Summary: Inconsistent. Works great WHEN it chooses to work.
Review: Buyers beware of highly inconsistent quality of Palm Vx device. I love my own Palm Vx and bought one for my mom. However, she has had nothing but problems with her Palm Vx. Her Vx crashed several times, and everything got erased. In addition, her Vx never managed to charge up its battery, and it runs out of power immediately when out of the cradle. I apologized profusely to my mom for the bad behavior of her Palm Vx, and we returned it. Now she wants something with the Pocket PC format.

While my own Vx works just find most of the time, I have been having trouble with the USB hotsync cable. The cradle works fine, but the USB cable worked only once and has failed to work again.

Summary: Excellent product but ....
Review: ... I wish that I had purchased a Handspring Visor instead.

I agree with all the positive comments that the other reviewer make regarding this unit. The unit is robust (helpful if you drop it), convenient (fits nicely into your pocket), has easy to use software and comes with enough memory that you can download a lot of mail to read offline.

However, it is just too expensive when compared to other handheld units. You can get all these great features on a Visor for half the price. In addition, the handspring comes with cheaper, more interesting plug in cards.

The biggest advantage of the palm Vx over the handspring is that is much "sexier". Smaller and more streamlined than the Palm III style Visor.

The Palm Vx is convenient, stylish and powerful. Too bad it is overpriced.

Review: I used to make fun of my friends who had owned PDA's. 'A glorified organizer or calculator that I could buy at any store for 10 bucks around Christmas.' WRONG.

I bought my Palm Vx so that I could manage and track my time better. Maybe it was a little overkill at the time, but since then - I go nowhere without it. I now have the optional keyboard, wireless modem, extra carry cases, premium stylus, software, etc. The wireless modem is the best, although service is a bit expensive.

I have bought commercial software and downloaded shareware. I used a Palm money loan program to catch a 'mistake' the salesman made in figuring out a car loan.

Once you have a Palm Vx, you are hooked and will easily understand WHY people swear by their impact in daily use.

It's easy to use and to learn. If you are even remotely thinking it can be of use to you .... Buy it. You'll be glad that you did.

Review: I am an information junkie and constantly lose the PostIts I store information on. My Palm is easier to work with than Post Its and just as user friendly!

Summary: Excellent investment--from a non-techie perspective
Review: You can read the tech specifications and instructions and try to make a decision--but from the perspective and experience of the average user, this is an excellent product. The calendar and address books are excellent tools that help you stay on top of daily tasks. In addition, synchronizing is a breeze which makes sure that you do not double book appointments, schedules etc.

It takes sometime to get used to the graffiti, but once you get tye hang of it, you are ready to go. And in themeantime, you can always use the keyboard layout to enter your data. And what better way to spend your commute than playing solitaire (well, there are other good ways...)

It is an excellent investment.

Summary: Will the real palm please stand up!!!
Review: When my Palm III finally died on me it was time to shop for a new handheld. But with so many choices out there it was hard for me to decide on one. Between all the new manufactures and models that are available out there, I narrowed it down to Palm and Handspring. But after more asking and more researching I still decided on a hand held from Palm, the Palm Vx. My decision was based on two main factors, the ability for future OS upgrades, and compatibility with all the thousands of software out there. (Note: Visor hand helds are not OS upgradable, and many Palm software are not stable running on a visor. Just check out some of the user reviews on Palmgear.com and you will notice a trend.) Although the visors are nice units with lots of addons and gadgets, but I have no future plans of using my handheld organizer as a digital camera, or a mp3 player. May be my kids will take advantage of all the gadgets, but to me it's a business and personal organizing tool and not a toy. When you try to do too much you will most likely end up with nothing, and that's the case of the visor! Ok, 5 stars...why? It's stable, it's professional, it's upgradable, it's well made, and it does the job with style! If you want a quality handheld that can be upgraded to future OS and full software compatibility with worry free operation then buy the original from Palm!

Summary: The best organizer
Review: I was finally able to put all of my sticky notes and my calendar all in one place and not have to worry about the sticky notes falling out.

I never thought I would have so much of my life tied into one little device. Now I use my Palm for appointment and birthday reminders, my address book which is categorized(!), I have a to-do list, and general notes. I love the fact that I can attach phone numbers to my appointments, so that if I need to reach someone at the last minute, I just pull up the appointment and the phone number is there! I also have notes with directions to appointments attached to the appointment. I have categorized my address book to find specific phone numbers quickly. In my to-do list I have many things planned, such as my knitting patterns that I have yarn for, I also have albums that I would like to buy, books I want to read, movies I want to see, etc. When I go to the book store or music store - I have a list of what I want to buy, which makes browsing quick. I hate being at the music store and forgetting the name of the band that I want to buy and the music store staff has no idea what band I'm talking about because the band is somewhat obscure.

It's simplified my life in more ways than I thought. I love the fact that it fits easily in my purse or bag for easy transport wherever I go. Who ever thought a little piece of equipment could do so much!

Summary: Everyone needs a Palm Vx!
Review: Other reviewers will be able to do a better job than me in discussing the full extent of the Palm Vx's capabilities, but I can give it a ringing endorsement from the technically competent layman. I'm not someone who gets all excited about the latest electronic gadget - the only thing I care about is whether it is truly useful in organizing my life. The Palm Vx has definitely passed that test. I found it incredibly easy to install and get started with, and I was quickly addicted to being able to download Outlook with the punch of a button. Among other things, my Palm has made my cell phone a more useful tool because I now always have hundreds of phone numbers with me at all times. One of the advantages of the Palm Vx over other handhelds is that it is so light and easy to carry. I know lots of people who got Handsprings lured by the promose of all the fancy attachments. To a man they regret it - they don't use the attachments and it's significantly more difficult to carry. Still, the Palm Vx wouldn't be worth it if it was just a very expensive address book. I suggest buying "Palm Pilot: The Ultimate Guide" to find out how to really get the most out of your Palm V. It's an essential supplement to the basic information that comes with the Palm, and it comes with a handy CD with great programs. I've used my Palm Vx for about 8 months and find it more useful all the time. However, I recently put the Palm Vx through the ultimate challenge: I gave my 61 year-old and technicially challenged Dad one for Christmas. Within in hours he was hooked up and writing graffitti like a pro. He's had it for a couple of months, and like me he swears by it.

Summary: A good little product
Review: i give it 3.5 stars.

i like this little gadget b/c it's small, stylish and makes my life more organized. in retrospect, i wish that i did not spend so much on this palm because an average user like myself could never take full advantage of all its features. i use it just to keep phone numbers and appointments.

my one major complaint is that the buttons on the bottom are falling apart. one of them (the datebook one) stopped working all together. i never dropped my palm and it is always in its leather protective case.

i feel that it is a great product, but before you buy, seriously think about how you plan on using it, you may not need to spend so much $$$ on all those memory.

Summary: My third and last Palm
Review: I've been an avid Palm fan for several years, but the experience just buying my Palm Vx has been horrific. The CD was corrupt, but Palm would not replace it until I'd spent a week calling for help. After the replacement CD arrived, strange things kept happening, like 3 months of my MS Outlook calendar being purged! After spending several hundred dollars having tech support come in (thinking it was user error) I started again with Palm Tech support. The hardware was bad, and it took more than 15 hours, over a week and a half to get them to admit it and trade for a refurbished unit. There is now a two week backorder on the re-furbished units. I've since polled friends, and it looks like the Palm Vx has some serious problems as everyone who bought one recently has had problems. Buy a IIIx or a Handspring.
