Summary: My visor has helped me very very much...
Review: I purchased my Visor from amazon.com because I knew if I had a problem I could return it. But, I never had a thought about a return after recieving it. It was a breeze to set up. It took me under 15 minutes and I had no experience with "palm" units in the past. That is how easy it is... I have it set-up on 2 computers. One with the included USB cradle and one with a purchased serial cradle. Both work perfectly. I chose the deluxe version due to the extra memory and I am glad that I did. I have several programs that "hog" memory and the visor copes wonderfully! It is so easy to use... I do wish there was more documentation included but than no companies include any written documentation anymore. There is a very extensive help file.. and there are several good books available. The only book I didn't find helful was the "i didn't know you could do that book...." I added the thincom modem and it works GREAT with aol.. it is amazing to connect to the internet on a palm device!

There were a few issues I have... 1. You can't upgrade the palm OS version with a simple download. 2. I found their tech support somewhat weak and they don't have an 800 number. 3. There is now a visor version they call "faster" than this for about $$$ more. I think this ont is quite fast but I question which purchase, at this point, would be better. 4. I wonder at this point, with the faster unit, how long this one will be made. Despite these issues, I havent regretted the purchase for second! It is a wonderful help. The pre-loaded software is excellent. Datebook+ is a wonderful time manager with many views and I have heard that their are 5000+ palm programs written many of which should be compatable... More than I could even think of trying out. Its excellent!

Summary: A savior for the disorganized...
Review: For anyone who's wished for an organizer that can do it all for them. Get this one! For something merely pocket sized you get a memopad, to-do list, datebook, contact book, and the ability to do so much more!

I find myself using this thing to remember key appointments in my life. Also when I'm bored somewhere, I fire up one of the games I've downloaded, or using AvantGo (downloaded program) to check on the news lately.

The downside is occasionally the USB hotsync doesn't work right, requiring you to try a sync again. Once in a great while having to reboot your computer to get it to work. However this happens few and far between (maybe 1 in 20 hotsyncs). However hotsyncs are so easy, just push a button and voila you're synced up with Outlook!

In short, anybody who's got a life they consider complex should consider getting one of these. You won't regret it!

Summary: Visor rules!
Review: Pros: Runs PalmOS, more flexible than PalmPilots. Cons: All PDAs, not just Visors, are still expensive.

Have you ever had a Game Boy from Nintendo? Well, I would be surprised if someone told me that the creators of Handspring Visor did not get the idea for Visor from Game Boy.

Like a game cartridge, Springboard Module gives the flexibility to add functionality that is (not available in the PDA itself but) built into the module. Theoretically, Visor is infinitely expandable (Handspring's claim), albeit Visor can handle one module at a time. If only these modules were affordable. Since Visors (regular (2 MB), deluxe (8 MB), platinum (8 MB), prism (8 MB)) run on the same OS that PalmPilots run, not only can Visors do everything their PalmPilot counterparts can, they can also do a lot more (via Springboard Modules) that PalmPilots just can't.

Visors started out cheaper than PalmPilots (Palm has been lowering PalmPilots' prices since the introduction of Visors by HandSpring), but are a little bulkier than PalmPilots. No, don't get me wrong, Visors are still sexy and colorful.

I bought a Visor Deluxe from HandSpring six months ago. After exhanging it for two more defective units, I had to finally return it. A few months ago I got another Visor Deluxe--this time from Amazon.com. No problems so far, everything is working like magic.

If you are in the US (especially in CA), you can get them at Amazon.com...

If you are about to buy a PalmPilot, do not buy it until you've tried out a Visor.

Summary: Pleased with Visor
Review: Having spent considerable time reading reviews/opinions of all the avaiable PDA's it came down to the Visor or the Palm Vx. Price won out and I purchased the Visor.

Over the past month the Visor has performed flawlessly and I have not found it to have a "cheap feel" as some have mentioned. The memory accomodates tons of data and programs, it responds quickly, and in use is very intuitive. I have been very happy with every aspect of this product, though I have not had to deal with customer support.

My only complaint: the standard stylus is light and drags on the screen. Purchase an aftermarket stylus ( I bought Panache) -and get a good one - for much smoother writing and to avoid scratching the screen.

Summary: Could there have been a defective batch?
Review: I got the Visor in July, after doing quite a bit of research and not being able to locate any Palm IIIxe's at the time. I started playing with it at the office late one day, and learned the applications, how to write graffiti style, etc.

I got home and loaded the software and connected the cradle. I liked the fact that it was USB native. Upon trying to sync any info, the screen displayed gibberish and the Visor froze up. I had to remove the batteries and press reset quite a few times to get it to come back around.

