Rating: Summary: GREAT Transition Product!! Review: I just went cold turkey and gave up my phonebook-sized planner, replacing it with the Palm IIIxe. What a great move!!! Not only do you get a ton of storage capacity (8MB), but it's also NOT overloaded with a ton of unused, gimicky features. In fact, there's a constant supply of new software coming out to improve what & how you do things - business & personal. My favorite featuress include: large screen, good backlighting for in dark, week-at-a-time view shows bars where daily items are scheduled, ability to write and answer e-mail, and it really is pocket-sized, even with a case. Though this is an 'older' model, you'll find it's MOST functional and priced right, too. Unless you're hooked on color screens (very tough to see at night), need handsfree web-access (it's an upgrade, though), or have money to burn this unit is tops. I consider myself an average user, and a pair of AAA batteries easily last 3 months, so I'm not tied to a charger and easily carry a set in my car (just in case). I'd bet the cost for batteries annually is less than the electricity costs to charge other models. I believe that the Handspring units are similarly comparable, but personally decided on the Palm for what I believe is a more solid reputation and stronger product support under 3Com, though these are certainly arguable points. So long pen & paper - hello stylus & touchpad! Heck, I can even operate the calculator with my fingers!
Rating: Summary: get it Review: this product is unregretful must(?) buy product... if you compare it with Palm Vx(one of the popular palms), you'll find the functions are all same except for the fact that Palm Vx only has advantage over advanced LCD and rechargeble batteries. who cares if LCD is advanced? gray is still gray. rechargeble batteries are better, but rechargeble ones lasts UPTO 2 weeks but AA batteries on palmIIIxe lasts up to a whole month. those two advantages and a better look ... plus get it quickly because palm stopped making this product and its one of the top sellers!
Rating: Summary: This works for me Review: I am a farmer. I used to keep all of my records in a travel binder. I am finding that my Palm is easily replacing almost all the functions of my travel binder. I love it. However, you need to get the screen covers if you are going to use the machine in any kind of an even dusty environment.
Rating: Summary: In one word, "Intuitive" Review: I am a senior finance major at a top university. My friend got an I-Paq and I looked over it thoroughly before buying my Palm. It just took too much time to navigate. PocketPC is an improvement over WinCE, but still wastes time. I have waited over a year to get mine, and it set my life free. I use spreadsheets, from a 3rd party app called "QuickOffice" that are perfectly integrated with Excel. No more bustling around a laptop. A quick note, if you need anything more than just an address book and planner, get something (such as this IIIxe or a Vx) with 8 MB of storage. This is simply amazing.
Rating: Summary: Last of the legendary and classic Palm III's Review: About 8 months ago i was in the hunt for my first PDA. Deciding that i wanted to go the Palm OS direction i had the choice of going with either the IIIxe or the Vx. Boasting roughly the same innards, the decision came down to form. Since i was willing to part with a little more money at that time i decided to go with the Vx. Let me say however that had i chosen the IIIxe i would not have been disappointed at all. Its a great Palm with upgradable OS. Something its Palm III brothers could not do. My only gripe with this Palm is that it is quite large. It is just as big as something i willing to carry in my pocket. Since i planned to bring my Palm with me where ever i go and i dont carry a bag, my pocket would have to be its main form of transportation. With an added case that would have made its overall size even bigger. Overall i really like this Palm. It has that classic look and is still one of the more powerful palms available. I would pick this over the m100's any day. As a last piece of advice i highly recommend that you do your research before you go and by any PDA. Dont believe the PocketPC ads or even the Palm ads. Talk to a lot of people and read a lot of reviews, particularly reviews that are made my people like you or me who aren't on Palm's or Microsoft's payroll.(Unfortunately) They will really tell you a lot of things that you will really want to know. Good Luck!
