Rating: Summary: Just Do It Review: Contemplating getting rid of that paper calendar and wanting to become tech committed? Buy the Visor. The only way to give up the paper is to just do it. The downside, if you're using a Windows networked system like Outlook you'll have to buy additional software. Once up and running you'll never be out of touch with your office and scheduling and communication is easy. You'll have lots of reasons to become more technology savvy as the colors, and add-ons will make you want to learn more!
Rating: Summary: If you never thought you'd give up your planner... Review: If you're looking at the pictures of the Visor Deluxe and thinking it's cool and a great deal...buy it. You're right!I was not someone who purchased the Visor Deluxe so that I could run a variety of complicated computer programs...I simply wanted something that would replace my paper planner system. The problem was that for years I was a very right-brained planner user. I had cartoons on the pages for every day, wrote all of my appointments in different colors, and put stickers on the calendar for major events. I thought I'd never get used to using a computerized organizer. This sharp-looking blue Handspring Visor has completely changed my opinion. The format of the Visor is so easy that it takes only minutes to learn how to navigate the different screens and functions. Graffiti writing, which to some sounds terribly complicated and intimidating, is easy and logical on this organizer. And the added bonus is that with all of the memory on the Visor Deluxe, there is plenty of space for add-ons and functionality which make it far more useful than a paper system. Take the plunge. It's worth it!
Rating: Summary: You'll find a million uses for it Review: As a software developer, I've been watching the evolution of the pocket devices for some time, and, after watching Microsoft's awful CE devices flounder and stumble, I broke down and bought a Visor Deluxe. I am SO sorry that I didn't do this sooner. The Visor Deluxe does what a device this size is supposed to do, make your life easier. The applications that are included are minimal, but very useful, and there is a very large number of applications available commercially and as shareware or freeware. Plus, for all you programmers, the programming model is simple, and quite a lot of fun to write code with, as you can get a major IDE for the Palm (Metrowerk's CodeWarrior for Palm), or use GNU C++ based tools. You'll find a MILLION things you want to do with this thing, trust me. The only gripe I have is the proprietary Springboard module setup, rather than the more common Compact Flash arrangement. However, I can foresee some sort of means around this to arrive in the near future. Personally, I bought another 8MB for programming room (giving me 16Mb total), and feel that this is just an enormous amount of space for any applications that I might want to write. Go ahead and pick one of these things up. Low price, great functionality, and lots of expandability...plus it comes in COLORS. :)
Rating: Summary: Part of my everyday life!! Review: When I lost my Sharp hand held organizer, I had to replace it with another organizer. So my decision was to purchase a Palm type of organizer. When all my Palm stocks went down, I was very upset! Someone at work had a Visor, so I looked into it. The Visor Deluxe offers more features then the Palm (for the same price) that it's a no brainer!! Memory upgrade availability, expandibility, built in microphone, available in different colors, it's lighter, Mac compatible out of the box (even though I haven't used Macs in years!) and other features! The great thing is that it's designed by the original creators of Palm!! I remember the day I purchased it, I had to travel to 5 different Staples stores, because everyone ran out. I ended up buying it out of town about an hour away. Just like everyone else in the Silicon Valley, the Visor is now part of my everyday life. What I like about the Visor is that it is very simple to use, and accessories are easy to find! I have purchased the Handspring Stylus Rainbow pack (5 pens), the Handspring slim leather case and or course, Tiger Wood's Golf by EA. This is one of the best investments that I've ever made!
