edge from the Handspring website and all was well until about 3 weeks of use. Like the other reviewers, my Edge completely crashed and would not do anything, even after a "hard reset". The on-off button wouldn't even work! When I called customer service, they told me that these types of 'crashes' sometimes happen. I owned a Palm for two years before 'upgrading' to this Handspring and nothing like this has ever happened. I am a physician who uses my PDA daily for storing reference material and patient data. Needless to say I'm quite disappointed that I have to suffer an inconvenience and wait for 7 business days for a new one to arrive in the mail. In general, it's a nice, sleek PDA but without a whole lot that's new or different from others in its class (the silent alarm's about it, and I'd never use it since you can't see the light blinking very well with the metal lid closed). Until Handspring is willing to address this issue that maybe there is a defect in their new product, I would suggest waiting a month for the Palm M500/505.
Rating: Summary: Was great for two weeks, then crashed and burned. Review: Being a practicing physician, I loved the Visor Edge because it gave me the ability to have loads of drug and treatment information at my fingertips in a really sleek, futuristic design. The added organizer and game play abilities were great as well. I could go on rounds or see patients in the office and simply pull the Edge out of my pocket when needed. Unfortunetely, after two weeks of using it, the system crashed completely. Handspring is sending me a new device but now I'm left without my "all-in-one" organizer/reference device for three to five days AND I will have to reload most of the medical applications when the new one arrives. If it didn't crash, I'd give the Edge five stars, but I'm forced now to give it three. If the new one crashes, I'd downgrade my review to one star. We'll see...
Rating: Summary: Handspring Visor Edge Review: I bought my Edge through the Handspring Website because they weren't available any where else at the time. I've been happy with it, even thought the first one crashed, and they had to send me a new one. They sent the replacement next day air and I haven't had a single problem since. I bought the Edge instead of the Handspring Platinum because the Edge was quite a bit thinner and had an internal rechargeable battery so I didn't have to spend a fortune on AAA batteries. The Palm V is the closest relative to the Edge in the Palm family, but I thought that Handspring had a better product with their Springboard module. I've already purchased the one step back up module which works great when you're away from your computer. In addition, I purchased the InnoPak/2V vibrator along with a Handspring belt type carrying case so that I can wear my Edge and have it vibrate for appointments. I figure that if it's on my belt I'll get that much more utility out of it. The only thing that I don't like about the Edge is that it's a new enough model that I'm not able to get all the accessories for it yet like the Targus foldable keyboard and the travel charger/synch cable.
Rating: Summary: Slick handheld, better than a Palm PDA Review: ...this is the one to get. It is similar to the Palm V competitor, in that is is ultra-light and has a built in rechargeable battery. It's better than the Palm V though: lighter, thinner, has a screen that is protected far better than ANY of the Palm PDAs, the look-up system is quicker, and it has a similar battery to the Palm V (rechargeable) A few drawbacks: if you want to add all sorts of add ons (via the Springboard adapter), you are going to destry the sleekness of this baby. Also, the stylus (pen thingy) can be tough to release at times. I wouldnt consider these major flaws though. Overall, get this PDA. :)
Rating: Summary: Died within 1 week Review: Got my visor edge last week, really enjoyed using until it completely crashed. The handspring folks pronounced it DOA. (Cute!) There was no bringing this baby back to life. Then came the worst customer experience of my life. Handspring customer service was anything but helpful. I was even hung up on by one rep because they did not know how to handle hold. (Beware the Product Support rep hinted that this was a known issue.) After all of this, I have finally decided that Handspring is not worth it.
Rating: Summary: So close, yet so far... Review: I recently sold my visor prism (at a loss!!) in favor of the visor edge. I have been a fan of Handspring for quite sometime, as I feel they are a better company to deal with than Palm and they make a better, more ingenuitive product. About a week after I recieved my edge, I could not have been happier. It was small, quick, just about perfect. I didn't even miss the color of the prism, because I was overwhelmed with the creativity behind the edge. All was going extremely well...until just like "an electronics fan," my touch screen stopped working (it would just pull down the menu...) That really marred my view of the edge. Because I am so enamored with Handspring, and because their customer service department is incredible (they are rushing me a new edge as I write this--before I sent out the old one!) I will stick this defect out as long as possible. However, I realize that most people are not as patient as I am, and thus I would not recommend the edge to anyone who cannot live without an edge for a few days unless they buy it from a brick-and-mortar retailer where they can get a new one right away. To close, I will say that with the exception of this defect, this is the best handheld on the market, and everything when it is new has bugs that need to get worked out.
Rating: Summary: BEST PDA AVAILABLE! Review: This thing has dependability, size, expansion possibilities, memory, speed, and anything else that you'll need in a PDA. I highly recommend this if you are going to invest in a PDA.