Rating: Summary: PalmIIIxe Absolutely Rocks!! Review: The PalmIIIxe only sells but has 8MB RAM and a 2MB Flash ROM for PALM OS upgrades. It ships with PALM OS 3.5 but 4.0 is out now and you can upgrade the OS to 4.0 with the PALMIIIxe. This is something the HandSpring Deluxe cannot do because it does not have the upgradable 2MB of flash memory for its OS. On the other hand the PALM does not have the memory expansion slots the HandSpring Deluxe and the newer PALMS have. Still, you have a lot of accessories (like modems, wireless modems, etc) that attach to the PALM IIIxe through it s hotsync. The PALM sells for less money than the HandSpring Deluxe as well. The bottom line is this: The PalmIIIxe is the best Palm HandHeld for the money, provided you are not interested in the memory expansion feature. For most people, the memory expansion feature is something that will never get used in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: One of the best purchaces I've ever made! Review: When my eletronic organizer gave up the ghost, I bought a Palm IIIxe. This is one of my best purchases ever!! The IIIxe is easy to use. Installing the software on my PC & laptop was a breeze. I never go anywhere without my IIIxe. Right now the IIIxe maybe the best bargan on the market, I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Maybe the best handheld value today - if you can find one! Review: I've been a Palm Pilot user since 1996 and after dropping my trusty Palm III on a rock and cracking its screen, I sprung for a new IIIxe which has surpassed all my expectations. Handhelds will continue to improve and drop in price but right now, I think the IIIxe is an outstanding value. Other reviewers have done a good job of singing the praises of handhelds in general (think of it as a small box in which you can download 90% of your short-term memory) so I'll stick to the specifics of the IIIxe. Major benefits: 8MB of memory, a much clearer screen (both day and night) than the III and built-in connection to Microsoft Outlook (as well as AOL and some other systems) so you can update addresses, lists, calendars, etc. in one place AND take everything in your email inbox wherever you go. On top of this, the IIIxe is currently priced extremely favorably versus comparable handhelds (it's an older model and getting harder to find). Ease of use is excellent and there are many applications available, although the basic functions alone are more than worth the price. The Beam application to other handhelds is also becoming more useful every day as more people use them. Drawbacks: The biggest is no built-in Web access. For me personally, this is no big deal but if you need frequent access to email, stock trading, etc. you're better off with an upgraded model. There's also no color display but the screen is great for most business uses and I still get the most benefit from the same basic applications (addresses, calendar, to do lists) that I did five years ago. One last thing: I recommend purchasing a protective leather case and an extended warranty which covers the screen (I break one about every two years). Trust me - once you get one of these, you will never go back to little bits of paper again.
Rating: Summary: Put your life in your Palm Review: Some call it being organized some call it being anal, whatever you call it, it's great. I've begun to put my life in my "Palm Pilot IIIxe" and it's wonderful. No longer do I have an excuse for missing a meeting, deadline, birthday or occasional birthday. I sync my life both on my home PC and on my work computer with the optional additional cradle. And I've also used "Truesync Launcher" and my "Excite" home page to allow my family and freinds to check my schedule on line. It also allows you to print from your PC a wonderfully formatted calandar, by day, week or month. The graffitti that is needed on the handheld device can be tricky, but with a little practice anyone can master it. The only problem I have is the handheld recognizing the letter "D". If your uncomfortable using the handheld, you can always update your device on your PC using the software provided. I considered more expensive models with wireless features, but decided basic was better for me. Let the Palm IIIxe help you manage your long term memory, so you have room for more pleasant ones! Terry...
Rating: Summary: GREAT PRODUCT!!! Review: This Palm is absolutly GREAT!!! If your just getting in on the PDA scene like I was when I purchased this, it's the best way to go! 8 meg's insure that you will almost never outgrow it no matter what you use it for. It is so small and light it fits in almost any pocket easily. And as for function, this sucker will do almost anything you want. I use it for a day planner and phone book, and it is the easiest thing you will ever use! Grafitti is VERY easy to learn, and even easier to enter data. With just a few screen taps, you can see what your doing MONTHS ahead of time. Backing up data is also very easy, just install the HotSync software, put the palm in the cradle and push the button. The computer takes care of the rest. If your looking for an organizer, this is definitly the way to go!! And who can beat the GREAT price??
