Summary: It grows on you
Review: My opinion of this product has changed dramatically in the months following my purchase. There is a whole lot of good mixed with some bad here.

The Good:
The display is spectacular - clear and razor sharp. It is very easy on the eyes under most lighting conditions. I normally use this either under a dimly lighted home environment or a brightly lighted office environment - the display is very readable in both environments. It is not so great in bright sunlight. If you anticipate a lot of use in bright sunlight, I would consider something else. This unit comes w/ Documents To Go for high resolution Palms. In high resolution mode you can actually see your spreadsheet, instead of just 2 or 3 columns at a time as with the older 160x160 display resolution Palms. That makes the spreadsheet in Docs to Go actually useful. You can even zoom out to a level that allows you to see +/- 10 columns, although at that scale you need the eyes of a teenager, or a good prescription.

The Clie has all the speed you could ask for. When performing searches or spreadsheet calcs, the 66 MHz processor speed is noticible and welcome.

Finally, the form factor is perfect for slipping into and out of your pocket. I normally carry mine in my hip pocket, and never have a problem either slipping it in my pocket or taking it out - and it does not feel bulky at all. A nice touch is the "hold" switch. Sliding this switch to "hold" prevents the Clie from accidently turning on while in your pocket or luggage. A very welcome feature.

This unit also comes w/ a charger that detaches from the cradle to double as a travel charger. Even the cradle is nicer than on the Palms. You don't have to struggle to place the Clie into the cradle, it just slips right in place. Further, the contacts for the cradle attachment are recessed inside the body of the Clie, protected from items in your pocket, like keys and coins. The Palm M series contacts are fully exposed.

The Bad:
The nice slim form factor that makes this thing slide into and out of your pocket so easily, also makes it tiring to hold for extended periods. The slim metal case is very slippery, requiring more effort to hold than say the Palm M series units. That being said, I would rather things stay the way they are since PDAs normally spend more time in the pocket than in the hand anyway. While Palm M series units are easier to hold, they are more difficult to slide into and out of your pocket.

Sony service is not the best in the world. But I think at the upper levels they are knowlegable and sincere in their efforts to assist you. The difficulty is in getting to the upper levels. The first level of tech support I think is in India or Pakistan, so the english isn't all that great - I understand that many manufactures are switching to that format to trim costs. That is fine if you are Pakistani - but can be very frustrating for english speakers. If your problem is serious enough you will be "elevated" to the next level of support, which I think is in the US.

Battery life is not very good. They advertise 2 weeks - but that is pretty deceptive. If I don't use it much I can get several days out of it but one day of intensive use will drain the battery. A recent review in Pen Computing measured battery life at just over 3 hours of continuous use. That may be the result of the high resolution color display, because Pen Computing rated the new Palm Tungston as having the same battery life, about 3 hours continuous use. I just wish manufacturers would be more honest about rating battery life.

Finally, a Clie and a Palm cannot coexist on the same computer. This is the only flaw that I find very disappointing. You have to remove all traces of your old Palm software prior to installing the Clie.

Conclusion:
PDAs are designed by compromise. You can't fit everything you want into such a small case. Considering the good w/ the bad, I have no regrets in buying the Clie. They made some good compromises and have a very good product here.

Summary: Outstanding Clarity
Review: I previously owned a Palm 105, the bottom feeder of handheld technology. I recently upgraded to the Sony Clie and it was like going from dark to light. What an amazing difference! The unit could weigh a little less, but basically it's compact and holds a tremendous amount of information. In addition, the screen is so clear and you can make the letters large enough to read in any environment. It has many bells and whistles that I haven't even discovered yet. I have a small business and this unit allows me to keep all my client information, my calendar of appointments and important information right at my fingertips. It's easy to use and better yet, easy to read and recover information you need. Thank you SONY!

Summary: CliƩ T-665C Rules!
Review: I recently purchased the T-665C to replace my iPaq 3650. My purpose for getting the iPaq was to forgo carrying a laptop around. Although Pocket PC's have alot of functionality, they are not laptop replacements!

The Sony has a great display, better than the iPaq and far, far better than the 160x160 on the Palm. It is bright, good in sunlight and easy to read. This is reason alone to pick the Sony over the Palm!

The other key feature that sold me on the Sony was MP3. MP3 capability a real plus when on long flights. Having to use a Sony memory stick for storage is a bit of a downfall, since they are only compatible with other Sony products and I already had CF cards in use. However, the prices have come down alot in the past year.

