Summary: Palm IIIxe is super.
Review: I've had my Palm IIIxe for about nine months now and honestly don't know what I'd do without it. What a terrific little device for keeping calendar and phone numbers current. I don't use all the features but have been very much impressed with what I have been able to accomplish in such a short period of time. I love my Palm IIIxe.

Summary: good, but short crystal life
Review: Love the organizer itself. Great for those who just want to organize their schedule and phone list. Problem: crystal in display goes out withing two years. It costs $100- for a refurbished replacement from Palm. Really a good product, but you have to plan on replacement costs every couple years, as well as remembering to back up often.

Summary: Got it as a gift when first released-- still perfect!
Review: I got my Palm IIIxe as a gift when it was first released. It's perfect for my needs and I have had no need to get a newer model. I really only needed an datebook/memopad/address book/organizer that was lightweight and fits in my pocket. Frankly, the newer models seem like a waste of money-- no one I know needs the wireless features, color monitor, and bult in batteries of the new models. In fact, not having replacable batteries can sometimes be a problem if you don't remember to recharge your PDA.

Plus you can download neat programs such as Vindigo (local info)and Dopewars (game) if you like since the memory is plentiful.

In short, get this model-- the newer models just have added bells and whistles.

Summary: Cheep, but expensive to maintain
Review: This Palm IIIxe is great and affordable for most PDA abilities, however I don't recommend it for the serious PDA user. The reason in one word: batteries. Depending on how often you use this, you'll be changing out batteries every 2-4 weeks. At ($)... bucks a pop for fresh juice, it adds up very quickly. My advice is to save your money and get one of the rechargeable models.

Summary: Beware of this product
Review: When changing the batteries in your Palm IIIxe if you leave the batteries out for more than 1 minute, it completely wipes out all the data on your handheld. This bit of crucial information is not listed in the literature that comes with the product.

Review: I found it very adequate. I'm a college student and it fulfilled all my needs and is very dependable!

Summary: Palm III great device at the beginning
Review: GREAT AT THE BEGINNING, I have given this device excited endorsments, and have 6 freinds who have purchased PALM products on my recomendation. HOWEVER, this device is my Third. Started with the PALM PROFESSIONAL, and decided 2MB was not enough. Purchased a IIIxe and sold my PRO to a friend (it latet died on him). The first IIIxe worked great for aprox 4 months and then gave serious display problems. This was exchanged by customer support (who are great, but I later had a problem which they still have not answered, 3weeks). I have almost maxed out the memory and use it for everything from contact, schedule, to do, and even my checkbook, and some medical stats. Use it with the modem for e-mail and minor net lookups. BUT after 1 1/2 years, the device is giving me a HUGE headache. My computers are USB only, IT WILL NOT SYNC. The adapters seem to have a lifespan, of only 7 months, currently on my third. But Now WILL NOT SYNC AT ALL and customer support is confused. Am now shopping for replacement and not ordering PALM

Summary: Good price, good features
Review: As far as palm pilots go, this is a 5, unless you want color. Palm is popular and easy to use, so there are plenty of programs for it. Grafiti, the custom writing style, is good, but difficult for me due to poor fine-motor skills. As such, a few letters require several repeats to get. My wife is much better with the writing portion than I am. I primarily use this for reminders, phonebook and notes. Side use is multi-clocks for travelling, and various video games.

Summary: Nice while it lasted
Review: I didn't have any complaints about the IIIxe while it actually worked. It had more than enough memory and I found a lot of useful software to go with it. However, about 10 months after I bought it I started having problems with it. I should have called Palm right away, but put it off until the unit didn't work at all and I had no choice. Of course, by then it was out of warranty. Customer service at Palm is seriously lacking and the representative are quite rude. When I told them that it had started malfunctioning while still under warranty, they said it wasn't under warranty anymore and basically that it (stinks) to be me. I realize that it's partly my fault and that I should have called sooner, but it would be nice deal with a company that believes their customers are still important after they buy the product and is willing to give customers the benefit of the doubt rather than grabbing for more money. One representative offered to have it repaired for a "small charge." When I asked him what this small charge was, he said $95! That's not small in my book. While I will probably have it repaired eventually, it is only because I miss all the software that I bought for it that will only run on Palm OS. I would never buy a Palm product again.

Summary: Lots of Bang for your buck
Review: This handheld is the best one in the palm family. The features are well worth the reasonable price and it is very rugged. I have taken mine to class and really abused it living on dorm. To this day it works like a charm. You never know what your missing untill you get one. i bought mine as an impulse buy and I don't see how I got along with out it.
