Rating: Summary: Thumbs down Review: I had to return two m105 units because of problems with the digitizer--text and other inputs were not being correctly read, which is a pretty serious problem. Besides that, the screen really is tiny and the unit feels more like a toy than a quality handheld computer. I wanted to love this model, and the web browser and note pad features are great, but I wouldn't recommend it. I eventually got a Palm VIIx and love it. It's a much better value for the money.
Rating: Summary: Good Value Review: I needed a replacement for an old data bank which died, so I did some research and ended up with the Palm m105. I couldn't be more happy with it for that purpose. The hotsync is great for backups, the windows software is above average.(don't forget to check for the update at Palm's web site) It's cost is higher than the m100 but it comes with the sync cradle and has 6 megs more memory, which allows me some 3rd party software, including games.(Tons available on the web) It fits in your palm better than any others I've seen, has a window for a quick time check, and is customizable with kewl face plates! I can't imagine needing any more than this. This is one great PDA for the price. Of course, I was just looking for a data bank.
Rating: Summary: Holding My Brain In My Hand Review: This little gadget, to me, falls into the same "I-Don't-Remember-How-I-Lived-Without-It" category as the cell phone, the Internet and sattelite TV. I got mine because I was desperate to find something that would help me keep track of dates, phone number, and tasks, and that I would actually use. For better or worse, I spend the majority of my life in front of a computer screen so it was a perfect marriage to have something I could carry with me, and synch with my computer at home and at work. I bought mine from Franklin Covey, so it came with their famouhs planning software, which has been a lifesaver for me. I can carry tasks over from one day to the next effortlessly, and plan my day or my entire week with ease. And anytime I need to know where I'm supposed to be or what I'm supposed to be doing (that information that just doesn't stay in my brain) I just pull out my Palm Pilot.I went with the Palm rather than one of the Handspring PDAs because I didn't need all that expandability. I already have a digital camera, and a cell phone, and don't need an MP3 player. For the memory-deficient or anyone needing a little more organization and time management, I highly recommend this.
Rating: Summary: Love it! Review: This is my first PDA & I was looking for something I could get into affordably until I saw how I'd like it & how much I would actually use it. I probably spent way too much time trying to decide which model to purchase, but I'm SO glad I went for this one. It's easy to use & seems to have all the memory I'll need for quite some time. I do wish that it was upgradable so I could go to the latest version of the Palm OS software, but I can live with what it has. I've downloaded several programs for it & it is really becoming a help to me. I can keep track of all the lists I need to. Wish they'd had these back when I was in college for taking notes on. I also bought the Palm portable keyboard for it & that makes it really easy to enter data quickly. I highly recommend the device!
Rating: Summary: A LITTLE SURPRISE Review: The Palm m105 is nice improvement on the Palm IIIe, which I currently use. The buttons and stylus feel more ergonomic and the additional calendar features available in this new OS are clever. I have been tinkering with it for a few days now and I like the new handheld. I do have a few complaints, however. The design of the new Palm m series system prevents backward compatibility with the older III series cradle and the older III series handheld is not compatible with the newer cradles. This design 'feature' compels families with different generations of Palm products to swap out cradles on a single computer for desktop sinchronizations. The second design 'feature' is the serial port connector that comes standard with the purchase. The rise of USB years ago quickly diminished the use of serial connections. I own a Mac G4 and it lacks a serial port connection. This design anachronism is silly and means that buyers won't have access to their computers without the purchase of an adapter. That's the kind of little surprise I didn't need.
Rating: Summary: L O V E--T H I S--P A L M!!!!! Review: I absolutely LOVE my new Palm. I ripped it out of the box when it came. I couldn't wait for Christmas! I've programmed everything, and am using it several times a day. It's very user friendly to set up, and use. I think this may actually get my very unorganized (...) in gear!!! I was the sticky queen with notes written all over. I was always going someplace and forgetting my list. Now everything is all in one place. I have used it at the grocery store and checked things off as I went along. I have lists for (local retail stores) etc. Everywhere I go I'm all organzied. How did I live without this earlier...!! This is a great beginner one.!!! If you are considering getting one, DO IT! what a life saver. I've even added some other software stuff on there to use also. How easy! BUY ONE!!!
Rating: Summary: It's great.... Review: I don't see what the whole 'small screen's bad' thing. It's only maybe a micro-cenimeter smaller than the m100! It doesn't bug me at all. I've had my m105 for a few weeks and I still haven't even used up even half of my memory. 8MB is wonderful, much better than the 2MB that the m100 had to offer. I think this is electronics at it's peak, it doesn't get any better than this!
Rating: Summary: Unfortunately It's A Palm Review: It's an unavoidable part of the aging process. If you are over 40 years old, every day that passes it's getting harder for you to see small print in dim light- even with proper glasses. Although this Palm does everything I need it to do, and pretty darn fast, the display leaves a LOT to be desired. I purchased this Palm because I need to run a drug data base for doctors called "Epocrates." Most of the time I am selecting drugs from a very long pick list which runs from the top to the bottom of the screen. The font appears to be about 6 point- same size as most other text displayed on this Palm. Often lighting is too low to allow the screen to be read but too bright to derive any benefit from the backlight. This results in having to chase down some brighter light. These display problems absolutely do not exist with the HP Jornada line. You can buy a Jornada with a colour display and twice as much memory (16mb) for about ($) more. The Jornada can accept memory upgrades and operating system upgrades. Moreover, a Jornada will do anything a Palm can do EXCEPT run Epocrates.... But, if you have 20 year old eyes and want to save ($) and don't care about colour displays and don't want to ever upgrade your operating system or memory, then the Palm 105 is a capable, though limited product. Having used a Jornada for some time now, I really find the Palm line disapointing.
Rating: Summary: Very nice for the money! Review: I didn't even know what a PDA was a week ago, now I've got my own! This unit was so easy to learn to operate. I had no problems with installation and set up. I downloaded several applications and am very happy with my ability to read eBooks. (I'm already working on the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes!) My only complaint would be that the cover is really flimsy, I know it won't last long around my two little boys. But, for the money, you can't go wrong with this unit!
Rating: Summary: Husband wants to trade his IIIxe with me for my m105! Review: My husband has a Palm IIIxe that he received from his office. It was required, and he and I have never seen a PDA before. After we played around with it, and learned all about it, we really loved it! I saw the m105 and wanted to get an entry level PDA for myself. The price was right, and very competitive with other companies (less expensive in some cases)! I have grown to love my m105. It has all the space/memory I need (8MB), plus the palm body glove I bought is wonderful. My husband's IIIxe is also 8MB, but he likes the clock feature on my palm, and is impressed with its capabilities as well. I highly recommend this PDA especially for those who have never had a PDA. It is a great little tool, and has organized my appointments and my son's sports activities, dentist appointments, etc. I am looking for a program to add for bank account organization and other extras. If you are shopping around like I was, I think this item is more than worth the price for the benefits you receive! The tech support is great too (90 days free support).
