Summary: Best PDA as of 4/2001
Review: Decent battery life, easy to read (except in direct sunlight) and a fast USB hot sync. What more could you ask for? Well if I were asking I would like a speaker that was a bit louder and an 8MB flash backup capability. I love the springboard slot, my two favorites, the OMNIRemote (control anyone's TV!) and the InnoVision 2/V 2MB flash backup + vibrating alert.

The color capability lets me put all of my wallet "snapshots" into my hand now. This is possible with the number of colors you can display at once (not so on the Palm III/c) and I can easily download maps into the unit for later retrieval when I'm lost.

I also insist on rechargable batteries (I hate replacing batteries) but I did manage to run out of juice when I had several alerts and didn't recharge for 3 weeks.

Love the calculator (its actually useful vis a vis the Palm standard one) and DateBook+ is an improvement as well. Every traveller should have one.

Summary: I move up and boy-quite nice.
Review: I have owned the VDX, the Platinum and now the Prism. I carry 800 plus contacts a full schedule, books, up to date news, photos and other things. I hook mine on my waist, so the size is not really an issue. I would love to have a smaller color Visor, but I will wait untill they build in a number of other features. The springboards are great and Buack up is sweet. I just ordered the eyemodule 2 from here 10 minutes age.

Summary: WOW a My Desk top Comp. now fits in my HAND
Review: I wish I had the time right now to go on forever about how PDA's are going to evolve the world as we know it..( FOR THE BETTER ).. but for those who have never used one, just spend one day with it and you will never want to be apart. No matter who you are "The BIG Cheese at some huge Corp". or just your every day Cyber Mom. Even all those people out there who haven't ever touched a Computer Keyboard because they felt it was to advanced for them to learn can use this Item in just a few minutes (without a personal instructor)I shopped around quit a bit and Visor/Handspring seemed to be the best choice for me.I even made a couple of mistakes by buying a Palm Pilot or two that didn't quit suit my needs. Then I was faced that horrible situation {RETURNING ALL THAT STUFF} not to mention the waste of time and money. With very competative and fair pricing and THE UNLIMITED amount of software (essp. THE FREEWARE). I felt that this THE ONE for me was "THE VISOR PRISM" and I was right I LOVE IT! OH YEA....! I couldn't beleive how many different Accessories & let's add that are avaliable, there are so many it was just mind boggleling. If you want to hear more I would love to chat with you about it so E-MAIL me at Hyteckwanabee@aol.com. Good luck, And may your PDA always be with you.

Summary: I WISH I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT MY FIRST PDA A LONG TIME AGO
Review: I read many reviews on all the PDAs before picking the Visor prism. I picked it mainly because I could find very few people that had anything negative to say.

It is awesome. I work in a sales career where I call on 130 customers in my territory with many appointments, meetings, and to dos everyday. This little miracle had already made by life 100% easier. The calender is super as well as the to do list. You can easily keep track of work & personal stuff in a simple detailed format. I thought it was going to be difficult but I had it mastered in less than 2 hours. I thought the screens on these were so small it would be hard to see BUT its not the color is great and I can see it just fine in ANY lighting condition. I have already given my old franklin planner away since my Prism will do a great job all by itself and NO MORE STICKY NOTES!!! FOR REAL IF YOU ARE HESITANT ON BUYING ONE OF THESE, DON'T BE IT IS AWESOME & EASY. Your really missing out by not having one.

Summary: Another Great Handheld!!
Review: I was a previous PDA owner, having owned a Palm V. I recently decided to get a new PDA, and immediatelly started eyeing handspring. It was a toss-up between the Prism and the Edge...I was skeptical of the genuine benefits of color and the .8" thick PDA. But the thickness doesn't bother me; I've become accustomed to it. As for the color, it is wonderful! I can never go back to using gray/green again! The screen is absolutely gorgeous. My only complaint is that it's really hard to view outside; I wish I could buy an anti-glare screen for it. The expansion capabilities of the Prism, combined with the rechargeable batteries, and the 65,000 colors, make this the best handheld on the market. I would recommend nothing else to my fellow gadget junkies seeking a high-end, next- generation handheld.

