Rating: Summary: Fast CPU, great screen, but no wi-fi Review: The T2 is an updated version of the original Tungsten, and as such sports a minor upgrade in the OS software as well as a better color screen and more memory -- 32MB total in RAM, but only 29MB user-accessible. Still that's plenty for a Palm-based PDA. The performance is truly snappy; playing MP3's, which still require a Secure Digital memory card, gives no hiccups. Every thing responds instantanenously. One star taken off for requiring using an SD card for MP3 and video playing. Another star for not including wi-fi (802.11b or g); instead, the less common Bluetooth wireless technology is built-in. You can use BT to talk to BT-enabled cell phones, but it's a hassle. Sure you can buy an Secure Digital wi-fi card soon, but 1) that draws more battery power than built-in wi-fi circuitry, and 2) you can't use wi-fi and expansion memory (or play MP3s) at the same time. What a dumb design! Battery is still not user-replaceable, unlike the new trend with Pocket PCs.Overall, the T2 is pleasant to use and truly compact. But the lack of wi-fi and the need to use expansion for an enhanced experience make it a poor choice for the power user (such as yours truly).
Rating: Summary: Power Concentrated = Palm Tungsten T2!!! Review: The Tungsten T2 is my second purchase from Palm. This upgrade from my Palm m130 blew me away as soon as I turned on the T2 for the first time. This PDA has both a great size and a powerful Texas Instruments OMAP1510 processor with the latest Palm OS v5.2.1. The Tungsten T2 also comes with 32MB of memory, an Outstanding color high resolution 320x320 screen, Realone Player for your Mp3s, Built-in Bluetooth, and a Built in Voice Recorder. Not to mention a 5-way navigator button that allows anyone to access information with just one hand. All of these functions are jsut great especially if your frequently using the T2 for school and work. Thanks to the T2, I know 4 years from now my next PDA will be from Palm P.S. J&R Music and Computer World as well as Amazon.com gave the best deals on purchasing a Tungsten T2
Rating: Summary: Nice machine but the graffitti is temperamental Review: I upgraded to this model from my old b&w IBM work pad. The screens are really clear and easy to read. This model has many more functions than my old one, and I use it constantly. The graffitti is a little different than IBM, but essentially the same. I find it temperamental, though, and it often picks entirely the wrong character - sometimes even giving me a letter when I'm writing a number in the numerical section. I was able to write a fast graffitti appointment or record a new contact in my address book quickly before, but now I find I'm often backing up a couple of times, just writing a few words. I can never seem to write a new contact's e-mail address or the phone number correctly the first time. I owned and used my work pad extensively for a couple of years, so I'm not a novice at it. There are icons for two games on the games section, but when I select either of them, my machine locks up and I have to turn it over and reset it every time. I have no problem hot-synching; the critical functions do what they are supposed to. I didn't expect the above-mentioned glitches though, at this price.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Disappointment Review: I have used Palm OS devices for about four years. I recently purchased the TT2. I was excited about the product because it had everything that I wanted from a handheld. However, after using it for a day or so, the Voice Memo application started to malfunction. Sometimes it would not record anything no matter what I did. Other times it would record, but when I left Voice Memo then returned to it, the recordings would disappear. Palm Support told me to return the unit, which I did, and exchange it for a new one. Within one hour of using my second TT2 it started to do exactly the same thing! I'm returning it to Palm and I'll be purchasing a handheld by a different company on Monday. I'd be interested to hear whether or not others have experienced problems with the Voice Memo application. Also, I'd like to echo the sentiments of another reviewer: The telephone support for Palm is absolutely HORRIBLE. They route their tech support calls to India, as you may know. As a native American, it was almost impossible for me to communicate with any of the tech representatives. They didn't understand me and I didn't understand them. Also, they don't seem to actually know anything about the technical aspects of the Palm products. As far as I could tell they were just surfing the PalmOne website and reading Knowledge Library entries to me. Dealing with them was one of the worst experiences I've had in months. Literally.
Rating: Summary: Easy and versatile to use Review: *NOTE: This review is from itreviews.co.uk* No sharp executive or journalist about town is complete these days without a smooth PDA to slip into his or her top pocket, and Palm has been at the forefront of the computer-in-your-hand revolution. The aim here is crystal clear - to upgrade the earlier Tungsten T with a bit more of everything that was in the original and throw in some new multimedia features too. The good news is that the rather meagre 16MB of memory has now been doubled to 32MB, thus allowing for greater storage capacity. The T2 also incorporates the latest version of Palm OS 5.0 - version 5.2.1 - and features a bright 320 x 320 transflective colour screen that supports 65,000 colours. Bluetooth technology remains built in so you can wirelessly access your e-mails and the Net, while once again the Graffiti 2 software allows you to perform on-screen writing (though it does take some practice to differentiate upper and lower case). An on-screen keyboard can be called up to fill in your spreadsheets, notes and diary entries, etc. A new element is contained in the Software Essentials on the enclosed CD-ROM. Palm Photos will allow you to take family snaps or holiday photos with you when you disappear on a business trip, and you can even perform basic editing functions. If you're a movie fan, the Kinoma Video Player will let you play video clips or movie trailers. Finally, MP3 or RealAudio files stored on an expansion card can now be enjoyed either via the reasonable speaker or through the headphone socket. All of these functions can be swiftly implemented by dragging and dropping files onto the Palm Quick Install icon. The Documents To Go Professional Edition that comes as standard is Word, Excel and PowerPoint compatible (Mac too) and the extra storage capacity now encourages you to create more work documents on the move. There's an additional built-in voice memo recorder for any moments of inspiration. Transferring data from handheld to desktop computer is done via the supplied cradle and HotSync software and it works seamlessly. The only drawback with the cradle is that it is the only means to charge up the unit, which adds unnecessary bulk to a system that should be as unobtrusive as possible. The T2 keeps the same sturdy slider (as pictured) as was fitted to the Tungsten T. This protects the Menu, Home, Search and Favourite buttons. Navigation can be carried out with one hand using the five-way directional pad. It's this familiarity with the prototype that will appeal to Palm addicts looking for something more for not too much cash. Verdict: Easy and versatile to use, the Tungsten T2 is both cheaper than its ancestor and has the additional media functions that will attract the growing army of MP3 fans who want to be entertained when they're not keeping up on the office paperwork.
