Rating: Summary: Soft/Hard Reset Machine Review: I have owned my Visor for 15 months. Initially, I loved it and would of recommended it to anyone: Long battery life, slim design, plenty of memory, low price tag. But my opinion has changed. Most importantly, it changed due to its flaky nature with add-on (3rd party) software. The Visor is strictly hit or miss, with much more of the latter. First off, let me say, I use my PDA mainly for business. DocsToGo works like a champ. But almost everything else has caused it to LOCK UP. The initial fix is to do a SOFT RESET. Sometimes that works, but depending on what I was doing, I would lose some work. More often though, the LOCK UP would be catastrophic, and only HARD RESET would do the trick. This basically returns it to factory settings, losing all the data stored within. Pain in the butt, since you need to link up with your computer and re-download everything. For a while I just struggled through it. Then it started happening when I was traveling. Let me tell you, it is VERY FRUSTRATING! On the plus note, the battery life is good. Granted batteries get weaker, but overall they last a while. I used to be able to go 2 weeks without recharging, if I am lucky now about 6 days. If you are looking at entering the PDA market, I would skip this device if you must rely on having your data when you are away from home.

Rating: Summary: Extremely disappointing Review: I have owned the Edge for two years now, and I continue to be disappointed with it as time goes on. The fact that it has been discontinued speaks for itself. This [pricey] unit was marketed as state-of-the-art at its inception, but basically it is a glorified address book. And its exterior design has proved not to be so great - the flip cover is inconvienent, the hard case is not a protection, the springboard module adapter system simply does not work, and the battery has to be recharged every day. With the recent announcement of the re-merger of Palm and Handspring, one wonders whether the entire Handspring line has been one of the most colossal cons of the electronic world.
Rating: Summary: Handspring definitely has the Edge Review: I love this pda. I bought this about a month ago when school first started it is just wonderful. It's so much better than a paper organizer and it's so light and slim that I can take it with me anywhere. The rechargable lithium battery is also an advantage...I used to have a PalmPilot and whenever the battery ran out I lost my information. With the Edge, the battery never dies. The 8mb memory is sufficient enough to download software from the internet (I have already downloaded a thesaurus, 4.0 Student, a spanish medical translator, some medical conversion programs, not to mention all the games that I have). The Edge is great for students - you can just slip it in your bookbag without adding to the weight of all your books. By the way, if you're a student...I recommend downloading 4.0 Student (...). It's a great program where you can keep track of your grades, assignments, teachers, etc. I also bought the aluminum case, which gives added protection. It adds a little more weight but it makes the Edge look much nicer. Overall, I would rate this product excellent. I don't know what I would do without it.
Rating: Summary: The Discerning Choice Review: I purchased a Visor Edge a few weeks ago, and I must say that I am completely in love with it. Like most people, I did my research prior to purchasing a PDA and was initially put off the Visor Edge by all the negative reviews I encountered. I noticed however that the negative reviews relating to the hardware problems were dated a long time ago, and I figured that Handspring MUST have sorted out their production issues by now. This convinced me to include it on my list to 'testdrive'. All PDAs work pretty much the same if they have PALM OS. Much like mobile phones, PDAs all essentially do the same thing. So what is there to differentiate PDAs? First of all you need to decide if you are a PalmOS or a WinCE person. I chose PALMOS because I dont need 2 laptops. To differentiate between the PALMOS products, my list was: Rechargeable battery, size of screeen, price competitiveness, overall thickness, and of course sex appeal. For me, the Visor Edge won hands down (especially sex appeal) Sure it doesnt have the latest operating system or blue tooth capability (will you REALLY use this?) and I did not feel that double the price justified something that I would not notice or use. Just a point of note: The first Visor Edge I got did not work! It refused to charge or power on. Luckily after reading the negative reviews I had decided not to leave the shop until I was satisfied I had received a working Visor. This proved to be a smart strategy. As part of your research, visit visorvillage.com for all those free programs you can use with your Visor.
Rating: Summary: After 2 years, I still love it. Review: I've dropped it countless times. I run all sorts of software on it. And I've never had any problems whatsoever; this thing just keeps on working perfectly. Despite its dated bios and b&w screen, this remains the most elegant, usable pda I've ever seen.

Rating: Summary: Almost 3 years latter... Review: Practical, portable, durable, expandable, and it looks good. Practical - The Visor Edge ("VE") uses Palm software. Unlike Windows CE and the like, its quick and easy to jot down biz information and to retrieve it. Portable - Check out the specs. This is the thinnest and lightest PDA around. Durable - Metal case with metal flip cover. My VE has been in backpacks, back pockets, and in cargo pants for almost 3 years and it's still going strong. Expandable - A plethora of useful and fun applications are developed for the Palm platform. It looks good - My VE is brushed silver: sleek with a futuristic feel. When someone manages to fit a color PDA into a VE shell, I'll consider upgrading.
Rating: Summary: Better than an address book Review: The learning curve for this PDA is about as short as it gets. Many functions that are extremely useable for most students as well as business people. DataBase products available to create your own lists and functionality. Durable and Hotsyncs easily with all Windows products. Recharges in the cradle in a very short period of time and holds the charge exceptionally well compared to most color type screens. For the money and memory size this ones hard to beat!
Rating: Summary: Wait for the price cuts... Review: The Visor Edge is definitely going to come down in price, otherwise it can not compete in this market. The Visor Edge's sole advantage is its thinness. It is by far the thinnest PDA. But at the current price, you are paying almost double the cost of a Visor Deluxe for what is functionally the exact same thing, except it is thinner with a rechargeable battery. Would you pay twice as much for a computer just because it was slightly smaller and looked cooler? This is the Palm OS equivalent of the Apple Cube -- a beautiful machine that didn't justify its cost. At this level, I would also find it hard to pick this machine over the Palm Vx, which has a few minor software features that this model lacks, feels better in your hands and even weighs almost an ounce less. Bottom line: This appears to be a good product (I've tested them extensively and my friend has one), but not a great deal. BTW, putting the Springboard module on this product makes it look totally unwieldy and eliminates the "cool" factor. If you like Springboard, keep your Visor Deluxe).