Summary: A warning to those using non-english editions of Windows
Review: I purchased a Handspring Visor Prism for my wife two days ago. It's seems like a great little machine and I believe she would have gotten a lot of use out of it except for one thing: the Palm desktop software for Windows crashes during a hotsync!

My wife uses the Russian edition of Windows 98se on her computer. The palm desktop software would consistently crash every time we attempted a hotsync. Her computer has only the bare bones system software and MS office--nothing weird that would interfere with the hotsync like virus software. I spent two hours on the phone with Handspring checking all kinds low-level things in the system (registry, killing everything unessential in the system tray, etc.) to no avail. We then installed the palm desktop on my Dell with the English version of Windows Me. I have all kinds of things running in the background on my system, yet the hotsync worked flawlessly there.

Handspring finally concluded that the Palm desktop software was not debugged for the Russian version of Windows, rendering the Handspring Visor Prism (or any other PDA that uses the Palm Desktop) useless. I returned it to the place of purchase for a refund.

I know that 99.99% of the people who will read this review will not be running the palm desktop on a Russian version of Windows. But for anyone who might: purchase something else. I'll be looking into the Pocket PCs and I hope we can use one of those.

Five stars for the PDA itself, zero stars for the Windows desktop support software, for an average of three stars. I hope they will fix their bugs in a future release. Bummer! :o(

Summary: Visors
Review: (I have a visor deluxe graphite, but I will post it up under all visors, because the comments apply to all of them unless otherwise noted)

I finally decided to get a handheld, so after dropping a few hints, I got a Visor Deluxe for my 15th birthday (OK, OK, I totally walked my dad through the purchase process, but who cares?)

9 days (and based on battery use, over 2 months of normal use) later, here is my review. The Visor is pretty small, I don't know what people saying it was bulky were talking about. It is really easy to use, it took no getting used to, except for the graphiti. That's still a little wierd. It has a backlit screen, but I never figured out how to turn it on, my friend did. You hold down the power button. Hotsyncing couldn't be easier, you press the hotsync button on the cradle or on the visor's screen and it goes. The 2 MB visor will probably be good enough for you if you only download Freeware Apps and use it as an organizer, but if you are like me, you will need the 8MB of the deluxe, platinum, prism and edge. The screen is very clear of most things (digital photo albums can look pretty bad, but I think it is the App and not the Visor) It has been very reliable so far, I have installed nearly every App I could find, and no freezes, even soft ones. The stylus has a built in screwdriver and reset tool.

The downside- The OS is not upgradible, maybe someone will make a springboard module someday, but I doubt it, and it will cost alot and not allow you to use the springboard for anything else, killing it's main selling point over the Palm. And also, I am careful with it so I have put no scratches on it, but I let some people borrow it, and I am seeing some. I am mad now (no, that does not read mad cow, mad now) Screen covers cost about $2, but they take all the un out of even owning one. they are that terrible. If worst comes to worst, you can replace the screen down the road for $50. even if you have to replace it once a year (which you shouldn't, but just for the sake of argument) it is worth it. A screen cover ruins everything. Being the careful user you will be, you shouldn't scratch it too badly too quickly.

Comparing to a Palm- this is Much better than a Palm. My friend has a Palm. I hate it. OK, I don't hate it, but it is a mere shadow of mine. the screen quality of the Visor is much better for moving things such as games, and the buttons on the visor are 10 times easier to push, the difference between winning and losing in many cases. The Springboard port is the final factor that puts the Visor way ahead of the Palm. You can get modems, cameras, more space, GPS, cell phones, voice recording, Games, Mp3 players (tisk tisk, stealing music, eh? Kids these days!) You name it, they got it. (look under springboard modules here at Amazon for things I missed) But one thing that annoys me about the Visor and not about the Palm is the infrared port. The visors is in an Akward location, and the Palm's is not (see pictures) And the Visor does not have an upgradible OS, but that doesn't matter too much, so far they have been little more than a minor update. All in all, definitly buy the Visor.

