Rating: Summary: Re-charging batteries Review: I just bought a Palm Vx (just like the Palm V, but with more memory). While I must say that its one of the better purchases I've made in a long time, I'm dissappointed in the battery Charger. Its sold with only a 110 Volt charger. Knowing that this product is used by many who travel, this is a huge oversight. I live in Europe, and excitedly plugged my charger in. I soon heard the "pop" of the current. I unplugged it before any damage was done to the Palm itself, but the charger was destroyed. I've never bought a "travel appliance" before (laptops, etc.) that weren't set up for both 110 and 220 Voltage. Luckily, I was able to find the Travel Kit locally, which includes a charger that is rated from 100-240 Volts. In some locations though, this would have been impossible, and I would have been stuck with a Palm that I could not keep charged. With this Travel Kit on the market, it shows that Palm is aware of the issue. My feeling is that Palm, aware of the need, purposely did not include this 100-240 Volt charger so that they could pump up sales for the above mentioned Travel Kit. In this age of ever increasing corporate profits, I truly believe this "oversight" was done on purpose. This issue brings my rating down from 5 Stars to 3 Stars.
Rating: Summary: You got to have one Review: My wife bought me this Palm V as a birthday gift. I fell in love with it from the first day. It has almost every function I need as an organizer. I even use it as an morning alarm clock. It's so compact and light, I just put it in my pocket and have it with me every minutes. I also like Palm's customer support. I had a problem with my Palm because some moisture leaks in. I called Palm and they sent a replacement one in a week.(I was disorganized for a week). Now my brother in law has one too. He love it just as I do!

Rating: Summary: Great Handheld Review: I've had my Palm V for over a year now. A lot can be said about this device, especially after having it for more than a year. 1) The price of this unit has come way down. When I purchased mine it was retailing for $450. 2) When I initially purchased the Palm V, I debated over whether 2mb of memory was enough - of course with the Vx not out at that time and the IIIx being too bulky for my liking, I felt I had no other choice. The 2mb of RAM is definitely a hinderance, especially with several new programs out like Vindigo and Avantgo that allow you to download listings for restaurants, night life, shopping, news, etc. each time you hotsync. I have, however, managed to rotate in and out different programs as to make the best use of the memory. 3) The style and weight are without question the most attractive of what is currently available (except for the Vx which is the same) 4) The internal rechargeable batteries are a strong selling point and probably the number one reason why I would buy another Palm V or Vx should anything happen to this one. I have gone two weeks of continous use without recharging and still had a quarter battery life left. I normally leave it in its hotsync cradle/charger at night to regain a full charge, however, I have been told that about two hours is all it needs. The following could be said of all Palm models: 1) The Operating system is excellent. I have had no problems whatsoever with the operating system despite putting it through fifty different programs in the past year. 2) The software available (included, freeware, shareware, etc.) will meet almost everyone's needs. Overall, this is an excellent organizer and one that would have received five stars if it had more memory. If you do not plan to install a lot of other programs onto the handheld at once, then buy this handheld. If you are interested in having a lot of different programs then purchase the Vx. Either way, the Palm V series is an excellent choice that is stylish, economical, and above all a very well manufactured product.
Rating: Summary: Pocket PC is the Way to Go Review: For a comparable size and price, the Compaq Aero 1550 has far greater functionality and 16 MB memory. The Aero is a Pocket PC and has a voice recorder, audio jack, MS Office software, and a Compact Flash port.
Rating: Summary: Bad Quality Review: Im quite dissapointed with the Palm V , because it not even been six months and the green power button on the top to switch it on , does not work. I have to push it hard and push it several times before it comes on. I hope they fix the fault soon, cause I will not buy another 3com product again till they fix this.
Rating: Summary: nice interface but overated device.... Review: Over the last years I went from a Nokia Communicator Phone-Pda, to a Nec Mobile Pro 400 Windows CE and ultimately to a Palm V (actually Palm III with a V upgrade). I must say the Palm isn't my favourite among the above mentionned PDAs. On the Plus side: The interface is very pleasant to use, it is small in size and easy to write while standing (unlike keyboard devices), the hot sync synchronizes seemlessly with your address book, email etc and there are many software available as well as website where you can subscribe to channels or download information straight to the Palm. On the minus side: Although it is a nice device to keep diary and track of your expenses etc., the lack of keyboard means that to enter any long piece of text is laborious. Consequently, it you are expecting from your Pda to be able to, say type an email or some notes while on the road, this is the wrong device. There are many software around but if you examine it more closely, many are not very powerful. For instance, I was very pleased to be able to download a map from mapquest, but without the ability to zoom or search the map it is of limited use. Palm users are often excited by the possibility of downloading email from the inbox. With my previous Nokia communicator, I could download (and send) email from the internet using my regular ISP (Unlike Palm VII which requires a proprietary system subscription) so to download emails from my PC only fails to appear as a very useful to me. I was also irritated by the fact that by default, it download all emails in the inbox folder of outlook while synchronizing which I had to delete one by one. I know it is possible to buy a keyboard but the keyboard being too large to be carried, I don't see the point of that. Conclusion: If you like elegant and simple to use devices (i.e. if you are a Mac user for instance) the Palm may be for you, especially if you intend to use it mostly to keep your address book and diary. If you seek a PDA also to type notes, use interactive maps and generally expect more than a electronic diary, I would recommend a Psion, Windows CE or the wonderful and versatile Nokia Communicator phone.
Rating: Summary: Runs my life Review: This is a great product - it literally runs my life from the time I get up, go to meetings, and go to bed! Excellent hotsync function and tons of user friendly applications on the net. A couple of drawbacks - runs out of memory too fast, and the screen scratches pretty quickly too. I bought a screen saver film to protect. Cannot even imagine hauling huge day-runner books anymore!
