Summary: Great PDA, hassle with desktop
Review: This is the first pda I've purchased that wasn't a Handspring and I though long and hard about it. I wanted an MP3, color, expandable memory, smaller size. I got all that and more - I can play movies on this and cool games, etc.

The real problems I've had concern installing the Palm desktop, Clie style on my computer. I lost most of my previous info which was also on my work computer. I had to get creative with it and export it as a spread sheet then import it to the desktop software at home. The directions to do this weren't clear in the Sony literature - you have to go online and I didn't want to go through searching web site FAQ to get there so I improvised.

ALso, the import to Memory Stick operation worked fine at first at home on my computer and on my work computer as well but now it always freezes up on my home computer and I have to go to extremes to stop the device and resume other tasks. I sent a support email to Sony about a week ago and haven't heard anything back from them yet.

The one thing I miss about the Handspring is that I can't stick in Springboard modules to the Sony. There just aren't as many options for this Clie, I'd like to get a modem but there isn't one compatible that I can see, and there's only one camera option so far.

But the display is outstanding and I don't have a problem with the jog dial others have mentioned - I don't even use it at all. The "back" button is a great addition - how many times have I hit another application and lost the one I was working on? Now I can immediately go back with that one button - it's great!

The MP3 player is fine, too. I had read another review saying you need the magic gate stick so I got one but you only need it if you use the Sony supplied program to make them ATRAC format. MP3s save and play fine on the regular memory sticks - I got a SanDisk - cheap and works fine.

All in all, I like the pda, just wish the transition was smoother and over. I have had this pda about 3 weeks now and am finally settling in with it and look forward to the next couple of years (hopefully) enjoying it.

Summary: Love this Palm device, bundled with cool software
Review: The Sony Clie t665 is a really great tool! I have been an active Palm user for many years, and was agonizing over replacing my Palm IIIx. I primarily used it for the address book and calendar, being in the consulting business.

I thought about getting the newer model with the digitalcamera, but thought that it would be too big. I also considered Handspring and Kyocera converged devices.

The t665 is just right. It's small enough that I can easily put it in my pocket. The color screen is absolutely beautiful. I am a new dad, and can carry around pictures of my daughter which is a great bonus. The MP3 player is great, since it's easy to take it on the road.

I was leary that the battery life would be a problem, but I frequently go a few days between charging it up. I don't use the MP3 player every day, so I'm sure that it has an effect. I do look at the photos every day though. I did turn the brightness down, and have the screen turn off after 30 seconds. I purchased a USB synch/power cable from eBay. With this you can recharge from any computer with a USB port. I haven't had to use the cable yet, which is a statement that the battery life is actually better than reported (for me at least).

There are actually some very useful applications that are bundled from Sony. I found a few that I now use every day and I can't help showing the clie off.

I called Sony support for some guidance on which versions of Palm Desktop were support and the best strategy for synching my existing data. I didn't expect much response, but I got through to them within 1/2 hour and they gave me clear directions that worked the first time.

Summary: Best all around PDA out there
Review: This has been one of the better electronics purschases I've made. Memory is great, full of features (MP3 audio is great), no stupid thumb keyboard. I've thought of upgrading just because, but despite being two years old, no other PDA on the market is as functional as the T-665C. The only drawback - no way to add a WiFi card. COme on SOny! Build it, and they will come!

Summary: Fun Design Surprises!
Review: I've been a Palm Pilot user since they first came out, dutifully upgrading to the newest model every few years. I finally decided that I needed COLOR, so I bought the Sony Clie.

What I didn't expect was that in addition to getting color, I would wind up with an artfully designed PDA that is much easier to use than the Palm Pilot.

I love the look of the unit. Its brushed metal portions look so much nicer and richer than the straight plastic of the Pilot, and resist finger prints. It's very thin and light too.

One of the things I like best about it is the "jog dial" on the side. Using this dial you can quickly flip from screen to screen (especially nice for moving through your appointment book or phone book) using a single hand.

The backlit screen is much easier to read than my old black and white Pilot (a bonus for these over-40 eyes).

