Rating: Summary: The Best Basic PDA Review: The Palm M105 was my first PDA, and I've been using it for about 4 months now. It's been a fantastic organizational tool for me. It's eliminated the need for me to use a paper-based organizer. I believe this is the best PDA for anyone who needs a simple organizational tool. The 8 MB of memory is more than sufficient, and the price gives you the most bang for the buck of any PDA. I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to get started with a PDA.
Rating: Summary: Woefully out of place in today's market Review: Palm will soon discontinue this and continue to lower the price to free these from their inventory, so if you are a PDA user, or already have one, stop reading and find yourself a more worthy product. This is a "poor man's" PDA with all the basics and absolutely no frills. The screen is tiny by any comparison, and the chunkyness of this device hurts it most of all. The reverse backlight is devastatingly hard to look at, and strains your eyes terribly. Basic models from Sony today carry 16mb of Ram and built-in expansion, this has 8 with no expansion, and quite possibly the worst screen ever manufactured for a mass produced handheld. Stay away, I am glad I did.
Rating: Summary: Very useful, not very versatile. Review: OK, what do you do when you need a PDA and you don't have a lot of cash? You buy this completely forgettable Palm device, use it as a stop-gap measure until you can afford a decent Pocket PC or Linux based PDA. Palm has pefected the calendar and address book features of their handhelds (they thought them up and have the most practice after all), but the lack of versatility and connectivity with other windows programs makes this Palm a sorry purchase.
Rating: Summary: The screen's small, and it feels cheap Review: I bought an m105 to replace an old Handspring Visor; I've also used a Palm V. Of the three, the m105 feels "cheaper" then the others when I use it - perhaps not surprising given where it sits in Palm's product line, and its all-plastic body with removable cladding. Out of the box, I damaged the somewhat cheesy cover hinge while putting it onto the PDA itself, and after a month of use, the hinge is starting to get floppy. Also, the screen is quite a bit smaller and harder to read then my Handspring - you might want to take a look at an actual unit before making the purchase, just to make sure it won't make you squint. Those negatives aside, the m105 does give you a PalmOS handheld at a reasonable pricepoint. Moving my existing data to it was a breeze, and version 3.5.1 of the operating system offers features that my Handspring didn't have.
Rating: Summary: Palm m105 Review: Lost my handspring visor, which I loved, but it had a few bugs (I had to return the first one I had), so I decided to try the Palm brand. The m105 was considered comparable, but... it's plastic and light (a benefit I suppose) but feels really cheap. Also, the screen is considerably smaller than the visor. And what seriously annoys me is that the leather case blocks the stylus so it's difficult to get out (the stylus slot is on the back of the unit). And the velco tabs don't feel nearly as secure as the visor case, which locks into the sync slot. These are all "cosmetic" details--it works fine (aside from the small screen) but they're enought to bug me.
Rating: Summary: A shoddy piece of plastic Review: I was generally happy with this product when I first purchased it; it provided (at the time) the latest version of the PalmOS, a reasonably fast processor, and a small footprint for a reasonable price. I did have reservations about the power button, which didn't always work. Well, lo and behold, the digitizer is now not reading the graffiti correctly: it won't read 'i's, and it can't read the stylus when it touches certain areas of the screen. My recommendation: shell out more for a better model; don't get burned by this poorly-constructed product!
Rating: Summary: A 18 year old electronic nerd Review: I wanted to buy a handheld to have a better place to keep track of important dates, to-do lists, etc. I didn't need email, a color screen, or anything else that jacks up the price considerably. Before I bought this, I was using a little paper day planner (that you can usually find in the school supply section) to write down everything. My PRO'S and CON'S list comes from comparison to that. PRO'S: +for what I needed (which was minimal, but good for a high school/college student), the price was very manageable. +Small, lightweight, fits inside my purse +has everything I needed just to keep track of school/social/personal events, homework, addresses, etc. +haven't had any technical problems with it (so far...3months) CON'S: -compared to my paper day planner, takes a considerable amount of time just to log in something. When a teacher assigns homework, I used to just whip out my day planner and pen and jot it down quickly, then leave class. Now I have to turn on my handheld, take out the special pen thing, and either go through the process of bringing up the keyboard option, or trying to do the graffitti, which is hard and then I usually write the wrong letters, etc. I'm usually the last person out of class, just because of the amount of time it takes to write down a single assignment. This is my only con, but for me, it's a big one. In fact, I'm considering getting a paper day planner again next year, and just using my handheld for social/personal use.
Rating: Summary: Fine product until it doesn't work ... Review: The print on the screen is tiny, but the m105 handles many tasks well. Unfortunately, mine stopped working properly in about 3 months, and after a run-around from the support folks -- who offered to charge me $25 to prove it was really broken -- I'm looking forward to getting a "factory-reconditioned" Palm in return for the brand new one I bought so recently. I'd look elsewhere before purchasing another Palm product.
Rating: Summary: Student's Hand extension Review: I have owned a Palm m100 for 1.5 years now and love it. All my friends always ask, "can i use ur palm" at lunch, which i allow when they're beside me. It has all the features of a standard organizer and more. Love it, buy it! Great value! Ac