I called tech support and they said I had a defective unit. I had...(somebody) ship me a replacement. It arrived within a few days, and I began using it. It worked like a champ. I especially like the CompanionLink software that works in conjunction with ACT and Palm OS devices. I'm a salesperson and keep all 1500 contacts on ACT and the ability to Sync them to the Visor along with notes and histories of events around each contact is invaluable. Hats off to CompanionLink!

All was well for about 3 weeks. within that time period I only had to reset the unit twice and even though I lost the data all was backed up on my PC. Eventually, however, I would freeze up almost every day, and sometimes losing my entire calendar in the middle of the day while out on appointments was annoying.

After talking to Handspring Tech support, I decided to return the unit and buy a Palm IIIxe. Tech Support didn't have a real explanation for my situation. I'm not saying that the Visor is a bad product, obviously based on the feedback here, but I can only think based on my experience and a few others, "Is there a bad batch?"

Summary: Attention Mac Users
Review: I love my Visor. I don't need to repeat all the praise the other reviewers gave. But I want to point out one thing no one else seems to have mentioned: Not only does it sync with a Mac, it will sync with an OLDER Mac! I have a Performa 6800/180 running Mac OS 7.5.3. (Yes, that old!) My Mac still works great and I've had no desire to upgrade. But older Macs and OS are usually left out when it comes to new products to use with a computer. Handspring did not forget us old-timers when it made the Visor. I did have to buy the serial cradle, but that was no problem. I also bought an "A/B switch" so I could have the cradle share the serial port my printer uses without constantly plugging and unplugging things. Again, no problem. And I have no problem syncing my Visor with my Mac. (The Visor comes with a Mac version of the desktop progam.) So not only do I keep my calendar, address book and do to list up to date, I also have no problem downloading programs to load on my Visor.

Thank you, Handspring, for not leaving older Macs behind!

Summary: The Perfect Little Handheld
Review: I'm 14 years old, and I've been saving my money up for a long time. I wanted a handheld that was the best, for the best price. After TONS of research, in all sorts of PalmPilots, PocketPC's, etc., I settled on my original favorite - the Visor Deluxe. My friend has one, too (orange), and now that I have one, we beam games and addresses and stuff to eachother. Green is really pretty, and has the same misty-green color as the pics on the site. The documentation is pretty limited, and most PalmPilot hardware add-ons and some accessories won't work, but all the software I've tried has worked fine! In terms of color, ice and green are the same as the web site shows them, orange is more of an iMac orange, and blue is a little darker.

In my opinion, the Visor is well built, perfectly functional, and easy to use (not to mention looks cool). You can get many free applications to do almost anything you like, and springboard modules to do the rest. If you're limited on a price (or even if you aren't!) consider a Visor!

Summary: An Excellent product at a good price
Review: The Deluxe Visor from handspring is an excellent product and because it runs on the existing palm OS there are already thousands of existing applications for the relatively new product. The visor was easy set up, took me about five minutes after putting in the batteries to find my way around. It took about another five minutes to install and let up the USB connection ten minutes after I took the visor out of the box I had it up and running.

The visor is also expandable with springboard modules that can let you transform your handheld into low quality digital camera or an MP3 player. You can also play video games from this slot on put in a modem and connect to the net. The 8 megs of RAM allow for more than enough memory to list thousands of addresses, memo's, emails, appointments and still leave you with room to add the necessary software to personalize your palm to suit your needs.

The Visor also comes with one stylist (so buy some extras if you tend to loose things) and a simple leather carrying case. I am very satisfied with mine and would recommend it for anyone who is looking to get rid of their paper organizer and replace it with an electronic one.

Summary: Palm or Visor?
Review: I tried a Visor Deluxe for a couple of days (I am a Palm user) and the quality is definetly lower than the palms, not only you can *FEEL* the difference but it usually crashes... I think the IIIxe is a much BETTER choice. Expansion slot? MP3?, well, I really dont see any future for that extra considering price, battery life, ..

Summary: poor accessory packaging and no customer service
Review: The visor is basically a palm. Unfortunately I do not have a USB port on my PC, so my visor is an island. Since the cradle is USB I cannot backup, hotsync, download software do it, etc. Handspring will gladly charge me extra for the serial cradle, I want to know why they are shipping connectivity that only half the population has instead of giving people the choice (serial or usb). Customer service has been of no help in allowing a swap of the usb cradle for a serial cradle. This is a rip-off! Handspring has now ignored 3 phone calls I placed re: this issue.