Highly recommended.

Summary: Pretty cool but...
Review: This is my first PDA so I don't know too much except that this machine is really a computer in the palm of your hands. ...
Anyway, the screen is crystal clear and quite nice. I wish the games that came on the CD rom were free if you like them you have to buy them and Sony should include a game bundle ... ... Also, the troubleshooting section in the manual seems a bit weak-only talks about sound mostly not the screen freezing up which it did, and I just hit the reset button in the back. Nevertheless, I am excited about possibly using it in the classroom to take notes (when I get good at the grafitti) instead of paper notebooks. I think I may a wish investement but time will tell.
...
An update: the thing has a tendency to freeze any you need to reset it, also the letter keypad doesn't work right at times.

Summary: Great display and features, poor battery life
Review: I've had my T665C for a couple of months now. I love using it. It has great features, well thought out controls, it's well built, and it looks great.

The main problem I have with it is the battery life. Unlike what other people say, the battery seems to drain very quickly.
I think the difference may be the backlight. I have it turned on all the time, because the display is very hard to read indoors without it. With the backlight, the display is amazingly clear.

Anyway, when the backlight is on, even normal use seems to drain the battery quickly. For example, I was shopping for a camcorder, so I was taking notes on model numbers and features as I went from store to store. I only used the notepad (no mp3 playing, etc.) and I had drained the battery by the end of one day. When I was entering information I found while browsing the web (basically continuous use), the battery was almost gone within a couple of hours.

I wish there were a way to get a longer lasting battery. I'm very happy with the other features. Enough so that I'm willing to live with the short battery life. I may need to get another cradle so that I have one for work and one for home. That way it won't ever be that far from getting a charge.

Summary: GREAT PDA FOR THE COLLEGE STUDENT!
Review: I'm 22, and I just got my first handheld to use at college. I've had the T665 for about 2 weeks and I have to say, I did a ton of research on handhelds before deciding on this one.

I just want to let everyone know DON'T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! This is a very versatile device if you want a handheld to do everything well, and is perfect for the college student! People complain about battery life, but come on, I think you're asking for a bit much to have a colour hanheld with 320X320 65,000 colour display capable of playing mp3s to run off of rechargable batteries for 2 weeks, BE REALISTIC PEOPLE!

If you need something for travelling get a b/w handheld. But for the rest of us everyday people, especially people like me, I'll take mine to school in the morning, organize my day, jot down quick memos to remind me of things to do, and when I'm in the lab, I can easily start writing up a quick spreadsheet right away to record data. And if I'm studying on campus, I can use this thing to listen to mp3s on the go. I'll be syncing this thing at night when i go to bed, so battery life isn't an issue, just like i don't think its an issue for the common user.

As for the design, I think the buttons are just fine, they don't stick out above frame, so they can't accidently be pressed.

I love the jog dial on the side, I'm left handed, and it's not even an issue. I hold it in my right hand, and manipulate the jog dial with my middle finger, it's very easy!

This is a super machine, and I think sony really hit the nail on the head with a very stylishly designed, powerful handheld, I can't wait to purchase a 128 meg memory stick!

I'm gonna be the most stylish boy on campus now! Thanks sony!

Summary: The best PDA for Mac users
Review: This CliƩ is excellent. SuperBright screen, very hi-resolution, good battery life for a color. You WILL need MissingSync with this model (T665), but you do not need MissingSync for the T415 and the T615.

Summary: Wow! Great PDA
Review: I've used all sorts of PDA's over the years, starting with the Apple Newton. This is my fourth Palm device. The Clie by far is the most impressive PDA I've ever used. Bright, clear display; colors are great. Faster processor than I've seen yet. Lots of good applications; This exceeded my expectations.
Smaller, lighter, less expensive than the Pocket PC's; but does most if not all the functions of a Pocket PC.

Summary: GREAT!
Review: In my opinion this unit is the best PDA as of august 2002. It has fantastic display, the same processor as NR series, has mp3 player, has many software with it, has the stable palm OS, and still it is sufficiently thin to carry around (look at this factor if you are thinking about Clie NR series) and most importantly it has enough battery for about 5-10 days.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: This was my first PDA, it is easy to operate, very quick. I love the color screen. Sony makes a quality product, you won't be disapointed if you purchase this item.
