Summary: Cool but could improve on quality
Review: I recently bought a blue Visor Deluxe for my wife (she liked the color and was tired of waiting for the Palm Vx to come in stock). As a long time Palm III user, I too was swayed by the expansion port and the lower price and even thought about switching myself. Now that I've seen it though, I'm holding out for the Palm Vx. It works great and my wife loves it but I find a noticeable quality difference between the Palm and Handspring products. The Visor's case is a bit rickety, it's awkward to put in its cradle, and the writing surface feels scratchy and has a weird "give" that bugs me. If you've never used a Palm (like my wife) the Visor is a good bet for expansion and economic reasons. But for those used to the sleek Palm feel you may be disappointed.

Summary: my first...
Review: i ordered this visor deluxe from amazon(though not directly as they do not ship electronics overseas) since this is the first time for me to own a pda I was quite excited to open it up and try it out. here are my observations:

color: i chose the ice color as i wanted it to be a different color from my mobile phone. however, this color makes it look like its made of soft plastic. for other colors, this would confuse the visor for a game boy.

feel: i was expecting the visor to be a lot bigger and was quite surprised that i fit in the palm of my hand. it seems to be a little heavy to put in your shirt pocket but it fits well in the front pants pocket.

durability: the visor does not have the sturdiness look of a mobile phone or an electronic organizer(especially if you were to get one of the colored ones) I don't want to test its breakability as it does seem it will crack if I drop it.

f and b(features and benefits)

stylus: my friend who owns a palm pilot tried it out and he says the stylus has a better feel on the screen.

cradle: unfortunately, my pc does not have a usb slot to be able to use the cradle. it indicated in the manual that If I required a serial cradle, it didn't come with it and i could just purchase it at handspring.com. i would have expected at least a choice on which to buy. i thus, at this moment, have no way of testing the cradle and loading other programs. this seems to be the downside of the cradle connection and leaves me with 2 choices. either buy another cradle or bring in my pc and have a usb slot attached.

features: it has a lot more programs than an organizer. What impressed me was the memo pad as i have a tendency to take down notes and ideas when i am reading but i misplace my notes frequently. the visor gives you three choices on how to write. the first is the grafitti which took me a while to master. the letters and the numbers were explained how to do but the other characters such as punctuation were not. the 2nd was the punching in of characters using an onboard screen keyboard. the last was a separate keyboard which is a separate purchase. i also like the address book feature where you can segregate contacts according to personal, business, etc. theres a to do list, calculator, datebook(two of them, wonder why) expense list, etc. all in all a complete package. my only complaint seem to be the registration of my time zone. the only asian countries on the list are japan and hongkong which i find kind of silly since they should have at least either put all the countries or put in a function that allows you to type in your home base. the 8mb capacity makes a better buy as you never know when you will need more space.

all in all, it is a must have gadget.

Summary: Could not live with out it.
Review: I had this visor deluxe for a week now and I am crazy about it. What a great product. If you don't mind to do with out all the glitz and glamor of a colored screen and just can't bring yourself to pay the higher price of other palms or WindowCE this is the plam you should go for. The price is affordable and it is an outstanding piece. It holds all the addresses, my dated appt, and to do list, and it downloads a whole lot of channels form AdvantGo.com (A free service I might add) for me to catch up on all my local and national news, stock quotes, stock news, tech. news, PDA news, computer news, Few daily jokes, two or three games to keep my mind a going around break time at work or get stuck some where like a doctor office and get bored. I just whip out my visor and read all my updated news and play a few games. I always have my address book with me when I need it. Just a tap with the stylus and I am there, or I can check my date book. Just a tap with the stylus. No lugging around a folder or notebook to keep information in. All this on one little 8mb Handspring Visor Deluxe. The battery life is sensational. I like the two AAA battery idea. It has a little battery measure at the top of the main screen to let me know if it is alive or when I need to get some new batteries. I never like charging batteries cause I never know when I am over charging and my life is so busy either I am over charging or didn't charge it enough. Compare my friends WindowCE which dies out during the day, my little Visor keeps on ticking. You can't go wrong buying this baby. It is very simple to set up. I was up and going in a few minutes. You can use the stylus or the onscreen keyboard. At this price you can't go wrong. However, They only send you a USB cradle, and I have no USB connection on my computer so I did have to put out the money for a serial cradle. Despite that, it was still worth it.

