Summary: Great product, much better than the Palm M100
Review: I bought one of these for my wife and I must say that this is a well thought out product with great features.

Bad things first: I don't like the fact that the screen is way too dim, that is why I'm giving it only 4 stars.

On the plus side I like the fact that is about twice as fast (or more) than the PALM M100 that I have. This can be noticed in every operation and particularly in games like bejeweled.

The machines works perfectly with Macintosh and OSX 10.1.3 out of the box with the provided USB cable. The USB connection is great, I can't even measure how fast this baby synchronizes, it's that fast. The only thing lacking if you're using an Apple Macintosh is the picture and movies options present in the PC software. This options work in the Mac with the software "the missing sync" from Mark/Space (http://www......html) which can be obtained for ....

The screen has 4 times more pixels than the Palm and it shows: everything is sharper and the Apps made for the clie are beautiful.

The included apps are great: documents to go allows you to create and edit excel and word documents, which is great.

The Clie design is great, we like it a lot, is a solid device with nice looking lines.

This is a great entry level product. If you can afford the more expensive ones go ahead and buy it, it is worth it if it has a brighter screen and an AC adaptor.

Summary: the Bimbo PDA!
Review: I went from a Handspring Visor Platinum to this Clie and now almost regret it.

PROs: screen resolution is twice as sharp and gorgeous, nice sleek metallic casing, Documents To Go is already included allowing you to view and edit Word & Excel files

CONs: screen is hard to read except under bright light so you have to use the backlight more often which burns batteries much faster; the Handspring had much more practical features for business use such as Datebook Plus and Expense Tracker; documentation is incredibly useless so you have to dig around the online website which is only a little less useless so you have to use the 1-800 help number which is OK if you can stand the hold times.

Also, the Clie is loaded with a lot of memory-hogging software that you CANNOT remove---fluffy flaky junk like photo viewers, movie viewers, memory stick drivers, camera and MP3 apps. (why anybody would WANT to view photos and movies on a MONOCHROME screen escapes me)

I can understand that maybe SOME users will actually use these but why can't those of us who don't want to use them remove it??? ...

I guess that's wy they call this an "Entertainment Organizer"---probably fine for video games and other fluff but not really geared for the business user.

Should be called "The Bimbo PDA"---looks great but not much else!

Summary: Instant Love - relationship gone into the Trash
Review: SONY Incompatible with Proven PALM software!!!
I picked up the Sony Clie SL10 after looking at it for only a few minutes. I thought the hi-res screen was great and it was nice and pocket-able and inexpensive - although it did hurt my eyes once I really started to use it.

SOFTWARE GLITCH - I lose all my data every couple of days due to "MemoryMgr.c:line4415" error. Sony claims this is 3rd party software problems and "Sony takes no responsibility for 3rd party software". Sounds reasonable enough except.....
This software, "timeLogger" from http://www.....com is my most important application and has been tested extensively for three years on every other Palm device including Handspring, and every PALM unit including the finicky Tungsten with Palm OS5 with not a problem. Sony won't help me.
A google search for MemoryMgr.c shows MANY links to SONY clie products, including some messages on the cliesource site (december 12, 2002 is one message).

However, when you get to the Cliesource bulleting board, there is no trace of such a message, suggesting a cover-up as the message was deleted in only 6 weeks.
BEWARE of sony software incompatibility.

Summary: Great entry-level value
Review: The Sony Clie PEG-SL10 is a great value for those wanting to buy their first PDA, but can't justify the ... price tag of higher-level models. The less-than brilliant (although hi-res grayscale) display, USB cable instead of a cradle, and AA batteries are acceptable price-feature tradeoffs. On the upside, you get a backlight, the Palm OS, Memory Stick expandability, Jog Dial, and a sleek design and small size that beats the similarly-priced offerings from Palm and Handspring. The software bundle is also great.

Tip: hang onto the stylus. The standard flip-cover does not protect it from getting snagged and pulled out of its "silo." Replacement styli are available from Sony, but are [costly]. Third-party replacements (e.g., Fellowes) are functional, but rather flimsy -- they'll make you appreciate how well-designed and made the Sony stylus is, with its heavier metal body and removable reset tool.

Summary: Great low end PDA
Review: This is a great PDA for the money. I have owned 3 palms, after each crashed I gave up on the palm line. Over 1 year ago, I bought my wife one of the first Sony PDAs on a clearance sale. After seeing the quality of the Sony product, I decided to invest in the PEG-SL10 for myself.

