Summary: Decent PDA
Review: This little PDA is actually pretty nice. It is quite professional, in both looks and functionality. Its speeds were very acceptable and its compact design was a big plus. There are caveats though. The lcd screen is not very bright. The contrast between the background and the text is not high enough, especially if you plan to put something like a WriteRight on these. When i kept it in my pant pocket, the battery compartment would occasionally open. This is due to the sliding compartment door. So a better battery compartment door and higher contrast screen would have made this a much better pda.

Summary: Excellent for a first handheld
Review: So far, I've been very impressed with what is basically a bargain-priced PDA.
It's got all the features that any low priced Palm model would have, and the high resolution screen is a nice step up from the basic 160x160 resolution on the Palm line of PDAs.
Haven't had the chance to test out the memory stick function, but I'm sure it works fine like any other type of expansion offered on any other handheld. The Graffiti input for the text gets the characters right most of the time but for Microsoft Word document creation (with the included software) I'd get the Sony keyboard add on that lets you use this PDA like a basic word processing laptop.
All in all, with the software included and a keyboard add on this PDA is a great replacement for a laptop if you only need some specific functions. I use it to take notes in class and work on all kinds of papers and thus far it has saved me over [$$$] compared to what I would have paid for a laptop that lets me do all the things that this Sony Clie does.

Summary: Difficult to read screen, short battery life
Review: This was my first PDA. At first I thought I would use it only as an organizer, but I soon found myself adding all kinds of features. Once I did that, however, I found that spending long hours looking at a dull b/w screen was not too enjoyable. Furthermore, the unit sucked batteries (they needed to be replaced every few hours). After a little over a week, the unit died on me...

Summary: This is a great product
Review: This Sony is excellant, reliable and fast!

The battery life is suffient, two AAA batteries last a long time, whether while playing games or when used for jotting notes. I average a new pair everyweek if I play games for a couple hours a day, or every month if I leave the Sony sitting around for only a few updates to my address book or memo pad.

Fast processor is wonderful. The games run smoother and the launcher is easier to use. Overclocking is not as nessasary with this handheld, most tasks are quick to complete; a transfer of over a meg from the memory card takes half a minute, which is much faster then smartmedia MemPlugs for Handsprings.

Slim design, smaller then my wallet and does make my pocket buldge. This device is comfortable to have in the pocket and is durable. I have dropped it a few time on not-so-soft terrain and it is still running strong. The soft screen cover provided is dinky and not the greatest, with the periodic event of it falling off, but other then that the design is great.

Screen resolution is wonderful, especially with the equipt Sony software for the Prefs menu; Selecting the high res option for all programs and excluding those that don't support high res is wonderful. Text is easier to read, and buttons are ncer looking. The backlight works well in the dark and drains little battery life. Being only black and white you ay think this is not for you, but I used to have a Prism with 65000+ colors and I love my new Clie! Color isn't everything, it is more of a show off tool then useful for handhelds.

USB connection is adequate, the same cord for my digital camera can be used to hotsync this baby. The memory stick can be run as a harddrive through the Clie which is also a nice feature for those who don't have the ability to transfer directly to Memory Sticks.

Memory is adequate with the standard 8 mb, but having the use of a 128mb Memory stick is what makes this so great. The memory sticks don't hang out the top and are easy to use. Programs can be run from the memory stick and other files like the pictures taken on your digital camera using a memory stick can be accessed. Very useful.

Summary: Batteries Don't Last
Review: If you're looking at the SL10 CLIE, be advised that the batteries don't last more than 2 to 3 weeks! I replaced my PALM whose batteries lasted months, with the CLIE and thought something was wrong with the unit because of how fast I was going through batteries. After a second call to SONY Technical suport, and more than my 30 day return guarantee, I was told that is normal for the unit.
I'm now struck with a PDA that needs new battereis every 2 weeks and SONY doesn't offer a rechargable battery accessory for this unit.
I should have stayed with PALM!

Summary: A review from somebody
Review: The Sony Clie SL10 is an excellent deal for the money. I didn't want to spend too much money on a hadheld, and was seriously considering the Palm m105. For $ more, you get a much better looking hadheld, expandeble memory, that handy jog dial, and the beautiful high resolution screen.

