Rating: Summary: Sheer Genius Review: This type of technology is coming down in price and for good reason. More and more companies are expanding so many possiblities to what this technology can really do. Imagine being able to plan your meetings, set up dinner, plan your television schedule for the evening to your VCR, DVD player and satelite TV, order take out and have it waiting for you when you arrive and coordinate seminars with the touch of a button with your collegues. This device is so easy to use, practical and you don't have to lose your voice talking over a cell phone-HA! In fact, you don't have to talk to anyone anymore. Forget pagers, this gadget has all you need to send email with the optional modem. Plenty of memory to store an entire PC and with upgrade capability-this device is going to be a part of every business persons briefcase by 2003. ... Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: The only thing keeping me from buying a notebook PC! Review: I love my Palm IIIxe. It's the only thing that is keeping me from buying a notebook computer. It does everything I need it to. I can keep up with my E-mail with an optional modem, keep track of all my appointments, keep all of my contacts -- and I do mean all of them -- and keep hundreds of memos neat and organized. The Palm is more than a mere organizer. It's a complete handheld computing platform. This isn't just hype. It's a fact. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of third party software solutions for it. I have an electronic shopping list, minesweeper, chess, solitaire, a drawing program, a paint program, an E-Book reader, an interactive Map of the Boston subway system, a base conversion utility and even a pocket version of Quicken on mine. This is in addition to all the addresses, appointments and memos I have stored and I still have only scratched the surface of the cavernous memory in the xe. There are flashier systems out there. There are systems with more memory. But the Palm does everything it does extremely well. It has all the memory it needs and it is reasonably priced. The creators of the Palm really nailed it. It's a superb handheld computing solution. I've never found myself wishing it could do more. There is always another piece of software available that makes my IIIex do what I need it to do. Just look at all the expansion options available for the Palm III series on Amazon.com! There are keyboards, modems, digital cameras and even add-ons that allow it to act as a GPS receiver! The Palm III platform is truly versatile and it executes this versatility with virtuosity. I could have bought a palmtop PC running Windows CE but I used a friend's Palm III and I was hooked. In five minutes, I was using it just as if I had owned it for months. It is very intuitive and easy to use. In my opinion, the Palm IIIxe is a great value. It does exactly what I need it to and more and for short money, too. Hats off to 3Com. I love it.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: Let me say, that, overall, the Palm IIIxe is probably one of the, IMHO, best handhelds out their. It's screen is excellent, far surpassing that of the Palm V. It's design (ignoring Sprinboard) is better then that of a Visor. It's lite enough to forget you have it, and it fits well into one's pocket. 8mb's of memory is more then enough, and the processor is excellent. All this makes for one of, if not the, best handhelds on the market.
Rating: Summary: Palm IIIxe Review: An excellent price and value for a little computer.
Rating: Summary: Palm - mixes business and pleasure... Review: I have had my Palm IIIxe for about 2 weeks now. I wasn't going to use it to surf the wireless web or check real-time stock market quotes, so I didn't want to spend a lot of money. Right out of the box it was very easy to use. Although it came with a pretty thick manual I have only opened it twice. I love the Avantgo software. It puts internet news channels (of your choice) on to your Palm to read at your convenience. I use the Palm's features to keep track of appointments, phone numbers, and things that I have to get done. With all of the programs available online the possibilities are endless. I have even downloaded a few books (to my Palm) that I read when I get a chance. I can't forget to mention all of the cool games I have gotten to kill most of my free time (good thing the Palm has an alarm to remind when it is time to quit). Overall very easy to use, very handy to have around, and very fun.