Summary: Should I buy a Palm Pilot or a Visor Deluxe?
Review: Recently, I've been thinking about getting something to help me keep track of all the names, telephone numbers, email addresses of all of my personal and business contacts. I also needed something to help me keep track of important dates and events. (Basically, I needed something to organize my life.) When I took a quick look at the market, I realized that there are many many available choices. In fact, there were so many that I was initially confused by all the options.

I ended up asking my friends for advice and here's what they told me (not verbatim): Palm Pilots ROCK! Don't even think about buying one of those pocket PCs because they eat up batteries like crazy.

After that helpful discussion, I decided to get a Palm Vx. It looked pretty and had enough memory for anything I wanted to do. So, I drifted over to Amazon.com and started adding a Palm Vx to my shopping cart when I noticed that there was an alternative to Palm Pilots.

Handspring. They're made by the people who developed Palm Pilots and they're based on the Palm III series. The reason why I stopped myself from buying the Palm Vx and took the time to look at Handspring was because of the rave reviews they've been getting.

In short, the Handspring Visor Deluxe is faster and has the same amount of memory as a Palm Vx (8 MB). It is also about $150 cheaper. In comparison to a Palm V, the Handspring Visor Deluxe is faster and has 4 times more memory for the same price. Since the Visor uses a tweaked version of the Palm OS, it is still compatible with all those programs you want on a Palm Pilot. What really changed my mind and moved me to buy the Visor Deluxe instead of a Palm Vx was the expansion port for Springboard modules.

What's a Springboard module? Well, they're these cool gadgets that you plug into the back of your Visor (similar to putting a Gameboy cartridge into a Gameboy). They barely increase the dimensions of a Visor at all (unlike the add-ons for Palm Pilots). I ended up buying the eyemodule Springboard module with my Visor Deluxe. IT IS SOOOO COOL! I can take pictures with my Visor (which is great for candids).

Anyway, the bottom line is, unless you're dying for the sleek look of a Palm Vx, get a Handspring. The Visor Deluxe is faster and has better options for a similarly priced Palm Pilot.

Summary: If you think you might want one--get it!!
Review: I've had my Visor Deluxe for only a couple of days, and It's already a vital part of how I keep my life organized. The graffiti writing was very easy to learn, there are only a few of the symbols that I am still trying to memorize. I tend to switch between graffiti writing and the keyboard, depending on how much writing. The HotSync and the Palm software was easy to load on to my Mac, and hotsyncing the information between Visor and Mac is a breeze.

I started looking at the Handspring Visor Deluxe when I realized it was next to impossible to find a Palm IIIx or IIIxe in stock anywhere, be it brick and mortar or online shop. After reading about on the Handspring website, I wanted a Visor more than a Palm. It has a lot more potential for expansion than any Palm in the same price range. Get one. You'll love it.

Summary: Great product. Syncs up nicely with Outlook.
Review: I debated for a few weeks on whether to go with Palm Pilot or Handspring and even considered a Pocket PC. I may still get the Pocket PC, but my Handspring Visor is great for now!

Keeping up with my schedule, maintaining contacts, reading e-mails, adding memos and to-do's -- all accomplished in AND OUT of the office now with my Handspring Visor synced with my PC's Outlook application.

The beaming feature is awesome. My boss and I have been beaming files between his Palm Pilot and my Visor! And most of my colleagues in meetings have Palm Pilots, as well. So when everyone needs to see an e-mail that only one of us received, we can beam the e-mail to the rest of the group.

The only drawback is that I sometimes have to adjust the position of the Visor to make sure the light does not interfere with the screen's visibility.

Overall, a 4 1/2 to 5 start product. Thanks Handspring and thanks Amazon.

Summary: Pocket PC is the Way to Go
Review: I bought a Visor but now regret it. I've since looked into Pocket PCs and the Compaq Aero 1550 is a comparable size and price with far greater functionality. It has a voice recorder, audio jack, rechargable battery, and a Compact Flash port, which is much better than the Springboard port. It also has versions of MS Office software.

The Compaq Aero 1550 is a comparable size and price, but it's features are vastly greater. It has 16 MB memory, a voice recorder, a rechargable battery, an audio jack to play MP3 files, a compact flash port, which is superior to the Springboard, and Pocket versions of MS Office programs.

Review: I have a Visor and now regret having purchased it. It's great for what it does, but I found the Compaq Aero 1550. For a comparable price you get vastly more functionality including a voice recorder, audio jack, Pocket MS Office software, and a compact flash port, which is similar and more common than Handspring's springboard port.