The best surprise was that the memory stick in my Sony digital camera is compatible with the Clie, so I can move it from my camera to the Clie and show my photos to my friends! I can also use my spare memory sticks from my camera as extra storage for my Clie, moving large applications off the Clie and onto the memory stick.

The only two negatives are:

1) Battery life. If you use one of the display-intensive features, like displaying a photo, you might have only 10 minutes of battery use. Playing games, I find I only have about 30 minutes of use. Because the batteries are not replaceable, you must recharge the unit in its cradle or using an AC adapter. Usually this isn't a problem because I just keep it in its cradle at my desk when I'm not using it, but for extended trips it means recharging every night in the hotel room.

2) The software that comes with it that lets you sync up with Microsoft Outlook to keep a synchronized calendar between your PC and the PDA doesn't transfer over the appointment location field. Since I mostly use the Clie to keep track of all my business meetings, I've been caught by this once or twice. (Running late, coming back from lunch, running to a meeting. But what meeting room is it in? Arghh! Have to go back to my office to look at Outlook on my PC to see.) I've overcome this by manually adding the location to the meeting description when I receive the invitation in Outlook, but you shouldn't have to do this.

Summary: awesome PDA/ Entertainment Organizer/ what-have-you
Review: Great buy. I got it for cheap and use it primarily as a MP3 player, and to read news and ebooks. If you plan to do all that, be ready to shell out another $65-70 bucks for a 256MB Memory stick otherwise it doesn't play MP3s. I didn't buy the obscenely expensive MS Pro (white ones) and I use a freely downloadable ripper (CDex) to rip my music CDs to MP3s. You have to make sure that copyright stuff isn't included in your MP3s b/c they won't play. Some weird Sony thing.
Build quality is super and its sexy as hell (its a Sony). The bundled audio player is pretty basic though and you can't do anything except turn bass on and off. I have yet to come across a better one, and if I do, I would install it promptly. SonicStage software for your PC is utterly useless, as is the Sony's ATRAC format for song compression (I hope someone from Sony reads this... why? why? why??). Most of the software that comes on the CD are trial versions, but there are plenty of great software (and free too) to download from a bunch of Palm sites. But know that the number of Clie-specific software is much less than Palm (Zire/Tungsten)-specific software.
The scroll button in the front of the Clie is too small for anyone to use (as you might have gathered from all other reviews), but Sony makes up for it with the very useful jog dial and back button on the side. I find the screen too slick, so I've put a high quality screen protector (highly recommended... but that's 10 bucks more) and can also comfortably use my finger as a stylus over it sometimes. I've heard people complain of battery life. But that is to be expected of a device so thin and light and having a great color display. If you're going on a long trip listening to music, don't use the Clie to read stuff at the same time and u can squeeze out 6 hours on a full charge (use the Hold button). If you don't use the backlight, the battery life between charges, even while playing MP3s, is very respectable.
I would also recommend getting a hard aluminum case (~$25...ouch) if you're a rough user and plan to bump your Clie on different surfaces. Feel free to contact me with any Clie PEG-T665C questions, at ospexy1@yahoo.com
Cheers and have a great 2004

Summary: Could be the Most Beautiful PDA there is!!
Review: I got this unit about 2 months ago at an excellent price ($149.00 new). I purchased it at a navy military Exchange store in Mountain View, Ca. Meaning the price that I got it for was exactly $149 because of the no tax policy. I've owned palm pilots before (Palm m105, Palm m130, then Palm 550) I wanted to go different ways but still get the excellence of Palm OS. So I saw this at the store (and for your info this is regular price at any military place from now on) and I got it.

I love this PDA it does everything that you want...personal assitant and entertainment! The look is sleek and matches its weight appropriately.

Some tips and add-ons to make it even better than it is:
1. Add Kinoma Player (free) and Producer ($). The quality is 10x better than the provided gMovie. Download cartoon episodes (The Simpsons) to fit 2 entire shows on a 128mb.

2. Get Documents to Go Premium($). You can review your drafts of a very important report rather than bring your bulky notebook computer. Use it like an editor for last minute fixups! Powerpoint is awesome!

