Rating: Summary: Easy to Use Review: The Tungsten T2 is my first handheld, and i'm extremely pleased with it. Not only is it very easy to use, small enough for my small purses, lightweight, and easy for my husband to review my calendar on the computer - a big plus - being able to download my expenses into excel for analysis is very important. A great handheld for the first-time user.
Rating: Summary: Tungsten T2, Just Superb Review: I,ve had a Palm IIIc for awhile, was one of Palms earlier and sucessful attempts at color, was vibrant, clear and worked well even with a small memeory. Saw all the new developments on handhelds and started to look at Personal PC,s. In shopping around saw the Palm Tungsten T2 and had to have it. Just bought it today, already on line, most of my applications and data have been hot synched in, not trouble at all, the display, no one is close, speed too, have downloaded digital photos to memory and card. Just delighted with the whole thing, applause for Palm A great device, the best I have seen and recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: As a former Pocket PC owner, love it. Review: I have owned two Pocket PCs and didn't use them because of their bulk. This is my first Palm, and I'm delighted by its smallness. I use it because it actually fits in my pocket and thus can go places with me. I also found that appointment entry and management is faster and easier with the Palm software than the Pocket PC software.
Rating: Summary: Easier to use and lots faster Review: T2 is the handheld we recently chose for our execs. A couple of support staff were lucky enough to get one of these too, that's how I got mine. Let me tall ya its excellent. I don't understand the issues with SD cards -- I haven't had any. Getting it set up for wireless was a breeze. No probs here.
Rating: Summary: Palm Generally Delivers Review: I suppose comparing to my last device (IIIxe) means I am not really a big spender who always needs the latest/coolest devices. I doubt I will have any interest in the T3, even if it is twice as fast, twice as much memory etc, as the T2, but this is also true because the T2 does the job and is really ahead of the rest of the industry in some respects. I have no clue what to do with Bluetooth (refer to my early comment on my spending habits) Why would I buy a bluetooth phone? (or is a better question "where?"). You can get bluetooth adapters on lots of devices, but why? Would you really spend $300 to get the adapter for your powerpoint projector so you can do your next presentation from the T2? why not just use your laptop as before? Want wireless? Get a remote control device to change the slides.Other reviews seem to suggest the SD card is unreliable. Kind of got me scared. You can't show up to the big presentation and have no data on your card. So now what do you do? bring a backup SD card? Changing devices every 6 months is not fun for a busy person. I took hours to get this thing configured, and my address book copied over etc.., not to mention the difficulties in learning "Documents to Go". Biggest disappointment is how overrated this conversion really is. Almost every document I tried to load on my palm came out either party or totally useless. A map in powerpoint was unreadable no matter what you did. A party invitation in word came out with only the photo, and not a word of text. Others were equally disappointing. Okay...need to pour even more time into reading the manuals. The adobe acrobat is semi useless too, as only after you buy the device that you find the original making of the pdf file must be "tagged" for it to work right in the conversion. Still what a great improvement over the IIIxe. Great screen, a speaker, alarm vibrate etc. are all great features. I lost interest in some fancy pocket PC- when it comes to intensive computations - that's what the P4 2.4 Gig laptop is for... Buy stocks in Palm because these devices should only cost about $100 to produce in volume. Company will get rich selling these at $300 because too many people will pay and pay, and pay!
Rating: Summary: About time Palm stepped it up to 32 MB Review: I've been using Palm's since the 505 and than up to the T and now I had to sell my T for the T2. I am kind of angry that palm kept the T so close to the T2. I wouldn't have bought the T2. Anyays, I got the T2 and my brother does and the rest of you all need to get this fine piece of machinery. Espeically Medical Students. What a chance since 505 days. Awesome!
