Rating: Summary: A grand piece of arcitecture Review: Before I bought this PDA, I researched and researched and found this to be the most complelling product for its price. Although after I purchased it, the stylus fell apart and the stylus holder also fell apart, I was lucky enough to be able to fix the stylus holder but the stylus was repaired with a needle that I stuck in between, signaling the need for another stylus. But other than that fault, and a few crashes of the operating system, this PDA was awesome. It has a nice sleek design and works well. The metal cover provides extra protection for the times that you might drop the PDA, on the carpet that is. The only other thing I found wrong with it, was the cradle and Power cord. The PDA had to be connected to the cradle for power and is hard to hold while docked. Anyways, overall this product is great and I would recommend it to anyone who needs to have an organizer that will last them for years.
Rating: Summary: Soft/Hard Reset Machine Review: I have owned my Visor for 15 months. Initially, I loved it and would of recommended it to anyone: Long battery life, slim design, plenty of memory, low price tag. But my opinion has changed. Most importantly, it changed due to its flaky nature with add-on (3rd party) software. The Visor is strictly hit or miss, with much more of the latter. First off, let me say, I use my PDA mainly for business. DocsToGo works like a champ. But almost everything else has caused it to LOCK UP. The initial fix is to do a SOFT RESET. Sometimes that works, but depending on what I was doing, I would lose some work. More often though, the LOCK UP would be catastrophic, and only HARD RESET would do the trick. This basically returns it to factory settings, losing all the data stored within. Pain in the butt, since you need to link up with your computer and re-download everything. For a while I just struggled through it. Then it started happening when I was traveling. Let me tell you, it is VERY FRUSTRATING! On the plus note, the battery life is good. Granted batteries get weaker, but overall they last a while. I used to be able to go 2 weeks without recharging, if I am lucky now about 6 days. If you are looking at entering the PDA market, I would skip this device if you must rely on having your data when you are away from home.
Rating: Summary: Extremely disappointing Review: I have owned the Edge for two years now, and I continue to be disappointed with it as time goes on. The fact that it has been discontinued speaks for itself. This [pricey] unit was marketed as state-of-the-art at its inception, but basically it is a glorified address book. And its exterior design has proved not to be so great - the flip cover is inconvienent, the hard case is not a protection, the springboard module adapter system simply does not work, and the battery has to be recharged every day. With the recent announcement of the re-merger of Palm and Handspring, one wonders whether the entire Handspring line has been one of the most colossal cons of the electronic world.
Rating: Summary: Do not buy this! Review: I enjoyed my Visor Edge for about 8 months and then I began to get "Fatal Exception" errors that could not be fixed by hard or soft resets. The only solution is to let the battery die and recharge it. After researching this problem I found out it is all too common. Therefore I would not reccomend this to anyone looking for a reliable PDA.
Rating: Summary: Visor Edge is a neat little product Review: The Visor Edge gave me the power I needed. It let me set alarms, memos, todo's, and various other things. I like this Handheld because of its creative design, and good interface. It is the ideal PDA for all whom wants to get the most out of life. This PDA was my first PDA and it is a great starting one. Its great for the price. The pros and cons are as follows: Pros: - Creative design, sleek, slim, great. - Microphone - Upgradable Cons: - The expansion slot makes the PDA bulky and you cant have the cover while the expansion slot is in place. - The Stylus broke making it not reconnectable on the PDA and the slot where the stylus tip goes also broke, yet it doesn't make the PDA unusable. I recommend this product if you dont want to pay alot for a color one.
Rating: Summary: They work GREAT!... for about 2 months Review: I bought my first visor edge right when the first came out, about two years ago. I loved the color (I got red), I loved the sleek style, and at the time it was just as fast as anything else out there. I am currently on my NINTH Handspring Visor Edge. They last on average about three months before they die. Most often, it has a fatal error crash that it can't recover from, no matter how many hard resets I do. I don't run any hack software or anything fancy. Just the standard addressbook, calendar, and a couple games. These things should have never been released. They are just plain buggy. After the first two replacements, Handspring wanted to charge me $... for each replacement but so far I've been able to talk them out of it each time. My warantee has run out and I must say, I don't think I've gotten my $... worth of use yet (that was what I payed for it when it first came out). We'll see how long this one lasts. Right now I'm on a record 6 months. I can't recommend this to anybody that wants a reliable PDA.
Rating: Summary: Excellent buy Review: After I graduated from Middle School, my dad bought me this PDA for high school, and it's really coming in handy. I can keep track of my schedule and my assignments so I never miss anything. The ultra-thin design is excellent. Contrary to other reviews, my PDA has never crashed permanently, only when I am testing programs on PocketC, and then I can reset it easily without losing anything. I recommend this PDA to anyone. The only downside is it uses Palm OS version 3.52 instead of version 4. Bottom line: If you're new to PDA's but still want a sleek reliable design with a good amount of space, this is for you.
Rating: Summary: **DIED** Review: The Handspring Visor Edge provided 5 months of wonderful usage until one night when I was riding with some of my friends going to Tulsa I decided to play some games on it, so I take it out and I noticed that it said fatal error, so I thought well no big deal I just perform a soft reset and it will be fine but when I performed a soft reset it would load up and then it said fatal error then I performed another soft reset still nothing worked then I tried a hard reset nothing, nothing would work and what was really bad the power button did not respond so I could not conserve the batteries until I got back from the trip. Well when I got back the batteries must have totally drained down because the screen was blank.
Rating: Summary: Visor Edge Review: Great functional handheld for the price. Performs all the necessary requirements and has plenty of memory for my needs. Thin design is great for portability.
Rating: Summary: Great handheld if you never need service... Review: The handheld is great (5 stars): light, sturdy (except for the lid hinge -- see below), fast, etc. The customer support is terrible (1 star). When my lid hinge broke after a month, Handspring told me the lid wasn't considered part of the product and therefore wasn't covered under the warranty. They then quoted me a price [amount] for a replacement, and when I went to order changed their mind and told me it would be [over twice as much as quoted]. When I complained, they were rude and unhelpful. Give your business to someone else. I will.