3. To fillup some room on Datebook and remember important holidays and learn of some new ones - get Holidates2 ($)

4. Get SplashPhoto - view your pictures from your sony camera memory stick. SplashMoney - "So thats how much money I have." SplashID - get your plethora of info, serial, registration, usernames, passwords, etc organized!

5. Games - the best there is "Warfare Incorporated" The best sound, graphics, challenge there is in a PDA game. (has actual voice overs). Only bad thing is the huge memory it needs...store it in a card. Second place is "Billiards" - just like yahoo pool. Third - "Bejeweled" Fourth - the always popular "DopeWars"

6. Reading up on news and sports? Get avantgo (free). Pictures are a bit cluttered but clear enough and updated very often.

7. Make sure you get your free map from Mapopolis - this helped me a few times during my times in SF.

8. Battery Life (a happier life?) a. Keep brightness level exactly at 50% this gives you almost same level as 100% but saves you 30% on extended battery life. b. Turn off "Beam Receive" in Pref menu. Because if on - it searches for activity in the air every 2 min. c. When outside make sure you turn off the backlight (by holding down the off button) d. You can leave the T665c on the charger overnight, when the charge light goes off, there's only a very small trickle charge being delivered to the battery, whcih is probably helpful in the long run. I really like how my clie looks on the charger...very neat. Hopefully you got the matching cradle.

9. Purchase BugMe and exchange the memopad shortcut button to this handy application. You can now write your own short messages in your own handwriting.

10. To save a few K bits - delete any unneeded soundutility sounds (i keep about 5 of them only).

11. For your address book...get small size quality pictures for each of your collegues and friends and paste it on each of them. Also make a professional buisness card when you need to beam.

12. Finally to complement the beauty of the unit you will need to protect it without deceiving the look. Get the Metal Deluxe Case from InnoPocket that has the exact material finish and dimenstions of the T665c. It is made specifically for this clie with cut outs for volume, jog dial, sync, hold switch, and even memory stick! Check this site out for it: http://store.craytonelectronics.com/metdelcasfor4.html

Now the Bad:
1. Battery life is not great when you want to listen to music at the same time when your doing applications.

2. Can't delete some preinstalled software...like gMovie.

3. Not sure how to replace LiOn battery when needed.

This is a discontinued item...hopefully my tips will make your clie experience even better!

Summary: It's a shame that they are discontinued.
Review: I've own palms ever since they have have been made. This is certainly the best for its time and it would take a lot of improvements to make be buy another. I've bought a palm on avg. every 6 mos. But to the facts. The metal casing is a plus and adds to durability. The buttons are quite small and not really user friendly but thank god for the jog wheel. The screens is not the best but, the imaging is excellent none the less. One feature is the 20 ft range of the IR which makes the Clie remote its most unique feature and lots of fun at friends houses as well as you own especially if the wife keeps hiding the remote. I'm keeping this short due not being redunant.

Summary: An Outstanding PDA For The Money!!!!
Review: I was VERY pleased with my purchase of the Clie T665C. I bought it as a replacement for my Palm IIIxe. I am a consultant who travels Mon-Thu, so my review may concentrate on the travelling business person.

Here are some of the highlights:

(1) I haven't found the battery life to be a problem. I actually prefer it to my IIIxe, which would EAT up AAA batteries like crazy!! I always had to carry an extra set. With the T665C, I just need to get to an outlet. I can let it charge in the hotel overnight.

(2) I use Lotus Notes for e-mail, addresses, to-do's, calendar, and journal. This synchs up great with the T-665C using Lotus EasySync (not included).

(3) The audio player is a great accessory. I can copy audio files to the PDA and play them on the airplane, etc. As it has been stated before, you DON'T need a special memory stick, you'll just need to copy the audio files directly into the MSAUDIO directory of the memory stick using MS Import (included).

(4) I also very much enjoy the Mobipocket application (included). This application allows me to download news and business from FoxNews, Bloomberg, Newsweek, etc for FREE and read them on the plane as well.

(5) The screen, resolution, etc are much more than I imagined. I carry updated pictures of my family and they show up great. I also download short movies taken from my digital camera and can play them as well with the included software.

I would make this purchase again in a HEARTBEAT!!!
