Review: i bought this last christmas and it is wonderful, high resolution graphics, digital camera add on, powerful processor,
great organizing features, why pay [$$$] more for a palm brand
...i think sont will be taking over the palm market soon.
MY ONLY GRIPES: NO INTEGRATED MP3 PLAYER.

Summary: Nice color, but keep charging your battery!
Review: The Sony SJ30 is very easy to see with the backlight on, and makes playing games a lot of fun. I actually purchased this one over another brand because of the rechargeable battery. Great, the battery is rechargeable, but you really need to remember to plug it in or you will lose your programs and any other stored information (addresses, etc). Back it up often. The battery life will even run out if it's off most of the time.

One other downside is that this PDA does not come with a hotsync cradle. While the cable is convenient for travel, it's annoying to have to crawl around on the floor to plug it in to the USB port and electrical outlet every time.

Accessories in general are pretty easy to find (just do a search on Amazon.com), and you can find some generics floating around (like the hotsync cradle and the thumbboard), but there's still no reasonably-priced GPS plugin available in the US.

Summary: Great but be careful
Review: I have to agree this is a great PDA. Great screen even in daylight. Good battery life. Easy to use software. Be warned however, it does not take much abuse. I had a palm for 4 years with no problems. In less than 4 months the screen is cracked on the SJ30 under the same use (I store it in a body glove padded case). Sony is pretty much off the back when it comes to support. I certainly didn't expect a free warranty replacement, but they want $... to fix the screen. Gethightech.com offers similar replacement Clie screens (but not for the SJ30) for around $.... I was 100% behind this device until this. I wish I had bought the more durable palm.

Summary: A Very Useful Productivity Tool
Review: The SJ-30 is an outstanding Palm-based PDA once it is customized to use its many features. The memory stick card is a must if you plan to add pictures or large text files. My card is already almost full with e-books, dictionaries, an encyclopedia and a few games. It is important to change to high resolution from the default setup. Also, remember to install the included programs on the disk. Documents to Go is a program that allows you to read and edit Word and Excel files. MobiPocket is a great e-book reader, and thousands of free e-books can be downloaded for it from the Blackmask website. When you encounter a word that you don't know, just highlight it with the pen, click "definition" and it will link the word to the included Thesaurus. Or you can buy the Oxford English Dictionary for more complete definitions. (I use this feature all the time. A great vocabulary builder!) You can also add newspapers like the New York Times and Financial Times for free. (No more ink stained fingers!) I thought about buying the sync cradle, but then I found a useful utililty from a German website called IrCOMM2K which allowed me to sync my Clie wirelessly through the infrared port on my Thinkpad. Now I just use the included sync cable to recharge the battery. Also, if you use the wireless sync, remember to turn off the backlight to save power. I also installed Pylon Pro which syncs my PDA with Lotus Notes. Now I have almost everything on my Clie that I would have on a notebook computer. My only complaint is that the 33Mhz processor is slow for a demanding user like me. Loading programs can take some time. Speed up the processor a bit and this PDA would get five stars.

Summary: Outstanding value and easy to use
Review: Sony SJ30 is my first PDA. I have owned it less than 1 month and am now totally dependent on the date book and address book. The color is excellent and the back lighting makes the screen really standout. My only regret is that a cradle did not come in the package. It would be handy to have but not a must. The Sony tech support is the best. They have answered my questions as a new user and reinforced the pleasure of owning the SJ30.

Summary: Compact, great screen and lots of power
Review: Bought this Sony SJ30 for my wife and I'm ready to replace my Palm IIIx, which I thought was pretty good when I bought it. Synchronizes with XP-Pro and setup was a breeze once an older palm sync-software was uninstalled. (however, definitely uninstall old versions of synchronization software for palm devices first like it states in the instructions!) Running the USB connection through a port that also handles USB2. The SJ30 has the clearest picture, easy to use and the extra memory stick allows her to select imortant work data and programs without a hitch. One minor goofy thing is the supplied adapter for the power and the USB connectors. The cradle should have come with the device. The battery charge lasts several days with heavy use including many sync-jobs between computers. Its a great size, the jog and scoll functions are superb and make navigating much easier and faster. Highly recommend it for the average business user.

Summary: Good PDA for mid-range price
Review: The color, hi-res screen is really nice, and the PDA seems to do everything I've expected of it. I found an iConcepts hard case that is coming in the mail soon, and I am using the Sony screen protector, which is decent, though not great.

This is my first PDA, I'm happy with it.

Summary: So close to perfect
Review: I owned a US Robotics Palm Pilot Professional for 5 years. Then I upgraded to a Palm Vx this November. Then I started looking for software and I knew that I had to get the SJ30 for the hi-res and the color.

So after 5 years with the Pro, I owned a Vx for 2 weeks. ;)

Anyway, this thing kicks buttocks in so many ways. My favorite application on it is the MobiPocket Reader. I've read about 6 books on this since Dec 24! This thing's resolution is so high for the screen, that the text on it is eminently readable. I would say that it's equivalent to what you'd see in MS Word in a 19" monitor at 10 pt!

This thing's power compared to the Vx and Pro is like the difference from a Pong machine and the Commodore 64. Arcade games are a reality on this thing, folks. Nothing like a game of F1 Sprint, Joust, or Pacman while you're waiting for your wife to get out of the store dressing room.

It's 2 main drawbacks are it's lack of high quality sound (all you get are beeps and bloops), and the lack of a cradle in the package.

However, these 2 weaknesses are excusable since:
1. I don't plan to use it for MP3 playback
2. This helped keep the price down...

Summary: Good enough for me...
Review: I've had 3 Palm III series, and a Visor Deluxe. SJ30 is my first color PDA and it's well worth the price (which is relatively affordable). The best thing about SJ30 is its size. I prefer its shorter (a bit thinker) size - it fits in pockets better than thinner but longer dimension of most other PDAs.

Summary: BE CAREFUL
Review: if you own a palm pda and want to transfer all your programs and files to the sony clie be careful. unless you are a computer geek which i am not, while the programs do transfer some are not quite compatible with the sony and when you access some of the programs in sony you will get a fatal error. sony's answer is to delete these programs and there might be some you really want. dont know if it is worth it. the sony would be a great first pda if you want to transfer only the date book and address book.
