Rating: Summary: Enough CPU for the average user, a little bulky Review: This is my first Palm based PDA I've owned. I use my Visor mostly to download my calendar schedules from Yahoo and to do some light reading from Avantgo. For the most part 8MB of RAM on board is more than enough storage space for the average user. The 16MHz Dragonball processor is fast enough to keep up with heavy context switching. The screen quality is very good and can be seen from almost all angles. Handspring has done a good job integrating the Palm OS to their hardware. The Visor rarely crashes on me. The 2 AAA batteries last almost a whole month, unless I use it heavily (1 hour a day), then it goes only 2 weeks at most. The backlight is in blue and is difficult to read in total darkness. If not for reserving the space for the Springboard expansion module, Handspring could've made this device thinner (which they've done with the Visor Edge). The only caveat it has is that the Visor Deluxe cannot connect via the serial port to a PC as a TCP/IP client. Palm devices will let you do that. I am still going to hold on to the Visor as I'm awaiting Xircom's Wireless Ethernet Springboard expansion module that's due out in Q2 2001 (not available for Palm).
Rating: Summary: Second time disappointment Review: Once again, I bought one of these, only to have it decide when it would allow itself to be hot synched on my computers. This is so frustrating! It would be great if it ever worked as it should. In the meantime, it's a very expensive calculator.
Rating: Summary: My changes Review: The Handspring Visor Deluxe is one of the most exciting little gadgets and gizmos to have with you. I would know because over the holidays, I purchased a Cybiko and I thought that it was the best. I was wrong. In case you were wondering, I did get my free MP3 player, but it wasn't a lot of use. Handspring Visor Deluxe has a lot more utilities compared to the Cybiko. You can use it as a cell phone, a mp3 player, play games, and it has an expansion slot that can be made to whatever you would like it to be.
Rating: Summary: Not without its problems... Review: I bough a Visor and within a few months, it crashed. After reviving it, it crashed again. At the behest of Handspring customer service, I updated the OS which fixed the problem of crashes. Then I was unable to get my Visor to hotsync with my PC and turns out that Handspring was going to send me a replacement. Well! the replacement did not come the next dat as ordered but took almost a week because there was some system disconnect between the people who told me that they would send me a new Visor and the people who had to ship out the Visor. Because I complained Handsping did send me a case for the Visor "for my troubles" -- maybe the growing pains of a new company. They could have done better both in regard to the product and their customer service.
Rating: Summary: My first PDA--not bad! Review: I got this PDA awhile back and I must say it is a great way to store numbers and play games. Only thing I dont like is the backlight doesnt dazzle me, and oh yes, I let the batteries die and the thing completely died. It wouldnt let me sync or anything after replacing the batteries. But, the company advence exchanged it so I was satisfied. Very rarely will a moderately priced item be advance exchanged by any company, but Handspring wants your business! I love the module concept, it greatly increases functionality. A co-worker has a Compaq Ipac and I must say I love the Visor much more. WINDOWS CE IS A JOKE! Anyway, this is the one to get (dont buy the regular Visor). I would like to get the color one WITH rechargable battery, but I am going to wait until they produce a slim Edge style one with color and rechargable battery. That will be the best. Good job Handspring!
Rating: Summary: i love it... Review: I baught this product some time ago and it rocks.....Its easy to use and has alot of great attachments. Its great for school to. It realy keeps me organised and you can play games with it. The visor deluxe by handspring would be my first choise wile getting a handheld organiser. Its much better than the palm IIIxe and has a very stiylish look to it. I would also recommend wile getting this to by the Eye model its a digital camera you can attach to your visor.
Rating: Summary: Simple, stylish and useful Review: This is a great PDA for your money, particularly if you are buying your first one. The Palm OS is surprisingly easy to use and you can learn it in a merely a few well spent minutes. Other pros: the design is very attractive, the screen clear and easy to read, and you have the option of adding accessories with the expansion port. After upgrading from my old palm, I found only one complaint... it doesn't seem to be a sturdy as the Palm PDA's. Somehow it feels more cheaply made, but with the low price it certainly is a tempting product (although the new Palm m100 is cheaper and might be a better choice.) These PDA's are some of those gadgets where after you actually purchase and use one you can't imagine your life without it.
Rating: Summary: No problems here! Review: I broke my screen on my deluxe visor today when i dropped it. I called the customer service number and for $85.00 they will send me out a brand new visor to replace my broken screen by Tuesday! This is really just the topping on the dessert! This pda has been a god send in every way and now with this news I can't help but recommend it to everyone!
Rating: Summary: Win2000 not properly supported Review: I bought the Visor Deluxe instead of a Palm IIIxe because of the expandability, and because the default HotSync format was USB. I spent many hours trying to make the thing work on my Windows 2000 machine. As a diagnostic, I installed the unit on a Win98 machine to verify that the unit itself and cradle were okay -- no problems. Handspring Tech support was VERY responsive, writing me back within a few hours, telling me what else to try. The recommendations were to visit websites, download more software, etc etc. The unit was shipped allegedly compatible with Win2000, so I see that as someone else's job. I am also unhappy with the ergonomics. The removable cover is terrible. The Palm IIIxe's hinged cover makes much more sense. I am returning my unit.
Rating: Summary: Fragile Review: Love the operating system and expandability but I've had to replace the screen twice on my Visor Deluxe in the last month. The first time wasn't entirely a surprise--a colleague set a heavy book on it. The second time (after the $85 screeen replacement cost) was more distressing--it cracked in mid-flight with no discernible change in cabin pressure. The problem is that for the $85 you're getting someone else's used Visor...I learned that they just recycle the units they get back. I just hope the in-flight incident was a fluke.
