Summary: A PDA That Serves My Needs
Review: This is my first PDA device. Primarily, I wanted a PDA to replace all of the little Post-It Notes that I write myself as reminders of Things-To-Do. Sony's sleek look, reputation for reliable products and the factory ... mail-in-rebate helped me choose over other brands of comparable price. As well as all of the Amazon reviews in which customers recommended the Sony Clie PEG-SJ20 Handheld over PDAs in the same price range. I knew that I did not want to spend more ... for a Handheld since I only wanted a PDA to help me keep track of my "To-Do List." Suffice to say, this PDA has been good. I do wish though that the To-Do List on the PDA allowed for priority importance numbering of more than 1-5. I reviewed numerous other Handhelds on Amazon yet, since I could not wait for Amazon to deliver the product, I went to the store closest to me that Amazon said had this product in stock. I looked at the Sony Clie PEG-SJ30 Handheld to see if the ... color screen versus the SJ20's black-and-white screen would be worth the money; I noticed no difference, but would recommend that if you want a color PDA, get a PDA other than the Sony Clie PEG-SJ30 because the colors are hardly noticeable and when I compared the SJ30's color screen to other brand's color screens, the other brand PDA's had more vibrant colors. Bottom-line, I use my new Sony Clie PEG-SJ20 Handheld simply for my "To-Do List" and find its sleek thin designer shape looks cool too. I have set it up to "Synch" with my desktop computer (this took about 10 minutes to install from Sony's provided CD). I will be playing-around with the programs that provide Maps to my local area and will be using the "Documents To Go" program for my college papers. I plan to eventually step-up to a more robust Handheld but for now, the Sony Clie PEG-SJ20 Handheld serves my "beginner" needs. I would recommend the Sony Clie PEG-SJ20 Handheld as a "beginner" Handheld.

Summary: Better Then the Zire
Review: I have used both PDAs and the Clie is a better even with out the rebate. First of all the Clie has expanson slots and the Zire doesn't and the Clie has 13 more MB then the Zire. Some of the other features are a backlight and hi-res display and the zire comes with more then $30.00 of software. For gamers the Clie has enough memory to handle a lot of software and has 4 bottons. The Clie PEG-SJ20 is the best non-color PDA. You can't hotsync a palm and a sony on the same computer.

Summary: This thing is a POS!
Review: It's too bad that there is not a rating of 0 stars. I bought this PDA for my son for school last year and had to replace it three times due to it constantly breaking down. On top of having to replace it three times over the school year, and by the way, not from abuse, it kept losing it's memory. We had to constantly reload everything. Thank God for Active Sync. Don't waste your time or money on this product. Instead go with a reliable Palm Pilot or PocketPC.

Summary: Excellent Display but a little bulky and problematic sync
Review: It is a nice toy. The most I liked is its high res display and sharp text. The OS seems solid. It would be perfect if SONY can make it thiner and lighter. BTW, the intellisync is not working well. It ALMOST does not sync with my outlook 2000 contacts folder. I say ALMOST because it strangely syncs with a few of my odd contact entries. I could not find why though.

Summary: Impressive
Review: Very nice, easy to use. Basic. View excellent. Slim but a better case is recommended. Easy to sync. Easy to recharge. Better value with the rebate over the Zire.

Summary: I LOVE IT!!!!!
Review: I am in love with the Clie! I had a Palm IIIXE before this and had problems with it... I did not like the color of the screen, could not read writing because it was dark and I found the grafitti hard to write. With the Clie, it is a light colored, almost white back ground and the writing is crisp. It responds well to grafitti also. I love it!!! This item was rated #1 PDA in this months Consumer Reports and I have to give it a 5 Star reward!!! Go Sony!!!

Summary: First time PDA owner
Review: This is my first PDA.So I cannot really compare with other PDAs around but with the price and the features I bet that this is the best in low-end PDAs, absolutely much better deal that Palm and Handspring's PDAs.

Pros:
Jog-dial is a great feature for navigation.
Back-lit screen is another plus.
Includes DocumentsToGo so you can edit, view Word and Excel documents. This may be extreme for some people but it is definetely a great thing to have this software.

Cons:
Sony claims that battery lasts for a month for a 30 min without back-lit display, but in reality without back-lit display this gadget cannot be used, so battery cannot last a month.
Sometimes screen seems a bit slow in updating and retrieving things from the memory.

I think that this product really deserves 5 stars

Summary: Works 4 me!
Review: I am a graduate student and bought this handheld to replace my Palm Vx. My Vx worked great until it started randomly crashing and causing me to lose data. The Sony SJ20 has been perfect for me. I use nearly all of the features and software that are included and have not needed to buy any additional software. I did buy a 64 Mb memory stick and this has proven to be more than enough for me. Word, and Excel documents synch great with the Documents2Go software (provided). Without the backlight, it is difficult to read the screen (impossible in direct sunlight), but I always leave the backlight on and battery life has still been great. This makes me wonder what the point of the non-backlit screen is, but since the backlight works so well, this hasn't been an issue. Screen resolution is awesome compared to the Vx and thus I am able to carry around digital images of my family, etc to show others. I have had the Sony for around 6 months and I am perfectly happy with it. I would highly recommend it for students, or those not requiring/wanting color, MP3 player, WIFI, and all the other bells and whistles. This handheld is designed for practicality and it definitely delivers for a great price!

Summary: Perfect for College
Review: Let me start saying this, I'm new into PDA's so I decided to go with the CLIE PEG-SJ20 after long hours of research over the internet. The price for this unit is very decent and and its functionality makes it a very valuable tool for school and work. The size of this clie is simply diminute and the quality of the screen is remarkable. I use it in bed during the night, in the morning, in class at all times. The battery life is very long and I can easily go for a week without a charge. Let me say that I use it for more than 2 hours a day but about 3/4 of the time with the backlight off (yes you won't need it in a decently illuminated area).

Some people complian about the quality of the screen, I say it serves its purpose and it does it well. I don't use my CLIE for more gaming than some strategy games and I've no issues with the screen whatsoever. Let me add the fact that this PDA is NOT an entertainment system, if you are looking for such a PDA you will need to spend a lot more for it, but this is a serious tool for any person with a tight schedule (NO you don't need to know about computers to use this handheld)

Let me simply say that if you know how to use a cellphone you will do just fine with this CLIE. The expansion slot is extremely useful and even though the loading speed from the memory stick is a little slow it is not an issue for me (I use a 128MB memory stick).

It does have the standard functions of most PDAs and there is a ton of free software to download from the internet. Keep this organized and never forget a detail anymore, if you are serious about making your life a little bit easier try this product. If you don't like it returne it and get something else but trust me this little helper saved my life a couple of times over finals week. Don't buy it used simply because the price difference is too small to take a chance. Look for profesional reviews over the internet before you decide but beware that these people are using handhelds with the capabilities of [an inexpensive] desktop computer. The color display is not necessary and you will agree with me when you see your friends running out of batteries and you still have days to go.
