Summary: Why is this gadget crashing after 2 days?!
Review: Initially loved it. Used for 2 days. I was playing Tiger Woods 2001 golf and a "fatal error" message popped up. The screen is so dark now that I can't read it. Even after removing the game and restarting the device, the clarity is gone. I'm returning it today. Very disappointed. Not sure what to buy now.

Summary: A Toy.
Review: Get serious, Handspring! I bought a Visor Deluxe (green) when they first shipped. I have had it for a year and tried to use it on rounds in my medical practice. I found the construction flimsy and not rugged enough for the hospital environment. Inevitably, one day it fell from my scrub pocket onto the floor. Although the unit looked okay, the touch screen didn't work from that point on. Tech support told me to return it for repair which I did. For $80, I received a refurbished unit since apparently they recycle them. I was a long time user of the HP200LX. When the Visor came out thought I was "stepping up" to the new palm technology. After experiencing the palm, I prefer my old HP. The HP200LX by the way has NEVER let me down even after being dropped several times. The HP200LX batteries also last about 3 months whereas the palm has only lasted about 20 days. For serious business, I'll stick with the HP200LX. If I want a toy, I'll pick up my Visor Deluxe.

Summary: Hardcore Road Warriors Will Love This
Review: I gave the Palm III XE a 5 star rating. So how can I give the Handspring Visor Deluxe a 5 star rating, too?

That's easy. I love them both.

They both strike a near perfect balance between usability, practicality and portability. The Palm III series seems to fill a niche occupied by early PDA adopters such as myself and business executives. Heck, it's almost part of the business uniform.

The Visor, however, appeals to a different crowd: Power users who, want greater expandability. Mac users, who find it's easier to use a Visor with their Mac. I even know someone who bought one simply because they "look cool."

The Visor has all the advantages of the PalmOS. There are literally thousands of software titles to run on it.

It's got all the advantages of the familiar Palm-type device. Anyone who has used a Palm before can essentially use the Visor immediately -- with a very minimal learning curve. And it's no problem if you haven't used a Palm before. The interface is highly intuitive and rather easy to learn. In five minutes I was up and running like a champ.

The Visor has the added advantages of native USB communication and the incredible versatility of the "Springboard" module. These modules allow the Visor to adopt an amazing number of roles: MP3 player, GPS, wireless PDA and even wireless phone. Of course all the familiar peripherals are also available. There are modems, keyboards, etc...

In my opinion, Handspring has taken the best handheld computing platform on the market and made it even better. I think it's great. It's well done. It's well made and it's easy to use -- even if you just want a simple electronic organizer.

If you're looking for a first PDA -- or want more expandability options than are available for a Palm III device -- I think you will like the Handspring Visor Deluxe.

Summary: A Piece of [Junk].
Review: Why oh why did I buy this instead of a new Palm? My old Palm worked perfectly. I've had my Visor less than a day and had to perform a dozen resets because it keeps getting fatal errors. Every time I sync - fatal error. My Palm worked so well. This is a stupid piece of junk. I'm returning mine.

Summary: Visor Deluxe
Review: I researched a lot of products before I bought my Visor Deluxe. It's one of the best PDAs on the market. It runs on the Palm OS so it runs the same applications as the Palm PDAs. What sets it apart from the Palm is the ability to expand using springboard modules. I'm big on electronics. I've bought all sorts of things and this is one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Summary: Great Handheld
Review: This is my first handheld and it is everything I thought it would be and more. Very fast HotSync operations (USB). Totally expandable. Cons: instructions only on CD, Not compatible with Palm.com upgrades.

Summary: Great Product
Review: The Handspring Visor Deluxe is just a really great product. Between the added memory (8 MB instead of the standard Visor's 2 MB) and SpringBoard port this is really the premier product in the Palm arena. However, in many parts of the country there is not yet a good wireless solution for the handspring -- unlike Palm wireless which works almost everywhere. So if wireless is important immediately, buy something with the Palm logo on it -- but if longevity is your thing, the Handspring is clearly a better solution because the SpringBoard port will allow it to expand for years to come!

Summary: A joy to use but a bit delicate for the task at hand
Review: I have had my Visor Deluxe in blue for about 1 1/2 years. Well I should say it is 1 1/2 years since I received my first Visor. I am on my 4th. It is a joy to use. Easy to input data, Grafiti is easy to use, the layout is simple, the included software is intuitive to use and the USB connection is so simple to set up even I could do it.

BUT..... The first one the case cracked along the back after about one month, the second one the screen went bad after three weeks, the third one the case cracked and now I am on the 4th, and it has a cracked case. I am not at all rough on the unit. I keep it in a case, place it in my desk draw at work and keep it out of harms way in general. I have never dropped one. The three with cracks all developed cracks in different places.

Handsprings customer service has been fantastic and they have happily sent replacement units each time. But one must consider the durability of something that is designed to set in the palm of your hand.

If I do by another PDA soon, I will purchse one with a metal case, like the Plam Vx or the Visor Edge.

Summary: Stick with a Palm
Review: I had been using my Palm III for a couple of years, I never had a problem with it. After my Palm got damaged, I decided to give Hnadspring a try. Big mistake, my Visor crashes constantly. I carry a paper clip with me to reset it. After just a few short months, I am retiring my Visor and going back to a Palm. I would recommend anyone who relies heavily on their PDA to do the same.

Summary: It's great and reliable
Review: I"ve had my visor for over a year now and have had no problems with it. I like the removeable cover since it can be placed behind the unit when you are using it and then snaps on when you need to protect it. The cover for the visor is much thicker plastic than the palms means my investment is protected inside my backpak or purse. I use the weekly planner daily since as a student there are always more things for me to do than I can remember. Other people have complained about the lack of flash ROM, however, I like knowing that I can get more memory or a modem attachment if I need it. I don't have any complaints about my visor and I've used it daily since December 1999.
