Rating: Summary: A great second brain! Review: The Visor Prism is the most multipurpose device that I have ever owned. Everything imaginable is readily at ones hands. It is a fabulous second brain. Operation is a cinch.
Rating: Summary: Good PDA with some flaws Review: I had a Palm for years and recently switched to the Visor Prism because of positive reviews on the color device. I am a designer and I care about how these units look. All visor including the Visor Edge are no comparison to Palm devices. Palm V is beautiful but I was disappointed by Palm customer support and the high price.Visor Prism does have a screen flickering problem but it goes away in a week. I guess it is either I got used to it or the screen has been "warmed up". The color is great and many software enhancements work better with color. Although I didn't think much of the Springboard idea, it makes upgrade so much easier. It transforms your pda into a new device. I have the digital camera and the Visor phone. All work great. One more thing about the screen is although it is crisp, you can see each pixel. The B&W pda's look sharper than the color ones but it is still impressive and great to look at color.
Rating: Summary: Colorful and fast Review: The Prism was easy to set up and is easy to use. The Springboard expansion port is great. Just plug a device in at any time and it will automatically be installed. The range of colors is beautiful. It is also very fast. The new low price is probably one of the best reasons to get the Prism. The only problem that I have is that sometimes when you look at the Visor Prism, the screen appears to flicker. I have seen this not just on mine, but on others', so I'm sure it was meant to be that way. There is now a fix for that problem, though. Go to the updates section of the Handspring web site and get the contrast adjuster. After that, the screen is perfect. It really doesn't happen very often at all and it quickly goes away and, as you can see by my rating, doesn't make a difference at all to me. Also, it's very large for a Palm, so if that is important to you, do not get the Prism.
Rating: Summary: Fast and pretty Review: The Prism is lighning fast (as far as handhelds go) and it's great having a color display. Of course, the Hanspring expansion slot is always a plus. I really only have one problem with this unit and as you can see by my rating, it's a small problem. The screen always seems as if it is flickering. I looked at a Sony color PDA in the store recently and it was much easier on the eyes. All in all, I've had a great experience with it.
Rating: Summary: Quality Problems and Inconvenient Customer Support Review: (...)since I have owned it, the stilus has continuously slipped out of calibration. What makes it more frustrating is the device often would not recalibrate using the utility. This problem was not only peristent when ocurring, it was also ellusive and unpredictable. Of course, the problem would occur at the least inopportune times (e.g., when trying to capture a critical issue during a meeting). The second issue was the errant RED PIXEL. In all color applications, I had one pixel which was always red! Using the City Time utility, the red pixel was located in Siberia ... no doubt the location of the secret Russian Headquarters for PDA Sabotage! I was able to get Handspring to replace the unit (with a reconditioned unit ... not new one) for a (...) shipping fee. It just fries my patutti to have to pay to get a defective device replaced under warrantee. The inconvenience is bad enough; the charge just rubs salt in the wound. One more thing, beginning 2 January, they will be charging for phone support ... in addition to long distance charges (and long times on HOLD). When my staff, colleagues and clients ask me how I like my Handspring, I'll have to think hard before issuing accolades.
Rating: Summary: Do Yourself A Favor Review: This is a fantastic color PDA that will enable you to organize your life, just don't lose it! I've bought my 3rd Handspring Visor Prism this year alone. It seems my wife has become addicted to her PDA and won't be without one. We first bought the PalmV (a excellent mono-screen) slim silver unit and were very happy until Handsping came out with the Color. Now even though the battery life isn't as long, the Prism is THE PDA to have. I have two now and use the beaming capability between the two. Very Cool! If you want the Palm OS, this is the version I recommend. If you want the windows OS go to the iPac.
Rating: Summary: Best Palm Option Review: There is no other choice, if you want a Palm instead of a Pocket PC. Because: the recent price drop to ...; the bright 65k color screen; the Dragonball 33 mhz processor; usb syncing; and most importantly, springboard module expandability. I currently have a MemPlug in there with a 64mb smart card I took from my camera. That's a total of 72 megs of memory in a Palm device. With springboard capability, you can actually do anything with your visor. I started my handheld experience on the bottom rung, with a Palm m100, but it didn't take me long to realize the vast potential of the PDA world and the need to upgrade to the sweet, sweet beauty of the Prism.
Rating: Summary: Color makes it all the better! Review: I have had the Prism for 3 weeks and LOVE IT! I bought a Targus expandable keyboard for it and use it to take notes in classes. The color is amazing, I don't know why anyone would buy black and white. It syncs up well with my existing software, and so far has worked perfectly. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Best little pda on the market Review: I LOVE IT! I take my prism everywhere with me. It is just the neatest little computer. I have a wireless computer to surf the web while my husband drive's to visit the kids or on long trip's. Not much to see on the interstate highway's so I surf or play games the time flies. The color is worth the price and now that the price has dropped you really couldn't find a better deal. I think I will buy another one just incase or to give to my grandkids. They are in grade school and even they can operate the prism and love using it.
Rating: Summary: Great Palm! Review: Having used a Palm IIIx, and a HP545 for a total of over 2 years, I decided to change to the Prism. I have found this product to be very well made, and excellent in almost every regard. The screen is so much better than the m505. But obviously not as good as the PocketPC active screens (even passive ones). But then again, is a Palm a toy for looking at pictures and playing games, or is it a functional device, to keep your life in order as well as able to have some photos and games. On that note, I do play games and have photos on my Prism, and I can say that the 16-bit screen makes it all the more worthwhile. And when one holds the Prism about 30 cm away, the pixels are not objectionable. Anyway. My main issues with the Prism are threefold: Firstly, only 8 Mb of RAM. They should either upgrade it to 16 Mb (better yet 32 Mb) and have some Flash ROM. Surely it is not that expensive. Secondly, the unit is a bit on the heavy side. It is okay for me, but it seems to quite heavy, compared to a Palm III or m10x. But it feels lighter than a PocketPC (but not much so). And lastly, the very nice finish on the case fades quickly. I have had mine for just under 3 months and already the cobalt blue has worn off around the back bottom area. No so good. Nevertheless, it is an excellent device that is probably one of the most practical PDA on the market.
