Rating: Summary: Compatibility and Too Small Fonts Review: I got this unit as a replacement for my Palm Personal. While some have complained about poor backlighting on this Clie it is better than my old unit. There is a big problem with the fonts though. While I could change the display font for the text that I entered the system font, the one used for prompts and icon label etc. is too small for me to read but the ability to change the font of the text that I entered such as in the address book list is changable and is much more ledgable than the my Palm Personal. There is a caviat with compatibility. You MUST have USB v1.1! The HotSync is not compatable with with USB v1.0. Also I had trouble loading the PalmDesktop for Clie on one of my older computers that had had Palm desktop 4.01 installed on it already
Rating: Summary: Acceptable Review: I need a PDA for keeping contacts, appointments and memos. The price and size of Clie SL 10 is ideal. However, it is still larger than what I expected. The display is dark and hard to read under dim light. You need direct light on top of the display to make reading comfortable. Good under bright sun light. I like the text, clear and clean, some people might find it hard to read, because the texts are small. Over all, it is simple device that does every thing I needed.
Rating: Summary: i like it Review: this is my first pda, and i'm glad i bought it. i've played around w/ my friends handspring visor before, and am glad i went for the clie rather than it. The clie' feels more solid than the handspring. I really like it's compact size, as it is about the size of my wallet, and slips into my pocket with room to spare. what also drew me to buying the clie, is that i already have a sony digital camera, so i already had somthing with memory stick capabilities, and it is great to share images between them on the stick. i was impressed by the resolution of the display. And about the comment that it isn't "backlit," that is false. Although the backlight is hard to see during the daylight, why would u need it during the day anyways? but in dark rooms, it is a significantley bright green glow behind it, sufficing perfect lighting for use. this is a great buy, compared to its competition. it also came with great software, including an ebook reader, road atlas, diet organizer, microsoft documents to go, and other useful programs. I've had only limited difficulties with the clie. For some reason, when i connect it to my computer via the usb cable, it does not recognize that i have a memory stick in my pda, resulting in my having to connect my digital camera (w/ the memory stick in it) in order to store anything on the memory stick. This could be my problem, but i havn't been able to find a way to fix it. Also, I havn't used the jog dial all that much, mainly because i am a lefty and it is somewhat difficult to use with the fingers of my right hand, compared to the thumb of my left, but it is a good invention for the right handed user. overall, this is a great buy. i have not been dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: it's the service, stupid! Review: I have been considering adding PEG-SL10 to a Sony Clie Sl-S360 that I bought two months ago. The S360 worked fine, in fact, as perfect as it comes. The memory stick is great, especially if you have other Sony equipment that uses it. However, after two months of use it all of a suddent went dead. The usual tricks like resetting, etc. failed to revive it, and Sony technician had me send it for service to Sony, express mail and all paid by the warranty. 3 weeks later, it came back -- dead as when I sent it back to them, though accompanied with a slip saying it had been tested and worked fine. I am senign it back again. Imagine being without your phone book and pocket calendar for a month! This is totally unacceptable. I wonder if other manufacturers are any better. I've looked at other manufacturers' sites. They seem to keep mum about it, and so does CNET. The only soluiton I can imagine is the "Jaguar" method: buy two. So, I bought PEG-SL10. What an excellent machine! All the functions have a large font option (small, medium, large) which makes for the best possible screen -- once the backlighting is turned on (you need it in dim light). The fact that it has 8 MB rather than 16, as SL360, isn't that important for me or anyone, unless you plan to show movies, keep a photo gallery or read an ebook version of Moby Dick. In short, an excellent little PDA.
Rating: Summary: Returned Review: While this cliƩ is an adorable little PDA, I was forced to return it after only three days. I tried to love my new little unit, but I simply could not get used to the screen. I adjusted the contrast over and again; I moved from one room to another and even outside; I turned on and off the backlight and still one constant remained - the screen was very difficult to see.
Rating: Summary: very dark screen.... Review: i don't recall who said it, but i do know someone did raise the issue about its contrast. its screen simply is too dark and the back light (it does have a back light) drains the battery. otherwise, it's got excellent software. my only real gripes are that it only comes with 8 megs and that the memory stick works more like a backup than an extention of memory. you have to copy files from the ms to the internal drive to be able to use what's stored there. over all, not bad for the price.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing - Returned it Review: The screen on the SL10 had such low contrast that I had difficulty reading it in every lighting condition. The backlight was feeble. The "high resolution" display was a curse in disguise, as the default font that has characters built from lines one pixel wide made for characters so skinny that they were extremely difficult to read. Also disappointing were the weight and thickness of the unit (heavy and thick). I plan to save up a few more dollars for a Palm M500, which is slimmer, lighter and has a much more legible display.
Rating: Summary: Probably Sony's Biggest Mistake Review: This unit does NOT have backlighting. If you are out in the sun or are sitting with a spotlight over your head, you can read the screen. If you are any place else, you can't read it. I am sending it back and purchasing a backlit model, like a T615C. Too bad Sony droped the T415 which was a nice B&W model with the features of T615.
Rating: Summary: Wish they have it in color Review: I have a Visor Edge...absolutely love it! However, I was looking for a smaller non-color PDA... Sony Clie fits the bill. I wish Sony has a better cover like the Visor Edge, which would be awesome! Hopefully, Sony makes it in color...
Rating: Summary: Great value Review: This is a great value! It's perfect for someone who is looking for a PDA that is functional, yet cost-effective. It is not complicated, yet feature rich. Sony designed this really well. Has a great "Back Button" on the left side which makes navigating easier. On-screen keyboard is really easy to use, great grafiti tutorial.
