Following is a summary of my experience with the Edge so far:Edge #1: dead on arrival Edge #2: backlight didn't work Edge #3: screws fell out Edge #4: gets hung up when synchronizing date book Enough said.
Rating: Summary: Who cares if you can't upgrade the OS? Review: I am writing this in regards to everyone who is complaining about the fact that you can't upgrade the OS. Lets face it, how many people would actually bother doing that anyway? There is usually almost no change in the new OS (The new Palm OS 4.0 has a silent alarm, that is the only difference). Plus most of us probably won't even keep this thing long enough to care about the new OS. You can buy springboard modules that upgrade but then that takes away the whole selling point over the palm. Don't let the fact that you can't upgrade the OS stop you from buying this Handspring, it is well worth it.
Rating: Summary: Visor Edge- Great Review: I upgraded to the Edge from the Deluxe Visor thanks to a Handspring incentive provided to Visor owners. The performance is relatively the same but the Edge's unique ultrathin style and the self-charging intergrated battery separates the machines in both cost and appearance. Add the Handspring's Springboard (module) concept and you have a winner. Additionally, the dual 110/220v charger is a must for the traveler. I am so pleased with the product and the Handspring company that I have found myself convincing others to purchase the Visor.
Rating: Summary: pretty spunky gadget Review: I purchased my Handspring Edge after having a Sharp handheld (i loved my Sharp but was a bit too bulky and I wanted something more modern). So far I love the Edge, being very modern in its thinness and sleekness. I wish they offered it in more colors. I have heard the horror stories circulate about the organizer freezing, but I have not had that happen fortunately. Downloads are easy and fun to do and the little guy is FAST! The only complaint I have is that the lid doesn't flip all the way back, but the plus side is that it offers more protection. A definate must-have.
Rating: Summary: Fun until it dies and your data is lost Review: My wife has a small business and bought a Visor Edge to replace her Datebook etc. After about a month of entering data and having alot of fun with it, one day the thing simply said 'Fatal Error' and that was it. It could not be reset, and none of the tricks from the HandSpring tech support group worked. All data was lost. I repeat, All data was lost. As a systems person myself, I feel that any device that can simply "fail for no apparent reason" (this is the wording of Handspring, not mine) should not be relied upon by someone in a business environment. I am not trying to flame the Handspring people--they seem nice enough, and the Visor certaily is cute--but I want to add my 2 cents if it may provide an alert to other people whose livelihood may depend on the reliability of such a device. And to be fair, I do not know whether other PDAs have the same problem.
Rating: Summary: An excellent, super lightweight PDA Review: This is an excellent choice of PDA for almost anyone. If you have ever used another Visor or most other PDAs, you will be astonished at how light and small this model is. It is less than half an inch thick and is very light. It is also very fast, has version 3.5H of the Palm OS, and features an excellent cradle that is used for both HotSync and recharging. One charge lasts quite a while, and you can buy a portable recharger to make the battery on this unit not a worry at all. The screen is crisp. The Springboard adapter, though it does add some bulk, is really not that bad as long as you don't use Springboard modules heavily. I would recommend this PDA to anyone in the market for one. It may seem as if it is overpriced, but for most people I think the incredible slimness and other features will make it worth the money. It combines the easy expandibilty of a Visor with a slim, lightweight body. It is also very cool-looking!!
Rating: Summary: Works flawlessly with NT Review: My Edge has been better than I had hoped for. Using Windows NT, I was concerned because the USB port is not usable. The optional serial cradle works without a problem. I synch my Edge with Outlook 2000. A total download takes a few minutes (less than 5) even with the slower serial interface. (By the way, Targus is expected to have a keyboard for the Edge by the end of the year.) Having all activities coordinated through such a small, portable device is a huge help to my job as a project manager. I can be anywhere and still be completely informed even without my PC. If you are using Windows NT, just be sure to get the optional serial cradle. (I would have liked it better if Handspring allowed you to pick serial or USB without having to pay extra for the serial cradle.) Many other PDAs fail to offer a serial connection for Windows NT. The Edge is great!
Rating: Summary: From Palm IIIx to the Edge Review: After a bunch of research, I decided to make my jump to Handspring from Palm. I checked out all the current models and decided on the Sliver Metallic Visor Edge, being used to a Palm IIIx that I definitely loved. The Palm had been losing time and crashing until I figured out that my email hot synching took up too much memory. Anyway, the Visor arrived with its small USB cradle and was easily installed over my Palm desktop. I was able to beam all my extra applications with no trouble. After almost a month I am very pleased with the size and performance of the Edge. It's a very classy looking "second brain". I have no need for color, or expectations of using it with modules, so can recommend the Edge for all who would like a powerful package in a compact case. My only quibble is not being able to change the display intensity--you can put the backlight on, but you can't ease the light on or off the way Palm allowed. In spite of this, I won't miss my Palm when I'm in such good hands with the Edge.
Rating: Summary: Visor Edge Review: Now that Handspring has thinned out the Visor with the Edge, you can't beat it. The Handspring has the full range of modules and the upgraded software that Palm doesn't, and that makes it a better PDA. The very early problems of Handspring have been resolved and this is now the best Palm OS around.
Rating: Summary: Guess what? You can't upgrade the OS. Review: Handspring has a built in problem with all of there handhelds, they put in some cool features, and even offeres it at a resonable price. The main problem stems from the fact that you can't upgrade the OS, you are stuck with what was delivered, and if you would want to upgrade you will have to buy a new handspring that offers the latest.
