Summary: Some users need to know this
Review: I've seen reviews by users who claimed that to add in additional programs (.prc string)such as alarm clock or world clock, you need to spend another 25-30 dollars. You don't have to! There are virtually thousands of freewares/sharewares out there in www. I infact have quite a collection myself. Forget about all other PDA's, this Palm V is a gizmoz.

Summary: No match for the Newton
Review: I think that while this product does have an obvious size advantage over the newton, the software is not as elegant, the solution to handwriting recognition not as handy, and the features not as ground-breaking. A wonderful product, but I would rather have the newton any day.

Summary: Imposssible with Windows NT 4.0
Review: I rushed out to buy a PalmV after reading all these great reviews, and find I can't use it!! For some reason despite the fact, the administrator has installed it (logging in as administrator), I can't access/use the Palm Desktop. It is definitely not worth the money if I can't link/synchronize it to my desktop!!! Does anyone have a fix? Is this a common problem? Would appreciate help. Thanks.

Summary: This one is the coolest little toy I've bought this year
Review: I've had a palm pilot personal for a long time now. When I decided to buy this particular model, the design and size really influenced my decision. Now that I've had a chance to play with it; I don't regret buying it. Well worth the price.

Summary: Excellent organization and productivity tool!
Review: Just recently bought one and would highly recommend even for the non-technical person. Very easy to work with!

Summary: Better than paper!!!!
Review: I had used a paper planner for years before switching to the Palm V. I swore that I did not need one and that the paper planner was all I ever needed. Then one of my friends got one and I saw how useful it was for him. I made the switch and I cannot say that I regret it. The Palm V is great!! It tracks everything I need addresses, appointements, emails, to-dos, and it fits in my pocket!!!!

But what really sold me on the Palm V was the rechargeable battery - I debated between the Palm III's and the V. But when it came down to it I figured that if I was going to be using it a lot that the rechargeable battery was a good idea.

I would recommend this product to anyone that uses a paper organizer to organize their life. If you don't use any organizer right now then chances are that you will not get the use out of the product that the rest of us do. Definitely a must have for those of us that like to organize our life.

Summary: Not a 5 Star!!!!!
Review: Nice small size (5 star there),, but as an owner of previous PIM,, this one is WAY overpriced!! ie: 1) NO ALARM CLOCK!! could not believe it! want to wake up during a trip at 6AM? Sorry!!then you have to spend another 25-40 dollars for new software. 2) NO FREE TEXT!! want to draw a direction? tough luck,, have to buy ANOTHER software ie "jot" at 40-50 dollars. 3) still with BUGS.. First one would not recognise the stilus.. eventually had to be replaced..

lots of negative for such price,, but if the price comes down to less than 250,, then I think it would be a good buy....Good Luck...

Summary: The Best PDA
Review: I switched to the V from my Palm Professional. What a great decision! It's so small and comfortable.

Summary: You can easily reverse the backlighting on the Palm V
Review: Just a follow-on to my July review, I noticed some criticisms about the horrible backlighting that comes with the Palm V. You can actually reverse the backlighting using the control-dot commands. I found this command in the O'Reilly book and am now using normal backlighting. It works! The command starts with a cursive lower case "L", then a tap, then the number 8.

Summary: Very nice but not perfect
Review: Very good at what it was designed for... a better Day timer. Data entry easy to get used to. Sync'd the first time. Drawbacks however include a screen that is sometimes hard to read due to low light or reflections. Also the software which comes with the Palm isn't as good as the software you can buy from third parties. Why hasn't 3Com kept up. biggest drawback is price. $400 isn't cheap for a replacement for a $50 organizer... even if it is better. If 3Com can cram Palm features into a $250 model, they can wrap it in the slimmer case of the Palm V...when they do I'll buy it.