Rating: Summary: This one is ready for the future! Review: I have quite some experience with the use of mobile phones andPDAs. For example, until recently, I had an Ericsson MC16 (based onWindows CE). In practice, I actually did not use much more of it than the agenda, although I could use it for word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing and so forth. I just noticed I didn't need those functionalities that much and if I wanted them, the user friendliness and performance were below my needs. As such, it was too big, cumbersome and slow for me. Last summer I bought a Palm V for my wife. She really enjoys it and I got to see all the benefits of the Palm-concept. For example, it's so small you just always have it with you. That means killing time waiting somewhere for something can become much more fun and productive: you can continue playing a game or do something more business oriented like reading some notes before a meeting. When I thought it was time for me to get me a new device, I found out about the Handspring Visor. I also considered the new PocketPC devices like the HP Jornada and the Casio Cassiopeia. First of all, these devices are a lot bigger. Second, they are more expensive. Third, they have a lot of features (color, video, audio) but before you buy such a device, you don't know whether or not you'll actually use it as an MP3 player, for example. So you end up with a device that has too much functionality that you didn't want after all (but did pay for). Plus, if you wanted the device to have new features later on, you would probably only have the option to buy the newer version of it and thus shorten the economic lifetime of the device to perhaps just a year. The great benefit of the Visor is that you have this all under control. A lot of springboard modules are or will be available. If you are an early adapter, you'll buy yourself the MP3 player, the GPS system, or a camera. If you are not so sure, you will just wait and see how people around you actually use it before you purchase a springboard module. I myself am interested in really mobile Internet, so not just off-line web browsing when I am on the move (like with avantgo). Therefore, I already downloaded and tested three WAP browsers on my visor. I get online using the IR port to my mobile phone. Today, this is still a bit cumbersome: I cannot walk around doing this (the devices have to keep in line all the time). But soon there will be Bluetooth enabled mobile phones, so if I buy the Bluetooth springboard module I can browse the web leaving my mobile in my pocket, suitcase or on the table. The Visor gives me this opportunity, which none of the other PDAs in the market can. So even though most springboard modules are not yet available, I do not have to worry getting rid of my PDA for a long time. So, besides the fact that the device is a lot cheaper than most other PDAs, I predict it will also last longer. Summarizing my review... Plus: * Looks cool * Good performance * A lot of memory * Better standard calculator than Palm * Buttons can be redefined to any program * The versatility using springboard modules * The nice minimalistic plastic cover can be put on the back side when using the Visor. It gives good protection and does not get lost. Minus: * Batteries do not recharge and drain quite fast * Thicker and heavier than the Palm V * Does not have all necessary software on board to start making use of IR with other devices...
Rating: Summary: A redundant fragment of praise! Review: This device has got to be among the great revolutions if the world. "Yet another handheld device" might be most people's first reaction to this, but it is anything but. For the same price as a Palm IIIxe you get all its functionality, AND MORE! Handspring has that additional slot for adding springboard modules. What is a springboard module you ask? Basically anything you want it to be. Currently you can attach a modem, extra memory, an IR emitter which makes your handspring into a universal remote and a small module to designed to make the handspring act like a wirless device (like the Palm VII. That's right, you pay for a palm IIIxe but can effectively get the functionality of a palm VII among a whole bunch of other things. The only thing that I know I will proably regret is having bought this device too soon. I am sure in a years time, one will be able to purchase a color handspring, and that too at the same cost if not lower. Oh and let praise amazon too, for their extreme fast shipping of the handsrping. and the fact they have not abuse their position as exclusive online retailer of handsrping stuff.
Rating: Summary: Buy one or more at this price! Review: Excellent Palm based OS. Comes all ready for you to use, including batteries. If you want the best value for your money, buy one of these. Usability is good. Screen is decent. Size is ok. If you need something classier/smaller and more expensive, the Palm Vx is the nearest competition at a much higher cost. You can get all sorts of programs for it at palmgear and I haven't even filled up 4 Mbytes yet. Looks cool, works well, and price is good. Existing software bundle is excellent: comes with datebook+ and a 4 time zone clock. Modules make it expandable. My only sorrow is that I got mine in their first stages and it comes with a black plastic stylus. The new packaged ones come with a nice stylus that matches your visor color. Funky and Fresh.
Rating: Summary: Todd Review: I've had my Visor for about 2 weeks now and just love it. Every day I find a new shareware application or game to keep my interest. The number of programs available for the Palm OS is astounding, and the good Springboard modules are starting to materialize. I picked up the 8 Meg expansion board and don't know what I'm going to do with all the extra room - maybe upload a few hundred books just because I can. In the morning, I do a quick hot sync and am out the door for a cup of coffee. There, I can turn on my Visor and read the news (AvantGo), check my stocks, and handle all my email tasks. When at home, I can use the Visor to control my TV/Stereo components(Omni Remote), and soon it will serve as a great MP3 player (InnoGear). When I take my next road trip, just pop in the GPS board and there's no worries about getting lost or reading a map. It's functional, it's efficient and it can also be a great toy as well. The possibilities seem endless.
Rating: Summary: Great Tool for Medical Professionals on the Go Review: As a paramedic, I appreciate the huge amount of information that I can store on my Visor Deluxe. It is like having a portable medical reference library in my pocket. There are many very good freeware or shareware medical programs written for the Palm Platform. A great investment... one that will enhance my practice.
Rating: Summary: ?????????????? Review: ok, looks really really good. now, how would you use the visor as an mp3 player. i don't see any Springboard cards that would allow one to do such a thing. anybody want to help me out with that? is there one coming soon?