Rating: Summary: T2 - Everything you need but Bluetooth is not future yet. Review: T2 maybe the newest for Palm but its still a few steps behind what Palm really needs to do in order to catch up with the ever evolving Pocket PCs who are basically taking the best out of everyday computers and integrating them into one small, usually unstable, little device. What Tungsten T2 really lacks is Wi-Fi, ethernet or any other expansion ability in which it can adapt to older technologies which may end up sticking around longer than you think. As a college student, I soon realized the T2 would do all my business, scheduling and daily work but I still can't connect to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities wireless internet and we're the most wireless of all campuses in the country. As for Bluetooth, it works with almost nothing right now and it seems unlikely Bluetooth will be ever present as Palm may hope for. Don't even talk about connecting to a BT mobile phone, only three phones on the market are really compatible to sync with the T2 and most carriers such as T-Mobile don't even sell them meaning you'll have to do a lot of manual work and pay high direct company prices just to go an extra step such as AOL. The price is just too high considering everything you'll need to buy afterwards will soar the ACTUAL cost beyond $500 (memory cards to store mp3s/videos, usable hard flip case, on-the-go USB/recharge cord (wall outlet power will mean lugging the cradle with you) & protective screens). You should wait until T3 but theres no telling if it will really solve the T2's lacking (including hidden battery) without resulting in a larger heavier device. Palm enjoys style and refinement, see if they can do it by late Fall. For students: Scheduling, mp3s, and *voice memo* - plus you can buy an attachable digi-camera - price should be satisfying if not a little much
Rating: Summary: Great for work and play! Review: The T2 is the best electronics item I have ever owned (and that says a LOT!) I tried PocketPC and Palm is just so much easier to use, more stable and faster. Want Memorystick (are you nuts?) go Sony. SD is the way to go. Fantastic screen, great form factor. Tons of software. Best on the market today.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic upgraded model !! Review: I have ugraded from Palm V to Tungsten T and now to Tungsten T2. This PDA is amazing. The screen is so vibrant and clear. The processor is ultra fast. No more waiting for photos to load onto the screen. It is amazingly fast and the pictures are as clear as a paper photo! Graffiti2 is annoying but I'm sure I'll get use to it. How did I get along without one of these ? I have excel spreadsheets from work on it, updated drug info, ( I need it for work) my bible, dictionary, as well as a secured section for my dozens of logon IDs and passwords that is requires to be changed on a monthly bases. Love it!
Rating: Summary: Hardware is almost there but no software! Review: Basic...: Finally Palm has woken up and put out some decent hardware. Bluetooth is a welcome addition but where the CF slot? You can't add 512MB storage, SD Wifi, 56K modem, or ethernet as of now, CF slot is needed. Design ...: Neither is T2 slim & lightweight nor ergonomically designed (clumsy slider and wrong placement of headphone jack). The hardware is still below the PPC's, the multimedia capabilities are poor. And T2 is what the T1 should actually have been last yr. Software ....: I can't believe that PalmSource hasn't been able to write even a mp3/mpeg player of their own! What a shame since the hardware is almost there, but has literally no software bundled. Shouldn't I be able to plug in a CF/SD card full of pics, mp3 or mpeg movies and play them on a Palm straight out-of-box? Screen rip-off: And what is Palm's problem in including atleast a proper slots for attaching a flip? Even better, how about including a decent flip like on Clie's? (a case will make this Palm way more thicker than pocket size, but Palm wants to make money selling its overpriced cases) Battery rip-off: Why in the world does Palm think that by hiding their battery slot they will sell more PDA's in future? If the battery is hidden, I many won't even buy it in first place, forget about replacing it with a newer Palm couple of yrs later. Every iPaq now has replaceable battery slot and you can put in a spare on long days. (These LiIon's die in 2-3 years even if not used, leaving with you a paperweight.) Pricing ....: By the time you add required software, it will cost twice as much as an iPaq 1930 or Dell Axim X5 or Toshiba e355 and still do less. People will pay a premium for Palm OS but not if it does less than PPC. And definitely not this high a premium. OS ....: Ofcourse the only reason we are even considering T2 is because of Palm OS. Palm OS much more stable, easier to use and well designed (not bloatware). But the fact is it does very little compared to Windoze. MSFT will eventually get something like XP for handhelds also. Final .....: T2 is already obsolete and will be replaced by T3 in early October. In short its a classic case of too little, too late and too expensive.