Rating: Summary: Intuitive, simple, and useful Review: I don't like hype. But the Palm IIIxe is intuitive, and simple, and very, very useful. It's kind of like opening the smallest present under the tree and proving that the best gifts come in small packages. For years I've written myself notes on scraps of paper, pasted Post-Its on the refrigerator, kept refilling Daytimers, made to-do lists on my PC's, left messages for myself on my answering machines, and sent myself email reminders. But this little unit has replaced all that. It's great. It takes a day or two to catch on, but it is so intuitive and and so easy once you get the hang of it that you'll soon be recommending your Palm to your friends, your family, and total strangers. The neat thing about the Palm IIIxe is that it isn't bogged down with a lot of frills. It's not a web device. Get something else or use your pc if that's what you want. It is a very organized organizer. Here's what it's got: A calendar, by day or week or month. Notes. Contacts, addresses, multiple phone, fax, etc., to-do's, memos, etc all with your definable categories. It's got search and find utilities, configurable preferences, etc. Reminders, alarms, infrared transfer of a business card to another Palm, etc. It comes with desktop software for your PC so you can back it up regularly (called HotSync), and I recommend using this religiously because it isn't fool-proof. You'll get used to the stylus and entering data with it in no time. If you've got a bunch of text to enter, do it on your PC and then HotSync it over to your Palm. It's small, and light and not bogged down with a lot of junk. Throw out your Daytimer, let the dog eat those Post-its, and let the vacuum cleaner suck up those scraps of paper. Pick up one of these Palms. Highly recommended. We bought these Palm IIIxe's for our business and can't stop raving about them. Yikes! That's a lot of free Palm promo, but I really do think this is the coolest thing I've seen in years.
Rating: Summary: Reply to person from MD Review: If you're thinking about a IIIxe or a visor deluxe, I would choose a IIIxe, because the Visor Deluxe crashes too much! Also, how much memory do you need do you think?
Rating: Summary: WHICH ONE TO BUY?!?!? Review: Yes...I'm new to the PDAs and I am trying to decide between the Handspring Visor Deluxe or the Palm IIIxe. Any suggestions or helpful info would be greatly appreciated. What were your deciding factors? I used to have a Psion that I really hated - but that was years ago! Thanks!!
Rating: Summary: I need answers Review: I would love to give you a review but I still have a lot of questions and need to talk to someone who can answer them. I want to buy a PalmIIxe but I am not sure if it will do what I want it to do. I want to download text ( from e-magazines, e-books, articles, book reviews etc.) from the internet and read them in my free time, on the job or out fishing. This Palm IIIxe (I'm a newbie)looks good but I can't be sure. If yes, what accesseries would I have to buy to do this? Does the stand come with this to make reading easier? Is there something else that would be superior for my purposes? In a quandry. Thanks guys, Stan Stan
Rating: Summary: Try It - You'll Like It! (Best Value PDA) Review: I thought PDAs were for geeks and resisted. Now like other PDA converts, I can't imagine life without it. You know that you need one when you start losing notes or forgetting passwords, numbers, PINS...something had to replace those decreasing brain cells. Now all those scattered pieces of paper, planners, and address books are gone! The operating system is very intuitive. Learning how to write with the "Graffiti" feature took @ 15 minutes. I can set different alarms for all my meetings & appointments (very easy to set repeated items or reschedule - no more erasing and scribbling in a paper planner). I can view the day's schedule and "Things to Do" list with the press of one button. The "Find" feature is truly useful - just type in a word and it displays wherever it's stored. Backing up the entire PDA on a PC is easy - simply rest the PDA on the cradle and press a button (after installing the PC software, of course). After looking at the Handspring and Palms, the Palm IIIxe offered the best value and should offer some protection against super-quick obsolescence. The 8MB memory is a must so that I don't have to worry about the no. of programs that I store (good shareware and freeware stuff on the internet). The operating system is upgradeable in the future. (While most programs support older operating systems - newer operating systems can have newer features). In addition, the flip cover helps protect the PDA screen (I would still recommend buying a case). While the Handspring Deluxe has a nice Springboard expansion module, it did not seem that practical, e.g. the phone or MP3 modules can cost more than a cell phone or separate player. The Palm IIIxe's quality is very good. The screen is decent sized but I wish that the display was crisper. The color is a nice sophisticated black. However, the stylus (the pen-like stick you write with) is cheap plastic - you'll want to replace it. The Palm IIIxe does not come with a cheap price tag, but it's still much less expensive than a Palm Vx or SONY PDA. I'm not going to re-order my Franklin Planner so I'm saving $$ there. And if it helps you get some control over your life (and cut the stress)...it's a great investment!
