Summary: Money Well Spent
Review: The Palm V is a huge improvement over the Palm III in its more wieldy size, thinness, increased legibility and greater ease in writing. The only PDA you need consider. . .for now.

Summary: Excellent Tool, Well Worth the Money
Review: The Palm V is a great tool! The 2mb is defintely enough memory, have no fear of running out. I have several extra programs added on to my Palm, and I still have 81% of my memory free. The data entry is easy, and the overall ease of operation is outstanding! I recommend this to anyone who lives a busy life--it is great to have addresses, to do lists, schedules and more at your fungertips! Also, coordinating your Palm V with desktop Microsoft Outlook (or other similar desktop organizing tool) is incredibly easy. A piece of advice: invest in a good protective case for the Palm...it adds to peace of mind.

Summary: Stylus problem
Review: The Palm V has all the features I would like but I hesitate to buy it because the stylus is too stiff and difficult to pull out and use. Unless this small but important feature is rectified, it continues to be a sore point for women like me - I have broken my nails trying to use my husband's Palm Pilot V. In the meantime, I will treasure my old version.

Summary: Great Item
Review: I was skeptical about using the Palm, but once I started it quickly became indispensible. I have eight large rolodex files on it plus tons of memos and 'to do' items. The 2mbyte of memory is still handling it with no problem. .........GIVE IT FIVE STARS!

Summary: A tool that will pay for itself...
Review: I bought one of these for my husband as an early Father's Day present, and he loves it. He says "because it's small and convenient, it's always there so you can make quick notes as needed. It's perfect for keeping track of incidental expenses much more easily than fumbling with notes and remembering things.

Another nice feature is that using the HotSynch connection, the PP easily transfers information back and forth from computer to the PP itself. This is especially effective when one uses Outlook, and the PP will even allow you to write and store email which will automatically be sent later, if you choose."

He loves this thing, uses it all the time, and it certainly makes him more organized. His last word on it is:

"I should have bought one a year ago!"

Go for it folks, you won't be disappointed.

Summary: I love it, but. . .
Review: I bought one of these several months ago, and it's truly helped me get and stay organized. I always have the numbers I need with me, I'm never (well, almost never) late for meetings, and the calculater and other features are handy. Unfortunately, I did start to have problems with the Palm a few weeks ago. It was not responding to the taps with the stylus. This can be pretty frustrating when your trying to retrieve information in the field. Once notified, however, 3Com will quickly ship out a refurbished Palm to replace the faulty one and they also send a preposted box to ship back the damaged Palm and no cost to you. That goes a long way in diminishing any frustrations. Unfortunately, I am starting to experience the same problem with my new/refurbished Palm. As much as I depend on this great little machine, I hope this is not a trend.

Summary: Worth Far More Than You'll Pay!
Review: My Palm V has worked flawlessly since my purchase in September of 1999. The device is very well made and is one of the few electronic devices I've purchased recently that fully delivered on its promise.

On a Windows 98 laptop, the synchronization worked flawlessly the first time out-of-the-box and every time since. I have also successfully (i.e. without glitch) upgraded the OS so that the HotSynch is faster.

I don't normally rave, but my Palm V is everything I expected and more. I have found it to be both intuitive and reliable. It is rugged (I have dropped it on concrete, and it has been rained on countless time, albeit briefly) and very easy to use.

I had initial concerns about the amount of memory, but those concerns have been allayed. In addition to all the addresses, appointments, and emails of a busy MBA student, every day I download: auto.com, Bloomberg, Business Week, Fodor's (Chicago), ExploreZone, The Financial Times, Hoover's IPO Update, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and TheStreet.com. And I still have more than 30% of my memory available.

Summary: Upgrade?
Review: For some of you who might be in the same boat as I was in a couple of days ago:

I used my Palm III to the point where the graffiti pad had slight scratches in it and it would no longer correctly recognize letters in memos, which is primarily what I use it for. Since the warranty had run out, I was thinking about upgrading to a Plam V instead of paying the repair fee. However, someone else lower in this list mentions the company CIC and a software called Jot. They offer free sample downloads and have programs to allow you to write on the whole screen and not just in the Graffiti area. Thus, I am able to avoid the area of my screen that no longer functions as well..the software is a nice alternative to repairs or unnecessary upgrades.

I only mention this because anyone who uses his or her palm enough is bound to run into this frustrating "scar tissue" problem. Tom

Incidentally, I rate the Palm V, which I test in stores with four stars since they really should improve this problem and there is no improvement in Graffiti technology between the Palm III and the V.

Summary: What are you waiting for?
Review: It makes my life so much easier. We only have one life which happens to be split between home and work. With the Palm V I'm able to keep my children's litle league games and business appointments all at my fingertips. I never seem to miss important dates anymore.I also have phone/email numbers & addresses avaialble all the time. I used to use a daytimmer at work but rarely carried it around at home. The Palm pilot fits in your pocket is easy to use and keeps my stress level down by not missing the important events- my families!

Summary: Poorly place power button
Review: I was forced to buy the aluminum case for my P-V because the power would consistently come on while it was in my pocket.

If you intend to carry this around as a pocket device, you'll be stuck with investing in a case... beware.
