Rating: Summary: awful Review: I was extremely disappointed in this device. I thought this would be easy to use, but it is anything but. I have only been able to get Hot Sync. to work once. I have spent hours trying to get this device setup, but I am simply going to trash it. If you are a new user, do not get this. The instructions are awful and the device is difficult to use. It gets NO STARS.
Rating: Summary: Great Product, manual recommended for beginners Review: I love my new Sony Clie. This is my first handheld. I have only had it for a few days, but I have already added on a number of applications. The white backlight makes the screen very easy to read. The backlight and the rechargeable battery made me opt to spend the extra $... and buy the SJ20 instead of the SL10. One misgiving: the documentation is poor to say the least. It was frustrating trying to figure out how to work the card, change system preferences, perform a hard reboot, etc. The sony site does have very helpful information. For those who are not always near the internet and for beginners a manual may be a good investment. For users who will play a lot of games or videos, you should opt for the color version. Sony adds Documents to go - so you can view Word files and Excel spreadsheets on the go. Perfect for when you are on the run, when you do not want to carry a large stack of paper, and when you need to make quick edits. Much easier than carrying a bulky laptop - and it comes free with the SJ20. Highly recommended as a basic handheld.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful_Easy To Learn Review: Everything is working fine. It is easy to use and easy to learn. Lots of memory and good price. It is very good looking. I love it so much
Rating: Summary: Works on Mac OS X! Review: I ordered the Clie SJ20 for my Macintosh running OS 10.2 . Above it states that it is not compatible with Macintosh. However, there is software called "The Missing Sync" that brings the Clié into the Mac fold. The software runs about $[money]. It has enabled me to sync with Palm computers Desktop for OS X (free download from palms site). I have also discovered that Apple's iSync software (along with Missing Sync installed in the background - you never know it is there) will Sync your iCal and Address book (iSync is a free download from Apple). Furthermore, there is a free mail.app conduit out there that alows you to sync your OS X mail to your Clie (another free download). It sounds like a lot of software, but when you have it installed it works automatically when you hit sync on your connected palm. I expect more conduits to come in the future for OS X, but the above listed make the Clie a decent choice for mac users. Sony's palms have the quality and edge that make them a good match for a Mac. The Screen resolution is wonderful and the product design is sleek and well thought out. 4 stars because I am disappointed in Sony not supporting the mac platform. If I can find all the software, so can they. Just bundle it up, pay the missing sync guy, and add to your consumer base!

Rating: Summary: Versatile, easy, inexpensive Review: First PDA, but I have used a variety of PIMs for years--this one, for the price, is perfect. With an excellent, compact and light Sony foldable keyboard, I use it for writing academic papers, for memos, notes, as well as the usual PIM stuff, and it is fantastic, synchronising easily with my main computer via the included Documents to Go software and Palm Desktop. I can do without my heavy laptop! The screen is bright and clear, and though it is a bit small, its resolution beats the other Palms I looked at, and in any event, the small size is a bonus for me as I carry it in a chest pocket. Highly recommended for anyone who is price conscious and feels they don't have to have colour--and then I would go for the colour version SJ30 anyway!
Rating: Summary: Best Bang For The Buck!!! Review: This is my first PDA so I did tons of research on Palms, Handsprings and Sonys. Handsprings are just way behind and are going for the higher end market now. Palms are nice and thin but are too wide for my small hands. Sony's PDAs are a little thicker but less wide and easy to grip. Sony's screen just blows away Palm's screens. The Jog Dial and Back button really speed up use. Contrary what one poster wrote the Clie does work with Mac - I have a Mac and it works fine!
Rating: Summary: I Love My Clie Review: I don't know what I would do without my Clie! I am fairly new to the PDA world. I did a lot of reading and comparing of PDAs before I purchased my first one which unfortunately, was NOT a Sony Clie. I had purchased a Handspring Visor Pro and shortly after I purchases it, I noticed that they were getting harder and harder to find. I was unhappy to hear that Handspring has put all of it's eggs into the Treo basket - but that is another story. The main reason I switched to the Sony Clie is that a friend of mine had purchased one and when I saw it's compact size, the handy jog dial, back button and detachable but convenient flip top screen cover, I was impressed. What really sold me however was the backlit display. With the Handspring (and most other PDAs I have seen) it is very difficult to read them unless you are in a "daylight" or bright light situation. Trying to read the screen in your average restaurant in the evening, was not possible. I also liked the very portable charging unit that came with the device. The Handspring and many other PDAs come with charging and syncing cradles, but they don't pack away very easily when you need to travel and want to be able to charge your unit while away from home. I would have had to spend more money to get a portable charger for the Handspring, while a very portable charging (and syncing) cable comes with the Sony Clie. I love my Clie - and recommend it to all who are looking. It has a lot of memory and benefits at a very good price (as far as PDA prices go). I have recommended the Sony to many friends already.
Rating: Summary: Handheld with style and good specs Review: Previously I owned a Handspring Visor Deluxe and I must say that this handheld is superior in many respects. It is small and stylish and being compatible with SONY's memory stick the amount of information you can store is greatly expanded. A nice feature of the SONY handhelds is the jog dial which allows you to scroll through adresses. The high resolution screen (320x320 pixels) is also a big improvement over older models. This model comes with a white backlight and should be on when viewing your screen unless you have this PDA in direct sunlight. Unfortunately, the screen without backlight being extremely dim. However, continued use of the PDA with the backlight on will allow you to use it for at least 7 hours without recharging, thus this should not besuch a drawback for the average user. This handheld does not come with a cradle, but does have a AC adapter that allows you to recharge your batteries as well as a USB connector that allows you to do hotsyncs to your PC. Note that this handheld is not compatible with MacOS. Bottomline: Great B/W PDA with very nice hi-res screen (be it with backlight on) that fits all your basic needs at a very affordable price.