Choosing the right Visor- REGULAR- This has OS 3.1 and 2MB of ram. this is enough only for people who plan to use it for it's designed purpose. If it's not enough, you can upgrade later via Springboard cards. 4 shades of grey DELUXE-Cool colors (which I opted against to avoid too much attention), 3.1, and 8MB of Ram. 4 shades of grey too. PLATINUM-Faster processor, but it's not necessary. However, if you can cough up the cash, it is worth it, because it displays 16 shades of grey and OS 3.5. EDGE-Just like the Platinum, only much thinner. However, putting on a springboard card makes it about as thick as the regular ones. PRISM-Just like the Platinum, only it is in color. Definitly worth it if you got the cash.

PS-to avoid scratches, DON'T LET PEOPLE BORROW IT!!!!!!! I can't stress that enough. People are stupid. Kids these days!

Summary: Excellent color - a very good PDA - too bulky
Review: This would be a perfect PDA if it was about half as thick, i.e., had a Palm V form factor. Nonetheless, it's faster than other PDAs out there (with the possible exception of the HS Platinum model) and the screen is terrific.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent Replacement policy
Review: (PRISM) Prism is fast. I am running my old Micromoney on this thing and it goes through 3 years of checking account history pretty quickly. Palm Vx takes a century. ActiveSky allows you to play color videos on the Prism. It eliminates the video advantage of Ipaq. Visorphone is available throughout the country and uses GSM which is the standard in Europe and Asia. No other PDA allows for cell phone/PDA configuration. Visorphone can act like a modem and connect to your current ISP(s) to access the internet just like Omnisky. (CONS) Not all Prism screens are created equal, depending on production batch. After I installed the free AlbumToGo and PhotoAlbum, I realized some Prisms have missing colors in their palettes. 3 out of 4 Prisms were not able to render the pictures correctly. 1 Prism screen was very dark. Also some Prisms have dead pixels. Use AlbumToGo to load pictures and examine for dead pixels. If you want an MP3 Player, you have to pay extra. Ipaq plays MP3s out of the box.

I recommend Handspring anyday. I recommend Prism over any PDA in the market. I recommend the Visorphone over carrying a separate Cell phone with hard to see WAP capabilities.

Summary: An interesting products that needs some bugs ironed out
Review: I really wanted to wait before upgrading from Vdx, but since my Vdx was acting strangely and I wanted the VisorPhone, too,....I bit the bullet.

I'm moderately satisfied, but unenthusiastic.

PROS: Bright screen, looks great indoors. Nicer looking than VDX.

CONS Color quality is so-so. Screen is barely readable outside or in any bright light. Huge problem. I knew I would hate the lithium battery. I do.

BUGS --I did my first sync to my home computer to Lotus Organizer. Just as happened when I first bought a VDX, it asked me on installation if I wanted to keep my Lotus conduits. I said yes. It overwrote them all anyway, necessitating a reinstall of Easy Sync. Not such a big deal, but annoying. --MORE dangerous: NONE of my Notepad entries sync'd and they were all wiped out. (Yes, I had them backed up. Wonder how many people won't?) Most of my calendar entries were wiped out, too. Not to mention a couple of hundred address book entries when my data was "restored" from backup folders.

Yikes.

MORE BUGS, but not nec Handspring's fault: I love JOT, one of the most useful add-on programs. It does cause some conflicts with programs that required pen input to perform a function like BDICTY (translation) and AVANTGO (when using form submissions).

With the upgrade to Visor PRISM though, the conflicts were more frequent. City Date/Time, Albums to Go, EyeModule and most anything that had graphical features caused fatal errors. I had to do two hard resets in the first 6 hours before I figured out that JOT was causing the problems. (And thank god for the backup modules....)

CONCLUSION On the whole, my biggest complaint is the visibility of the screen outdoors. I think the cons outweigh the advantages here. I had to buy. If I didn't, I would note that is only a modest upgrade for a far higher price from VDX. I would have preferred to wait. If you can...see what's better next year! If you can't, it's a reasonably good product that is, however, overhyped.
