Summary: Good but subtly dissapointing...
Review: While handspring is all about how they offer one of the most expandable PDA's on the market, the edge falls a bit short. The overall functionality of this product is excellent. It's easy to use, and small and light. However what dissapoints me just the slightest bit is how there are few acessories compatable with the Edge (due to the shape that differs from the rest of the Visor line). First off, the stylus is of a compleatly differant design than the rest of the Handspring styluses, creating a problem if you need to buy more in a pinch. I have also discovered that many of the availiable accesories that i would find convenient are incompatable with the edge. (specifically the Targus folding keyboard) But don't let that get you down. It is still impressively easy to use with common sense control. It has more storage space that I would probably ever need (8M is alot). Installation of the desktop computer based software is straight forward as well (the familiar windows wizard starts automatically from the CD). Synchronyzing the data between the handheld and your desktop is literally a one button ordeal. However, with the "sleek aluminum case" accesory (adds considerable protection) the handheld does not sit on the cradle as it claims to allow. But the investment in this accessory is worth it, as it adds the strength to resist a sitting-on. Even with the slight downfall of (currently) limited expandability, it is still an increadibly useful tool, to the student, business person, or just plain old busy person.

Summary: Edge over Palm Vx DEFINITLEY
Review: Handspring has come up with something that PALM will have a hard time competing with. It comes with all the standard PALM software plus things like City Time and Fast Lookup. Though it is not able to upgrade to PALM OS 4.0 it is essentially the same, because of the two above programs. People say that it is hard to master the opening of the flip cover and taking out the stylus(which is probably the best stylus on the market) If they think that that is hard then they need to work on their hand-eye coordination, because it is not that hard. I have an EDGE and I can do it fine, so I do not see a problem.

Summary: Got it cheap-as it should be
Review: Got it in Japan forn (price). Very rarely can you find anything cheaper here than in the US. Wonder why? My biggest problem is I expect it to fail soon after reading reviews and experiencing the horrid Handspring website. But frankly, though it is small and slim, the thing looks and feels cheap and fragile. The flimsy aluminum lid and plastic hinge are destined to break. To attach Springboard you remove this flimsy thing and it is no longer slim. THe lid will not fold back out of the way when you open it. If I had to pay the over (...)price some people pay, I'd be very disgusted. SHould have checked the reports of crashes before buying, even at this low price. They must be desperate--losing business?

Summary: Plastic Hinge on Flip lid does not withstand normal wear
Review: I purchased a Visor Edge the 2nd day it was on their web site. Up until 2 months ago I would have rated it 5 stars, however, the spring loaded plastic hinge on the flip lid is now cracking from normal use. Hairline fractures began developing about 2 months ago and have been getting progressively worse. I am now at the point where I am forced to replace the lid for approximately $20(and if you order it from Handspring they force you to pay $8.50 in shipping and handleing.) You may want to take into consideration the replacement cost of this part. One of the advantages of the rechargable battery is to reduce the maintenance cost (Batteries do add up after a while) but if you need to continually replace these covers, it will add up too. Other than the cover problem, the unit is Wonderful!

Summary: Love it
Review: I have had my visor edge for 2 months, and I haven't had any problems with it. It fits in your pocket well, and is light enough that you don't even feel it. I agree that the pictures don't do it justice. Don't be scared by all the reviews that say it crashes, maybe it was an early batch of them or something.

Summary: I really wanted to love it...
Review: After throughly enjoying the use of my Visor Deluxe for 2 years, I dropped it and broke the screen. I decided to upgrade to the Edge because of it's sleek looks. I bought and returned 6 -- countem -- 6 Edges -- each of them hard a hardware problem of some sort. The first 3 I purchased directly from Handspring. #1's backlight didn't work, #2's screen was not installed straight, #3 had a screw hanging out and would not slide into the charger. The next three I purchased locally at CompUSA. #4 would bring up the memo screen anytime a slight pressure was applied near the switch (as if the memo button was pressed), #5 had a sprung flip cover, and although the box was sealed, it had someone's data loaded onto it!, and finally #6's backlight didn't work. Sheesh! I am waving my white flag -- I have been beat!

So now, I have a Visor Pro on order. Wish me luck!

Summary: Waste of time and money
Review: After reviewing several PDA's for potential purchase I eventually chose the visor edge. It's size and expandability seemed to be just what I was looking for. I was excited when I received it and very happy with how fast it charged. This is where the love affair ends. When I turned it on for the first time, much of the type was cut off and could not be read. After an hour on the phone with customer survice, it had to be returned. The next one came quickly but without an infrared port cover. The next replacement's screen was scratched and the stylus was so loose it came off several times. The next two the backlights failed and all information is lost. I am now on my sixth replacement and forced to deal with it because my 30 days has passed for a financial return. It should also be noted that not all programs for this handheld are back-upable on the desk top, so when you lose it, and this visor seems prone to fatal errors, the information is lost forever. Even at the new prices I would seriously consider other options. You may have to pay more but I am sure it will be worth it in the long run. Oh, customer service has replaced every unit, but that's all they will do, and the frustration and aggravation has been worth more than that.

A Very Disappointed Handspring Customer

Summary: Demise of a raving beauy
Review: For all its great looks and features, my metallic blue Visor Edge died a surprisingly sudden death. Worked great for 2 days without any problems syncing with Windows ME, but on just connecting it to a machine running Windows 2000, it announced a fatal exception; no variety of resetting would work. A week after the last rites are over, i am still in mourning. The handspring support claims it has no problems working between different OS's.
So much for a product purchased after two weeks of extensive search on the web for all the reviews and opinions, lurking on all sorts of newsgroups, going through megabytefuls of now worthless discussions...
I forgot to mention that i originally purchased it online on the handspring site but even after 2 full business weeks, they were still checking on my credit history for the free visorphone. For all i know, they might have been working on my family tree for all that time. Anyway, i cancelled my order with them but i liked the edge so much i still went ahead and purchased it. Now i might buy a palm m500 or a sony clie. That is, after i manage to get out of the mourning.

Summary: Very pleasing
Review: The Visor Edge is my 4th Palm os product.
I am very happy with my Edge, it is very beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice.

Summary: Sleek Design
Review: The pictures are an understatement cause this is the coolest looking PDA I have ever seen. Sleek, durable looking design, great with the flip cover and the screen is much more responsive than my old Palm V. In addition, it just feels like a quality machine, even the pen is nice and sturdy, not flimsy and plastic-like. Works on Palm OS which is perfect because I find that to be the most user friendly.
