Summary: SUMMARY: I'll stick with my Palm III
Review: I'm really grateful to amazon.com for providing these reviews, and
to customers who have told me that the Palm V:

1. Turns itself on in your pocket,
2. Can't recharge on 220 volts without a pricey accessory,
3. Has very poor support from 3COM once you buy it,
4. Crashes alot for some users,
5. Doesn't work very well with the Mac,
6. Doesn't have enough memory, and
7. Isn't backlit. (The palm III is hard enough to read.)

I hope the people at 3COM read this stuff. If they do, and use the information, I'll buy a Palm VI when it comes out. I use the Palm III which is not quite ready for prime time, but the Palm V doesn't sound like it's worth the money.

Summary: Sexy looking but not the best value
Review: I admit I'm not the best judge, because I own the IIIx, not the V, but I have a friend who owns the V, and I just thought I'd share the fact that I don't regret my decision. For $100 more, all the V gives you are those (admittedly fabulous) looks. The III-series Pilots are already pretty lightweight (dunno about you, but my *wallet* is thicker than my Palm Pilot, and not because I'm rich), and the IIIx screen is very readable -- an improvement over the old Palms, including the old III -- and only a shade less bright than the V's. What the V does offer you is less memory, no way to expand it, and no way to re-juice your PDA on the road if it runs out of gas and you don't have the adapter, an outlet or the time to recharge; I don't think a $3 pair of AAA batteries once a month is an exorbitant expense. I am a diehard devotee of all Palms, and you could hardly go wrong buying any of them, but I think the IIIx is a smarter first-time purchase.

Summary: Problems crashing
Review: I bought a Palm V from Amazon and thought it was defective because it crashes consistently. Every time it has been left off for more than twenty minutes, it requires a soft reset to get it going. I thought it was defective and asked for a new one. The second unit Amazon sent me does the same thing. Does Amazon have a bad batch or does this seem like a consistent problem with others?

Summary: The PALM V is really great!
Review: I would highly recommend the PALV device. I had a hard time choicing between the PAMM V and IIIx, maintaly because of the fact the the V does not have a Minstrel cradel CPDP modem available for it yet. But one will be coming out later this year so I went for it. The system is great. Would love to have one.

Summary: Not such a Hot PDA
Review: the Palm V is not all that 3COM made it out to be. the backliight is not so great, and when syncing the devicee with my PC , the PALM ran out of Space!!!

Summary: Quite impressed!
Review: I couldn't decide whether to buy the Palm IIIx or the Palm V, the main concern being the space. I had heard that 2mb on the Palm V was more than enough, but was still not sure. I ended up purchasing the Palm V, and let me tell you...2Mb is a lot of space! I still haven't filled it up, and i have installed many games and other applications. One problem i have encountered is that it seems to crash 20% of the time. Other than that, it's slim, light, and excellent!!

Summary: !!!Palm V
Review: This is a fine PDA.....i have used it several months without a problem...those who complain about the 110V adapter must not travel much.....(i.e. i have a voltage converter :-)....the rechargable battery is a VAST improvement over replacing batteries...i would rather pay the reasonable price for the adaptablity of 3Com's Palm Organizers, than the exorbatant price of the Windows (Microschlong) CE organizers that have limited features.....

Summary: A Must Have Tool
Review: Finally 3-Com has the product I can't live without. No hassles with batteries, good readability, holds all my data and add-in programs with plenty of memory to spare. I've given up my Velo and my Franklin planner. I can carry it in my shirt pocket. One fix needs an xacto knife. Cut a slot in the cover to prevent toggling the scroll button when an alarm activates. Then glue small strips of rubber on the inside of the cover, at the bottom, on either side of that slot to prevent turn-on by the cover pressing the buttons. This is a minor problem, easily fixed and in no way detracts from an otherwise great product.

Summary: I think it is the BEST PDA unit on the market .
Review: The long battery life between recharcging is great, >30 days. I own about 6 PDA units from many manufactures partly becuase I am developing my own unit with some special add on features. But I still think the best product for the price is the Palm V, this is what I carry!!!!!!

Summary: Outstanding*****Replaced my Color Windows CE for the Palm V
Review: Any of you thinking about Windows CE, Think Again!

I purchased a $900 HP 660LX with all of the options and it never worked up to the standards set by Palm Pilot. After trying to use the 660LX for my business, I decided to give the Palm V a try and within a day of using the Palm V, I sold my CE machine to a friend and boy was I glad. This thing ROCKS! Be sure to try the games that are free on the internet!
