Rating: Summary: Palm V is Fantastic Review: My Palm V is my 3rd Palm Pilot. I started out with the Pilot 5000 which I later upgraded to the Pilot Pro. I then bought the Palm III last year for the backlight. However, the Palm V can actually fit in your pocket and has an great look and feel. The only downside is the loss of the backlight feature from the Palm III. The so-called backlighting of the Palm V is a joke. However, I found that I didn't use the backlight that much and the new form factor, the rechargeable battery and the improved readability of the screen make it a worthwile upgrade.
Rating: Summary: Moved up from Palm III to Palm V, and haven't looked back! Review: I bought a PalmPilot Personal a year or so ago and then up upgraded it to Palm III capability (via the Palm 2MB upgrade), and was extremely happy with it. When 3Com started selling Palm Vs at the JavaOne conference this year, I just couldn't pass it up. The sleeker design and lighter weight, coupled with the built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries and crystal-clear display, all combine to make the Palm V the ultimate PDA. Get one!
Rating: Summary: It's the same screen as the palm IIIx, and less RAM Review: If you like the silver case on the palm V, and you think that is the reason to buy it, then go ahead, but you will later be wishing that you had bought the IIIx, which has the same screen (watch for streaking problems), more memory and takes all the same accesories as the rest of the palms/pilots. The V has then fancy case, and the rechargable batteries, but not much else over the IIIx. If you want to look slick with the IIIx, you will already (when you get news and email and web pages right in your hand.) And you will be much happier with the larger capacity of the IIIx also. (just a hint)
Rating: Summary: Not good for travelling Review: The backlit is awesome and so is the contrast. But I was very very disappointed with the fact that AC adaptor is only 110 volts. They've removed the battery to make it thin, but it's now very hard to carry it on long trips. You have to buy a travel kit from them for another $50 bucks...I don't see why they need to do this.
Rating: Summary: I love this tool! Review: I've finally found an electronic organizer cool enough to leave my Franklin planner at home. I've tried several other electronic PDA's and all have fallen short. Whether they go through batteries too quickly, cannot sync with outlook well enough or just aren't reliable enough. This one finally fits the bill. The fact that the charging stand and synch cradle are now one unit is way cool.
Rating: Summary: beware the new serial port - old peripherals will not work Review: One important con not listed above is that, to make this unit so slim, they changed the serial port on it. If you are upgrading from the older design, and you own peripherals (like the modem or a GoType keyboard) watch out. They won't work with this particular unit.
Rating: Summary: I've been saved and reborn! Review: I've dumped an 8" X 10", 5 lb headache. Halleuah! This thing is great! I'm still learning the ins and outs but to date -- I'm reborn and never going back to paper! The environmentalist in me is in-love!
Rating: Summary: Increase your memory to 2.8mb Review: Hi,Get Flashpro 1.05 to increase your memory from 2mb to 2.8mb. The extra 830k makes a whole lot of difference. Chiao!
Rating: Summary: This unit is junk... Review: This thing keeps crashing on me. I've lost my data on 4 occations. And don't bother to call tech support cause they shove you off the phone without any real help. (help desk hun,I don't think so) I waited for 25 minutes on my dime just to get told to reinstall the soft ware when my unit was not accepting data. What a joke. I got my money back and bought a sony..
Rating: Summary: A good product, but I feel kind of ripped-off... Review: I was VERY disappointed to receive my Palm V and discover that its AC Adapter only support U.S. (i.e. 110V) current. If you want to travel to any other part of the world (where they use 220V) and will need to recharge your Pilot, you have to spend $50-60 more for another AC Adaptor that the rest of the world gets free. This is just plan CHEAP of 3Com, especially on a device designed for mobility. So beware if you plan to travel with your Palm V...add at least $50 to the price you expect to pay for it!