Rating: Summary: Nice concept-lousy execution Review: When it works it's marvelous. Unfortunately it is a huge source of frustration. The big problem is in the "hot-sync" function. I have installed the software on four seperate computers, with three different operating systems. They all react the same way: within a short time when a "hot sync" is performed you get a "Fatal Alert" error on the Palm. Sometime a reset will clear it sometimes it won't. Sometimes you have to do a hard reset and lose your data. Their customer support is off-shore and the language problem is overwhelming. One-half hour on the phone just to get a Service Request number. When it came back it was exactly the same. The software has to be reinstalled regularly on the PC to keep it working right. I have reinstalled the PC software over a DOZEN times on four different computers just to make sure my data is safe and functionable. The software is MISERABLE!! Get a Sony.
Rating: Summary: Improvement on a great theme Review: I am a former owner of the original T|T. After a little over a year of T|T use, the power button became much less responsive. After several calls to PalmOne's customer service and speaking to several nice Indian folks (Note: PalmOne customer service is obviously outsourced overseas), I was told that it would be $125 to have the unit repaired. This was too much to invest in old hardware. I enjoyed the small form factor of that device so much, I decided to buy a T2 (depite PalmOne's abysmal customer service). The appeal of the screen has been mentioned several times. I would agree tremendously! I thought the original screen was pretty good. However, the 320x320 display on this unit makes the original T|T look like someone put window tint on it. I also enjoyed the extra internal memory. The subtle changes with the Palm OS were nice too: like hitting the 5 way button to the right when in your address book to look a name up and the color themes. One aspect that I just could not bring myselft to do was to adopt Graffiti 2. I have used the original Graffiti for so long that using anything else is heresy. For those that are like me, simply grab your old handheld with Graffiti 1 and get a file manager program. Search the ROM for the following two files: Graffiti Library.prc, and Graffiti Library_enUS.prc. Now beam them to your new handheld. Do a Soft Reset on your new handheld and PRESTO, you now have Graffiti 1 again. If I had any advice, it would be to buy PalmOne products with a credit card that doubles the manufacture's warranty because their customer service is terrible and they will deny warranty service if your handheld is 1yr and 1day old.
Rating: Summary: Never another Palm! Review: I bought my T2 7 months ago and, after spending many, many hours trying to get this outwardly delightful and robustly-featured product to perform satsifactorily, have reached the bottom line: $300 (my original price) paper weight and labor-wasting device. My T2 never synced satisfactorily with my Dell, Windows-XP-equipped computer (which handles other addons including a digicam and ipod perfectly). Eventually, Palm tech support threw up their hands and allowed me to return it for repair. Over a month later I got it back --incapable of even taking a charge. Following more consultations and negotiations, Palm finally agreed to send me a reconditioned unit. The refurbished lemon arrived after another few weeks and refuses to synch at all, even with extensive kibbitzing from the tech staff over the phone (for which they originally tried to soak me for $25 since it had been more than 90 days since I bought the original lemon). The final straw was that, having followed in minute, cautious detail all Palm's written and phone instructions to the letter, I lost -- what, 100s of hours-worth of data-entry over the years? -- when the copy-data-before-reinstall-software procedure saved exactly none of my files. Unretrievable, gone. Refund: don't even think about it. I will never buy another product from this company.
Rating: Summary: Great Product! Review: Palm has made another great product! I love my T2. I keep tons of information from work and personal stuff on mine. I have no problem syncing my information from my work computer and home computer. Some of the problems discussed above can be avoided by clicking on the hotsync, custom option. This will allow you to decide if you want the data on your handheld to overwrite the data on your computer or vice versa. Using this great product will do nothing, but make your life easier and more organized if you put the time into it. There are an infinite number of programs available for it. I still favor the Palm OS because of its simple structure, that is exactly what I need. I hope you all have the same experience I have had with thie product!
Rating: Summary: Buy It From Amazon! Review: I am very attached to my m515, and so when I wanted to upgrade I read all the reviews on Amazon. I chose the Tungsten T2 based on the reviews. In order to save a few bucks, I made the mistake of ordering my handheld from palmone.com instead of from Amazon. I received the box in the mail...but with NO HANDHELD IN THE BOX! I have been working with PalmOne for five days, and I still do not have a handheld. While they are polite when I call, I don't think they believe me. I may be out $250. Amazon is very reliable, but I have nothing good to say about the service from PalmOne. They can't even manage to get the handhelds into the boxes.
