Summary: good with reservations
Review: I bought this for my wife who is a first time PDA user. I use an older handspring model compared to which this unit is sleek and well designed. The font is hard to read under normal light which dissapointed me. The jog dial is really userful and handy. The photo & video applications seem useful for the increased resolution. Over all, a ok buy.

Summary: Beats the Palm
Review: After Palm had me "trade up" from a Palm III that worked great for 3+ years to a m125, and after having 2 "replacement" m125s (all 3 had screen failure) and then Palm basically abandoning me (I was getting to the rude side by that time, offering to "trade up", again, to get a different and more expensive model on the specific condition that it actually worked - I got no response)it was great to get this SONY that used the Palm OS system but has a great screen. I do agree that the screen is a bit hard to read, moreso than the Palm, but that is little to put up with to get something that works this well. I bought two. (I also agree that the more expensive models of SONY may be worth it - mainly to get color and simply resolve the difficulty in reading the screen issue - but my use - calender and phone book - do not justify the move up. This one hits the spot at a cost 1/3 below the m125 junker.

Summary: Don't believe what you read....
Review: The CLIE is an excellent value, especially before the beginner. I was nervous purchasing this because of the negative feedback, but the price was too right to pass up. Yes, the font is terrible, BUT there is a program (thin font fix) widely available for free on the Web. The font is more-than-sufficient with that program. I have had no problems with resets or anything else for that matter. I find the CLIE very user friendly, the battery lasts long (over two weeks of my normal use - mostly scheduling - - with nearly 80% battery life left) and it has all the programs and space that I'll need.

Summary: Great value, best for this price range
Review: I got my SL10 about a week ago, and so far it works great.
I put some software on it (the software that comes with the device and some other stuff), as much as I can put in 6 MB (I wanted to save some space for extra stuff I'll put, and I don't wanna ever have a problem with too small memory left.
I'm probably gonna buy a memory stick, but I don't think I (or any other user who has average needs) will need mor ethan 32 MB.

The resolution is great, I can see everything clearly, and it's much better than the 160x160 resolution. Really it's a really big difference.
I read the problems other people before me reported, like the problem with the light, but I didn't have any kind of problem like that, I read clearly, even books (with the MobiPocket Reader), and it's written clearly.
I didn't yet have to change batteries, but it's on about 70%, which means (I guess) I'll have to replace them in about 3 weeks (a month isn't such a short time after all, but yet, in other devices the batteries last for aprox. 2 month. But after all, I used it a lot this week to add all the info (it's my first device, so I couldn't beam the info).

I really like this device, but there's one thing that I'd like to have, and I don't think is possible for the SL10; I'd really like to have an MP3 player, but as much as I know, there ain't anything for the SL10. Of course, if I'd have it I'd use much more memory, but whatever, I guess I won't have an MP3 player INSIDE my PDA for 2 more years. Whatever. Every time I'll make one more step.

Summary: clie peg sl-10 rules!
Review: The clie peg sl10 rules.Yes, the screen is a little dark, but i just use the backlight. My suggetion is to buy a nice set of rechargable batteries and just keep a set handy. That's what i do and it works for me. For software, go to http://www.palmgear.com/software/index.cfm. My favorite software is Documents To Go(this comes on the CD). It allows me to do my homework on my palm and sync it with my computer almost instantly by just running hot sync.

Summary: First PDA
Review: The Sony Clie SL10 is my first PDA. I think it is great for beginners. I take it everywhere and am just getting the hang of downloading from the Palm website. The size is convenient, can fit it in my smallest purse. The only issue that I have with this product is battery life especially if you have children and a husband that want to take turns playing the games (by the way just ordered one for my husband as a birthday gift) and for some strange reason i get a message that says I have to reset. But I just click on reset and continue was I was doing. Had a little trouble figuring out how to turn on backlight but finally got it after a few days, the manual doesn't mention anything about holding down the power on button. Anyway, love my Clie.

Summary: Crash, crash, crash
Review: That's right. Crash, crash, crash... as in it crashed 3 times in one hour today. I had to do three hard resets (this is very irritating and time consuming, in case you don't know what a hard reset entails). I've had my Clie for 8 days, and it's crashed every other day. I'm sending it back. Unfortunately, I don't know what I'll replace it with, considering there aren't really any quality handhelds in the same price range. Chalk it up to the [price]range and the poor man's PDAs. I gave it two stars. When it IS running, it's better than not having a handheld at all. If you'are also in that [same price range] and below price range like me, save an extra $50 and buy the Palm M500.

Summary: Don't Buy
Review: I just got a new CLIE SL-10 and I want to tell you-
I was never as disappointed from a product I bought as I am now!
My problem is the screen. It is so dark - you can barley read the text on it (even after changing the contrast)!
In order to read the text you have to tilt the PDA and only then can you see anything written on the screen.
And what is a PDA good for if you can't read from it???

And -no! I don't have any problems with my eye-sight.

Summary: A bargain PDA with good features.
Review: I've used the SL10 since almost the day it came out, after testing the Clie NR70V and other high-end handhelds, and I appreciate the features packed into this affordable device.

The 320x320 resolution makes it possible to carry decent black-and-white photos with the included image apps, and its processor is fast enough to handle most tasks. Like most PalmOS 4.x-based machines, it drags on high-intensity apps like XMap Street Atlas USA.

I bought this machine because of its low price tag (considering its specs) and the fact that it still took AAA batteries. I'm awful about remembering to recharge my devices, so I appreciate being able to pop into a drug store when my charge is running low. The batteries don't last as long as they did in my Palm III or IIIx, but then I'm asking this one to do a lot more, too, and I'm a heavy alarm user. I typically get 2-3 weeks out of a single pair.

This is not a PDA with all the cutting-edge bells and whistles, but it's a solid business machine at a price that won't make you feel guilty for upgrading more often. The included software has some good apps along with the junk. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Sl10 It's better then it's competition
Review: Buy the Sony clie 20 from comp usa for 179.00 and get the free 128 Megs free! It's a better deal. You'll really like the white light better then this back light. However, this PDA is still a great pda. I just prefer the white light of the 20.
