Summary: Is a Visor Prism better than a Palm IIIc? You tell me.
Review: I think that the Visor Prism is more better than the Palm IIIc because the Visor Prism is upgadable with a 8MB Springboard Module. I think that ist is more useful because it has more programs such as city time. If you were on a business trip I think that the City Time on the Visor Prism would be useful. I think that the Visor Prism is also better because it has more accesories to it such as a camera, an MP3 player, a wireless modem, and e.t.c. Of course although the Visor Prisms size is larger than the Palm IIIc. When I first used the Visor Prism the battery was running out of power pretty fast although. I think that Handspring lied about the Visor Prisms' battery power. Handspring said that the Visor Prisms' power lasts for 2 week and up to 6 more hours with full charge. When I first used the Visor Prism the battery only lasted for about 6-10 hours. Overall I would give this 4 stars.

Summary: Visor Prisim
Review: I just received the Visor Prisim by Handspring and it is great! This is my first PDA and I was impressed with how easy it is to set up and transfer data to and from my pc with the touch of 1 button. I was amazed at how quick it downloaded all of my Outlook files including addresses, calendars etc. The Sync is flawless and the software allows easy addition of data that easily downloads to the handheld. I use it with the OmniSky Minstrel S wireless modem and that too was a snap to install and use with a lot of cool stuff from Omnisky. The customer service at Omnisky are the best I have seen to date. They are easy to contact and they are very professional and helpful. I was so impressed with the Prisim and Omnisky wireless modem that I ordered the GPS and Eye module. The Eye module is very cool, easy to use and stores both black and white and color photos. It also has a feature for taking multiply timed photos. The photos are not outstanding quality but they are good for snapshots and are easy to attach to e-mail since they are taken in jpeg format. I have not received the GPS module yet but if it works as well as the Prisim, OS Minstrel S and the Eye module, I will be happy. I have to admit that when I did some research and placed the order I was a little skeptical however when everything arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Very cool!

Summary: Fantastic Device
Review: I've had the Prism for a few weeks now and have to say it really is a great device. Combine the thousands of programs you can download off of various sites and you've got yourself a great PDA. My only reason for not giving it a full five stars is that the seprate cover/lid could be better. It protects the Prism perfectly but can be clumbersome when you want to do the quick lookup...However, I read recently there is a third party company out there that is selling attachable flip covers for the Visors to eliminate this minor difficulty. Soooo! that is the exact reason why I went into purchasing the Palm O/S and the Visor specific. You see, being in the Palm family (which dominates roughly 80% of the PDA market) these devises always have solutions right around the corner for "problems" that us users are pointing out. If first party manufactures don't do it then a third party will. As in the seperate cover/lid situation.

Summary: Heading in the right direction.
Review: The Prism is what many have been waiting for in a Palm-based machine: brilliant color, expandibility, rechargable batteries, and mind-boggling speed.

What are the drawbacks? Well, certainly if you are looking to purchace your first PDA this will definately be one to look in to, but more experienced users will quickly be able to identify two chief problems: battery life and tight memory constrictions when using full-color images.

The battery is meant to last 15 days under normal use. If you have been using replacable batteries or a monocrome rechargable unit, this may feel a bit restricting. Plug in a springboard module and you may watch your battery's charge plumet even faster. Under normal conditions, where a person would be plugging their device into a cradle every night, this won't be a problem, but don't forget your charger if you're planning to stay away from home too long.

What will attract many away from the Palm IIIc will likely be the flashy new high-color display. Unfortunately, it should be kept in mind that more colors per pixel means larger files. 8 megabytes will seem awfuly cramped with only one or two photos loaded in. One solution will be the memory expansion unit, but the base problem still remains: the files will be huge. Effective memory management will be a must for any planning on trying to take advantage of the capabilities of the new display.

One further problem, which should not be of too much concern for the time being, is the fact that the ROM in the Prism is mask Rom, not flash. In other words, when system updates come out you won't be able to rewrite the device's ROM. Palm does not at this point seem to be working towards any massive overhauls to their system, so this should not be a worry for a while, but for those looking to use the Prism for years ahead this may be a point to consider.

All in all, the Prism is the first color Palm unit to deliver so much at a cost that puts in within reach of most of the other high-performance models. Still, the drawbacks to the Prism should keep a person from hastily rushing to sell off their IIIc, Vx, or Sony units. This will be a good first-time or replacement device, however, and will be sure to make you the envy of your friends and enemies.

Summary: I love this PDA
Review: I just love this PDA! Right out of the box it was easy to use and has already helped me to organize my life.

I love the color screen and I've added all kinds of accessories to my wish list. I already have one game cartridge that has Tetris and solitare and some other games. I used it in the waiting room at the dentist office and everyone around had to check it out!

The only downside is that the unit is expensive, especially since I bought one for my husband too. The add-ons are also expensive and we each want different ones... he wants the modem and I want the mp3 player.

I would definitely recomend this product!

Summary: Skeptical & Cautiously Optimistic
Review: Like Decemberrain, I had problems with my Prism right out of the box. Charged the battery the recommended interval. Setup routine was as far as I could get -- unit went black every time I removed the stylus from the case. Put it back on the cradle, it powered up on its own, into the setup routine again. At one point, the backlight stayed on with no screen display, and the unit locked up. Repeated soft resets finally restored the Prism to what I hope is normal operation. If it keeps working, I'll gladly keep it. Nice color display, screen very readable. I hope I only need to come back for more purchases, not a replacement Prism!

Summary: The best PDA ever
Review: It's easy to describe: simply the best palm in the world. It can satisfy the most demanding power user and amaze everyone with it's incredible screen.

Summary: Best Palm OS Handheld Ever !!
Review: I sold my Visor Deluxe when this gem came out. It is worth every penny and more. The color makes any application a pleasure. I also bought the Omnisky Wireless Modem and the Good Technology music player. They are outstanding products also. The color screen is so much easier on the eyes. If you are considering buying a PDA, choose the Prism. It shines above any others on the market.

Summary: Hopefully, the replacement will work!
Review: I ordered this as a gift, and wanted to have it all set up and ready to go for Christmas. Since I already have a Visor Deluxe and am thrilled with it, I figured the new Prism would be as top-notch a performer as the Deluxe was, right from the get-go. Unfortunately, the unit I received is defective; no matter what I try, the batteries will not charge. I suspect the cradle is defective on my unit. First, I went to Handspring's website for help, and followed their suggestions, but the unit still would not work. I then contacted Handspring's customer support via e-mail, and they suggested I do a hard reset, which did not remedy the situation, either. Then, I called them direct and spoke with a representative, who reviewed everything with me and was very helpful, but still, the unit would not charge. The rep told me they would promptly send a replacement unit, but could not guarantee me that the Prism they would send would be brand new (said they might send a refurbished unit instead)! That was not acceptable to me, especially when I paid for a brand new unit! So, I called Amazon and they are sending a replacement unit which I hope will work. Amazon has been very helpful in getting me a replacement Prism in time for Christmas!! I am sending the original one back; I guess I was one of the unlucky souls who got a defective unit.

Summary: Throw away your gargantuan laptop
Review: Buy a Handspring Visor Prism and toss your big clunky laptop away. Purchase the OmniSky module, and the fold up keyboard and presto, you've downsized your laptop. What more do you need?
