Summary: Excellent
Review: This is the 5th Palm OS unit I've owned, beginning with the Pilot 500 by USR back in 1995, and the second Handspring Visor model. I gave my Visor Deluxe to my wife (I selfishly kept the 8mb memory module, but she forgives me.) I have been a power user for some years, and love this model. It is faster than any other I've owned, and the color is great. I was worried at first that the resolution would not be great, however, I find it very readable in my office's high flourescent conditions. It is a little hard to read outside in direct sunlight, but I don't usually use my handheld when I'm at the beach. I'm very happy with this.

Summary: best colored pda so far !
Review: The Handspring Prism so far, had stand out among Palm OS PDA devices I have tried, Palm 505, Sony Clie 710c. Good colored screen visibility in comparison to the Palm 505 - prism being more visible indoors and outdoors. Much more expandable than the Sony Clie (the clie had built in MP3 but goodluck if you can enjoy your games with it)- prism having much bigger application buttons compared to sony Clie which is a big factor in Gaming. With the availability of hundreds of Palm OS Applications makes it a very useful device for office data managment. If there is a downside to this product, it would be its size and price of the springport modules. I like its expandability feature but how i wish they could make the price of the modules reasonable enough and not almost the same price as the VISOR Prism itself. SUPPORT wise - Very good support! The first Prism I bought had problems with the screen image - wavy lines seems to show-up! Called customer support and replaced my prism within a week- no questions asked.

Summary: Best PDA
Review: This devise is really an incredible machine!
Pro:
1. It's so fast
2. The display is way better than the m505's
3. There is so much Software out there for Palm OS
4. The Springboard Expansion slot, you can even upgrade with MultiMedia Cards
Con:
The only thing I have to say here is, that the case's color(Blue) goes off after a while, but because the background color is blue too, you don't see a difference.
If you want to have a great PDA, take this, you will love it!!!

Summary: Very nice PDA, but . . .
Review: Since this is my 1st PalmOS PDA I don't have as much experience as some other reviewers. However I do know what I do & do Not like. My list of Pros & Cons for this fine PDA:

Pros specific to this device:
1. Ability to display 65,000 different colors.
2. You can create notes/ business cards w/ color.
3. You can read and work faster. One thing I've found that's quicker than reading, to ID something, is color. If I label an item in a To-Do list in red for instance, I know w/o reading that its a hot item to do ASAP. This helps one prioritize items. It just makes sense.
4. CPU speed. This units fast. Although the color display DOES make the unit slightly slower than a Visor Pro/Platinum.
5. Color games beat B/W games when in waiting rooms. ;-)
6. Display easier to read indoors than a Palm m505. (Isn't this where 90% of its use will occur anyway?)

Cons specific to this unit:
1. Battery life. Handspring advertises up to 2 wk. between charges. Yea right! Maybe if you only use it for <5 mins. a day. Who do you know that can do Graffiti that fast? I usually get 4-7 days between charges. Or about 5 continous hrs. Which is generally better than a PocketPC but worse than a Palm m505's reflective color display.
2. Bulk. In this respect: Don't expect a carry case made for a Visor to fit unless it says it'll hold a Prism. Unit itself is easier to hold than a PocketPC w/ color.
3. Although better than before, you still can't get color with every PalmOS app thats out there.
4. Display washes out in bright sunlight.

Overall I'd give this unit a 9. It's a great unit but...Slim it down and give it more ram and battery life and I'd give it a "10". - Rob B. 9/2001

Summary: Best screen in the Palm OS
Review: Recently I decided I "needed" (yeah, right, heheh) a PDA with a color screen. I liked the Prism but got talked into the Palm M505, against my better judgement.

I tried the 505 for 3 days and found the screen to be unacceptable, even with the backlight on all the time. My partner, who has an older Palm V, couldn't even tell the screen was in color.

So I took it back and exchanged it for the Visor Prism, which I love. Best screen in the Palm OS world. We're an all-Mac house, so I have to use Palm OS.

I would give the Prism a 10 if it lost a quarter inch or so off its thickness, but what the heck--as I discovered the hard way, function is better than form.

Summary: best color device there is in palm OS
Review: this is hands down the best pda to own right now. reason #1:

it has the best features of everything, all in one
it has the great color screen, even better than some pocket PC screens.
it can use keyboards just like any other palm device,
it may be thicker than the palm, but its MUCH smaller than almost every pocket PC.
the wireless internet for this is inexpensive, the prism stands for itself; Not a jack-of-all-trades, but a master.

Summary: Probably the best color Palm OS device on the market
Review: The Visor Prism may be the best color Palm OS PDA out there at the moment. The 16 bit color display is a joy to use compared to the 8 bit display on the Palm IIIc, and there can be no comparison to the non-color displays.

The processor is fairly speedy, but nothing to write home about. The built in battery holds it's charge fairly well, but don't plan on using the device constantly during long flights on it.

The only drawbacks to this model are minor. The Prism is a fairly bulky device, as thick or thicker than the Palm VII, which may make finding a case for it difficult. It's always a little hard to find a good carrying case for a Visor because the removable expansion port cover makes it hard to affix the velcro pad for securing the device in the case. Finally, the side mounted IR port is a bit of pain to use, especially with Palm users. But really, how often do you beam stuff anyway?

Summary: Excellent display, good flexibility due to the expansion slot. Good value.

Summary: Still My Top Pick
Review: Now that I have had my Prism for a month, I think it has been run through enough use to have a valid review. When making the initial purchase, I had compared all the PDA options, including PocketPC. I still would pick the Prism over the alternatives.

USB is used instead of serial port. It is faster and much easier to set up (basically no setup). This is also good because my serial port is already dedicated to my GPS unit, so I did not want to add a switchbox or keep swapping devices.

The color is nice. The display is much better than other color displays on the market. The 16-bit color is noticeably better than 8-bit color. I use SplashPhoto to display family pictures and they look very nice. Once you use a (good) color PDA, you won't want to go back.

The expansion module will be nice. There aren't as many modules available as I thought, but I plan on getting the next version of wireless modem or phone when it comes out.

The physical size is bigger than the latest ones, but I prefer the better color and rechargeable batteries. It fits comfortably in my hand and is not cumbersome, but is not as eye-catching as the thin ones.

Of the 8M, I am currently using just over half. My important additional applications are Avantgo (currently at 650K, but can be changed), Bejeweled (71K), BigClock (68K), ChessGenius (78K), AppForge Booster (340K), MyBible-NIV (1650K), SplashPhoto (466K, depends on number of photos, about 50K per full-screen photo).

I love this unit and have not had any problems with it. I use it frequently during my work day and it rarely uses more than 20% of its charge. It only takes minutes to recharge once I get home.

Summary: The Prism is the best of the color Palm OS
Review: We sell PDA's where I work, and I have customers who come back all the time to give me feedback on how they like their PDA's. Although I don't own a Prism, I see/use them everyday in demonstrating them to customers. I love the clarity and overall brightness of the Prism. It blows away any other color Palm OS.
I, personally, own a Visor Deluxe. I feel that the Visor is the best PDA for the price.... My favorite feature (albeit small) is the cover. I'm not a big fan of the covers on the Palm 3 series. I like how the Visor's covers can be taken off completely. This also makes it better when buying a case. Because of the unique design, there is no need for any adhesive. It's hard to explain, you'd have to see it...but trust me, it's much easier.
If you want a color Palm OS, get this. Forget about anything else.
