Summary: AWESOME!
Review: I used the original Pilot 1000 for about 3 months, and ran out of space memory-wise, and was frustrated about the lack of a backlight. After some searching, I found a great deal on the Palm III, and have loved it ever since. My organization in keeping track of my appointments and assignments has gotten so much easier, and I have not had one problem with it since I got it. I highly recommend this product, or the IIIx since the III has been discontinued. My girlfriend has the IIIx and it has a better display as well as more RAM for those of you who crave a full arcade to carry around with you.

Summary: Absolutely Changed My Life for the Better!
Review: This thing is amazing. I thought it was just an organizer, and who the heck needs another one of those? THE PALM PILOT IS SO MUCH MORE! I do use it to carry all my addresses and dates around, and they work fantastically well...I NEVER forget a date or anniversary or appointment anymore, since the Palm beeps me in plenty of time, every time. However, I also use it to track my stock portfolio, browse web pages offline (great in airports! ) and to read books (using the thirdparty document reader). I also downloaded an amazing chess game, backgammon, and craps programs! Whenever I say "I wonder if I can do this ... ? " with my palm, I'm almost always pleasantly surprized. The operating system is totally stable, and I won't be surprized if it wins the OS wars for small devices. Nokia is putting the palm OS in its phones, I believe the world will follow. I can't say enough about this thing. My memory has fled me now that my job has become so stressful, but the palm IIIx is now acting as my accessory brain. I love it!

Summary: Even my BOYFRIEND got organized!
Review: My boyfriend is the king of disorganization and I thought Palm III would be just another toy. I'm very pleased to say that the novelty of the Palm keeps him interested, but it's still very functional.

I have an old school Palm Pilot and I can say that this one has lots of improvements -- the stylus is much nicer and the screen is more sensitive. Also, the hard cover was a great development.

This is definitely somthing to consider that can be found at a reasonable price.

Summary: Mac users the poor cousins again
Review: I have a Symbol SPT1500 which is a Palm III with a barcode scanner. The combination of scanner and PDA is immensely powerful and I can see vast opportunities for it. The availability of a raft of cheap, small memory footprint utilities is the no 1 selling point. The bundled software is just adequate (although there are traps for young players when it comes to synchronising mail after deleting it on the Palm as I discovered to my loss.) We Mac users are the poor cousins though, with the software and hardware shipping only for the PC, and USB cables costing more. Most PCs have USB ports these days so why not support USB and IR out of the box ? Overall, I'm delighted !

Summary: From a Windows CE convert
Review: One small quirk, the screen is hard to read in twilight or very bright sunlight.

Other than that, I am very pleased with the product! I own a WinCE and was a very early adopter of it, but one thing I hate about that device, the apps are huge!!! That was one of my main reasons for switching, the fact that you can put a lot of useful apps (shareware pricing is great on some titles!) on 2 MB of memory. I am using EasySync with Lotus Organizer and it seems to work OK, altough sometimes it's a bit quirky. I might look towards the standard palm desktop software, since the interface is simple but effective. All in all, a great product. I am pleased with the shareware support and 3Com's web resources.

Summary: Great way to keep organized...
Review: Of course I've got all the important dates and addresses/phone numbers, the calculator comes in handy, too. What is really neat is all the programs you can download from the web. They nearly have programs for anything, the help you financially and socially. What I do recommend, though, is go to buy.com (not a URL for you, Amazon, that's the name of the company), because the same products are usually more 'accessible' to the common man over there.

Summary: Palm III professional Organizer is a Godsend for me.
Review: I realize there are quirks to this little machine. I do find its habit of eating batteries bothersome, but AAA batts are cheap. I have a disorder that has ruined my short-term memory and this electronic note-taker has proven its worth to me. Straight up - It could be better, but for the price, def worth it.

Summary: Ghastly, but better than the alternative
Review: The screen is murky and cramped, and the battery cover tends to rattle around. The Graffiti scrawl is slow and error-prone, much worse than my Newton was at recognizing my normal handwriting. The pen is awkward to extract from the slot, especially if you put the device in any kind of case; and if you don't, expect it to break. The whole thing feels like it came out of a Christmas cracker. It's also lost all my data twice in the last six months.

But, thanks to Steve Jobs, the only alternative is Windows CE, and that's even worse. I don't know, maybe I'll try a Palm V; that won't fix the software, but at least it seems like the hardware on the V might be built properly and the screen might be readable.

Summary: Don't leave home without it
Review: My Palm III has quickly become an indispensible tool in my business and personal portfolio. I keep birthdays with alarm feature and have them recurr annually. I also purchased the modem and use it to check and send email on the road. Being able to beam your business card is quickly becoming the status symbol of the 90s.