Scattered throughout this customer review page are messages of "this handheld (is bad), the screen is to dark, there is no backlight, I returned it because I (couldn't) adjust the contrast." I have had no trouble in any situation with contrast. If the screen is too dark, I use the , Uhh... Backlight. P>Probably the only downside to the entire package is that it is lacking sound. (besides beeps.) Then again, if you are expecting that from a $$ handheld, then you are truly (unreasonable).

On a more humorous note, I found one particular review quite funny. In fact, if you have these reviews sorted by date, then it should be right under this one. He could not figure out how to change how many icons are displayed on the screen at one time. A very simple fix. Open the main menu at the top, and choose options, then preferances. There you can choose between Icon, Icon (Small), List, and List (Small).

Summary: FANTASTIC
Review: This PDA is hands down the best for its price level. Compare it to the Palm m125. THe clie has the memory stick capabilities, the jog dial and the (arguably) better looks. One thing thats really cool in this Palm is the feature to attach a picture file to any address. I like to draw pictures of people using CLIE Paint, then attach the pictures to the address. Also, this comes with Documents to Go and DataViz for synching with Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes, which is very handy. In terms of software, I'd definately recommend AvantGo(AvantGo.com). It is a program that allows you to download specially formatted websites and view them on the Clie or Palm. Some of my favorite sites are Reuters US, Metacritic and the Weather Channel. A great buy.

Summary: Excellent first-time PDA
Review: The SL10 is a quite functional PDA and easy to use. The adjustable font makes it easy on older eyes to view. Menus are easy to switch between and all the sw available is a plus. Drawbacks: Often without backlit "on", the screen is difficult to see. Related to the first,is battery use - with the backlight on, the batteries wear down within a day or two. Easily solved by using a cradle to power the Clie at your desk, saving the batteries.

Summary: Solid PDA
Review: Sony continues to rock the entire PDA industy with its Clie line. Within weeks Sony introduced a low-end, mid-range and high-end unit in the SJ series. Other then price these units clearly target a particular consumer group. Its just a matter of weighing the features with the cost to determine which unit is best for you.

With virtually the same number of models ever released as palm there is really no question about quality and reliability. As a matter of fact some may argue that despite the much larger share of Palm over Sony in terms of units sold, with the past year it has been Sony who has picked up the slack as the Industy leader in innovation. In an industry which is highly dependent on innovation, Sony has done more for PALM in the past year and a half then PALM has done for PALM in the 5 years that they have been around.

Since all three units have identical exteriors I will review three at the same time. The buttons are a vast improvement from the T-series but may still pose as a problem with them being to close to each other. Otherwise the screen is terrific on all three and visual output is crisp whether monochrome or color. Hi-Res or 320x320 pixels is a huge improvement on palms 160x160 pixels. I may be exaggerating going back to 160x160 resolution is like going back to playing PONG on the Atari after playing Mario Brothers on the Nintendo.

In terms of battery life the SJ-10 and SJ-20 will give you a week's worth of battery life while the SJ-30 will give you 3-4 solid days of typical use before requiring a recharge. Although clie's are known to have slightly less battery life as its Palm counterparts, it certainly makes up for it with its screen.

Preference is really what will dictate which unit is best for you. If color is not important and all you need to do is input dates, contacts and notes then the SJ-10 will fit the bill. But if you need to do all those things plus games, documents and to view web clippings then the SJ-20 might be better suited for your needs.

This series is a great addition to the clie line with a unit for virtually everyone. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Summary: Excellent, with two exceptions
Review: The SL10 is excellent in terms of its compact size, sturdy feel, and wealth of applications. The 320x320 resolution is a nice change from the 160x160 found on Palms and Handsprings. I also like that it uses batteries. I travel a lot and it's more secure to know that I can pick up AAA batteries whereever I am when I might not have access to a plug with which to charge an internal battery unit.
The one major flaw is how dark the screen is. For photo viewing, it almost defeats the advantage of the higher resolution. It can be hard to read in certain light, and the highly reflective screen does not help matters. The SL20 does not have this problem (I saw both side by side at a BestBuy).
The second problem I have had is that the stylus point is not quite as smooth as it should be. Because of this I have scratched my screen a bit. I need to hold the stylus a certain way to make sure I get smooth action on the screen.
Overall, though, this is an excellent unit for the price and has served me well. Before buying, however, I would recommend seeing the screen in person as I think many would not be happy with how dark it is (yes, even with the backlighting).