The size is a definite plus. It is not as clunky as the palm models (around the same price range). The software it comes with is great and the product is easy to use. Although this PDA doesn't have all the bells and whistles, its a great, functional tool for those who don't have time to play PDA games and just need an organizer.

Summary: Most features for the lowest price!
Review: Here's why this PDA is great:

- 8 MB is plenty of room for a PDA, however, the memory stick option allows you to increase by 128 MB.
- Superb resolution, can display monochrome pictures as well as MPEG videos (or some equivalent).
- Design is classic Sony, jog dial, "back" button, overall size and weight are perfect.
- Excellent software preinstalled allows you to work with and synch Word/Excel documents.
- Blows the comparably priced Palm Zire out of the water in terms of resolution, memory, and functions.
- The price is first-rate; this piece of kit would have cost a lot of quid just a couple of years ago.
- It has infrared capability for sharing information and hot-synching.
- Great battery life.
- It uses Palm OS.

Here's why you may NOT like this PDA:

- It's not color (although color only adds to the cool quotient, it does nothing for your information).
- The high resolution makes the letters hard to read, honestly, if you're over 50 you will likely hate it (but you can increase the font).
- The stylus is very thin and hard to manipulate for people with less than dexterous hands (but you can buy a replacement).
- Uses a USB cable instead of a cradle for hot-synching.
- No audio to speak of other than the standard beeps and buzzes.
- Uses standard AAA batteries (although I considered this a plus, I hate high-maintenance technology).
- It's the lowest line, so it won't impress too many people (if this is your primary motivation you wouldn't even be considering this product).

Overall: As you can tell I am really happy with this PDA. It is better than the PEG-SL20 because it's $$ cheaper and doesn't rely on rechargeable batteries (the SL20 doesn't use a docking station; you have to plug in this giant serial-port-looking cable). I also use a Sony Digital Camcorder with memory stick, this allows me to film short videos or capture low-res pictures and view them right on the PDA. I have an IR port on my laptop which allows for simple, albeit slower, synching back to the mother ship. These capabilities are fun but not too important. This is my third PDA and by far the best. You cannot beat this little Sony. Finally, I do wish I knew how to pronounce "Clie."

Summary: Excellent PDA for 1st Time User
Review: I bought this inexpensive PDA because I was not sure how much I would use the PDA in my job as a nurse practitioner. I have found it easy to use, and it has quickly become indespensible to me. I use the Epocrates tool constantly, as well as the Johns Hopkins Antiobiotic Guide. I have also found the calendar to be very helpful in organizing my busy schedule. The features specific to this PDA really seem to make in stand out above the rest. The Jog dial makes scrolling through text very easy, and the high-resolution screen is very easy to read. Initially, I found the font "thin" and hard to read, but on the recommendation of another reviewer, I used the Thin Font Fix program, and now the font is very easy to read. The backlight is very nice in low light situations. Having AAA batteries rather than lithium ion is an advantage to me -- I bought my own rechargables to use, but I also have the flexibility to grab some alkaline batteries in a pinch. I give the PDA 4 stars rather than 5 only because I am a Mac OS user, and was annoyed that the Clie did not support this platform. I fixed the program myself by downloading free software from Palm. (You do not need to buy the Missing Sync software.)

Summary: Screen too dark
Review: Even though this is a great PDA if you ever have to use it in poor lighting conditions you will strain your eyes to see anything. Basically the screen is dark so unless you are in front of a bright light you won't be able to see very much. I ended up returning mine.

Summary: Beware the warranty and service issues
Review: SONY has a default 90 day warranty. If you register online within 90 days(sugggest you use a spam attracting email address!) the warranty period is extended to 1 year. The web site service descriptions suggest that SONY isn't very strong in the service department, but we've not called.

We've twice experienced a complete reset with total data loss on this device. Once might have been due to the battery cover coming loose. Watch that battery cover.

Several users have commented that the text is very fine and hard to read. A Japanese developer has generously provided a fix for the world, the resulting fonts are quite readable. (ThinFontFix

Summary: This is the Worst -- buy a Palm
Review: The screen is horrible. There is no contrast. It is basically gray. Save yourself the frustration of getting a brand new PDA and having to call customer support within 30 minutes because you can't read half the applications. Don't listen to the positive reviews as I did. Check out the Palms. And run, don't walk away from this product.
