Summary: It's great!
Review: I really love my Visor Deluxe. It's keeping me better organized, and with a few freeware utilities, I'm converting text files of all kinds and reading from it at night. Hot syncs flawlessly from my iMac through the USB port. I don't play games that much, so I don't miss the color screen available on higher end models (kid stuff, right?). It's a great all around tool for managing a busy schedule, procrastination-prevention, and staying on top, at a great price (Mine was a gift, so the price was really right!). I couldn't believe such a great tool could be so easily available.

Summary: Simple, inexpensive, GREAT
Review: I got one for my wife and I am now thinking hard about one for me. EXCELLENT choice for Mac users. USB cradle recoginzed immediately. Software (Palm Desktop) is not the most eye catching but it does the job. Paid [amt] or about [amt] more than an Palm m100. For that I got 8MB of RAM, USB Docking cradle and all the expansion of the springboard. I have had no problem downloading lots of free software - even stuff that was supposed to be Win 9x only. If you are a first time buyer/user of a PDA I recomend the Visor Deluxe. Learn what you are really going to need without investing big $$'s.

Summary: Great Deal
Review: I take my Visor everywhere with me. I can never remember a phone number, but now I dont have to. I link it up with my Outlook calendar, and I never miss an appointment. The only thing lacking here is a color screen, but try finding one anywhere near this price: It cant be done!

Summary: I highly recommend the deluxe
Review: I am an avid developer for the Palm OS. Without a doubt the Handspring line gives you the best bang for the buck. The deluxe is a dated model with a processor that runs at 16mhz, compared to the 33mhz processor in the Neo. The Deluxe is limited to 2bit graphics (b&w) where the Neo has 4bit (16 shades of gray) graphics.

If you are not interested in graphics intensive games, the deluxe is an ideal choice. And you will not miss the increased graphics or speed of the Neo. If you are interested in more than text based games or 2 color games, then you would want the increased speed and graphcis capabilities of the NEO.

The deluxe is an ideal device for the average user. I use my Deluxe as a minimum test system, but it is also my main workhorse for writing, reading ebooks and development. I mainly use my Neo for playing games and as a high end test system.

I would not choose a Sony PDA over the Handspring. They are priced nice, but as a developer I can attest that the Sony units are absolutely horrid. Graphics rendering on the Sony units are horribly slow compared to the Handspring or Palm units.

Even though it is an older model, the Deluxe is fully XP compatible right out of the box and the sync-managment software runs flawlessly under XP.

Summary: non existant customer service
Review: I debated between palm and handspring.....and that has made all of the difference. The customer service is non-existant. No toll free number, very limited hours, I had sveral long waits to speak with a rep who spoke broken english. I was told I would be e-mailed with the XP up-grade...it never came. I had to chase it down and it still doesn't work. Apparrently after 90 days, they don't care you bought a product ....they charge you for tech help. Buy the Palm!!!

Summary: You've Gotta Have One Of These!!!
Review: I've been studying/researching/plotzing for weeks on which PDA would be right for me -- decided on the Handspring Visor Deluxe. Why?

1)The price is right (Less than Palm's entry level)
2)Springboard expandablilty (not available on entry level Palms either)
3) easy to set up and use (even my "technologicaally challenged" hubby can work it)
4) Mac AND PC compatible out of the box (sorry again, Palm).
5) comes in 5 cool colors without buying faceplates (ahem, Palm).
6) 100% Palm compatible (hey, they did something right!)

Have had mine a short time...already have games and 3rd party freeware running! Why did I wait so long????? Throw out your DayRunner.....its soooo 20th century :)

Summary: The Inescapable Choice.
Review: If you're shopping for a handheld you've got a tri-level decision to make.

First, should you get a Pocket PC or a PDA? I wanted broad-based, dependable consumer support at no more than three hundred dollars. Hence, a PDA.

Second, should you go Palm, Handspring, or Sony? Rather than download everything, I wanted to slip in some of the existing modules, currently available only from Handspring.

Third, should you consider a Neo, or even a Pro or an Edge? I did, but there's no accounting for the premium prices. A physician I spoke to says he downloads "ePocrates" into his Deluxe and has yet to use more than four megs of memory, so eight megs is plenty. (Eliminate the Visor Pro.) Moreover, he said he'd rather change batteries than fool around with recharging them. (I agree.) Finally, he suggested these devices do wear out and that it's more likely that you would want to replace it in a couple of years than repair it. (Makes eminent sense.)

Not I that needed any more convincing, but here are a few items I discovered on my own: 1. The inarguably sharper graphics of the Sony Clie are compromised by its slightly smaller screen (the Palms also have a smaller screen); 2. The attractive thinness of the Visor Edge is neutralized by the adaptor it requires to run a Handspring module; 3. Everytime Palm drops its price, Handspring does the same, pricing its model just under the comparable Palm. 4. Young sales clerks are invariably "gadget junkies" infatuated with Sony products, so take their recommendations with a grain of salt.

Finally, if you receive ANY of the above as a gift, you're likely to be satisfied--providing you discover your life requires the organization provided by a PDA and you have have the time and discipline each day to update and consult it.
