Rating: Summary: 2nd Palm Pilot Review: I started out with a Palm V three years ago, but 2mb wasn't enough. The Palm VX is adequate for me. I don't really need color or the expansion capabilities.
Rating: Summary: An excellent PDA with a big problem of being delicate. Review: Pros:A. Lightwight & small enough to be easily carried in a pocket. Just handle it gently - it's a delicate device ! B. Lots of free or very cheap applications. I got a lot of my favourite games (pacman, space invaders, tetris, chess, etc) for free, and an excellent spread sheet software for $20. C. Infrared communication is great. I can exchange applications and data with other Palms, and even exchange info between my Nokia 3360 and the Palm's phone book (alas one at a time - a limitation imposed by the Nokia 3360, not the Palm). D. The 8MB of memory are plenty. I have an exchange compatible spread sheet application, games, a year's worth of appointments in the calender, dozens of book phone entries, a few spread sheets, etc, and use only 1.5MB. Cons: A. The major downside of the Palm Vx is that it is delicate. Though I kept the Palm Vx in the special leather wallent, the screen broke twice in eight months. As the warranty doesnt cover the screen breaking, I had to pay for the two fixes nearly as much as I paid to buy the Palm in the first place. B. Syncing the Palm to two different computers is problematic. This is especially troublesome to people who would like to keep the Palm, home computer, and office computer in sync. C. The cradle set is somewhat cumbersome. The cradle is used for both charging the Palm and to sync it with the computer. This means that when travelling abroad I have to either carry the whole cradle set (cradle, cables, and transformator which works with both 220V in Israel and 110V in the U.S.) or buy a travel kit. D. Many of the accessories for the Palm are expensive. A set of three styli costs $15, which is high for three pieces of plastic that are mass produced without human touch. A charging kit (just a transformator and a cable) is much more expensive than a charging kit for a cellular phone.
Rating: Summary: Vx "workhorse" Review: First let me say that reviews on Amazon.com have helped me make better purchase decisions many times. I started with Palms about 2 years ago with the IIIx, then came the IIIc, and finally my "workhorse" Vx. My wife uses the original IIIx, I love the color screen of the IIIc, but day in day out at work and at home the Vx is hands down the best. I use it more and more, it never lets me down. I have an adapter that allows me to use my original IIIx modem to check email from AOL when I travel, I can take first generation digital pictures with the Kodak palm pix camera, I can hook up the DeLorme Earthmate GPS antennae to the Vx and monitor my location anywhere in the world, I can sync to Avantgo and get movie listings, stock reports, breaking news, etc. I have three complete books on my Vx... lots of addresses and schedules and I have not used all its 8mb. Sure I would like an M500 series or a Sony clie, but the Vx is still one heck of a great machine. Recently, I was fortunate enough to find on Amazon.com a Rhinoskin aluminum case for my Vx... In summary, color is nice, tons of memory is great, but the Vx does its job quite well ith "only" 8mb. It makes my life simplier and easier. Thanks Palm.
Rating: Summary: SIMPLE & EASY TO USE-AN EXCELENT OVERALL TOOL Review: I'm not a PDA Junky, but I sure stay very busy and this device is the best Christmas gift I've ever had. PALM VX has plenty of Muscle to cover my everyday needs and keeps me focused in my daily reports plus my own personal agenda. ...There's the M515 now with 16MB but will you ever use them? I doubt it.....
Rating: Summary: Perfect School Companion Review: Some of the best money I have ever spent was on the Palm Vx. I use it constantly throughout the day! Complete with shareware and freeware programs such as Due Yesterday and PowerOne Graph, you can replace those bulky graphing calculators and planners, take notes with the grafiti, and make an end to those paper notebooks. The Palm Vx is a simple, small, and strong handheld device. It is on par and works very well. One thing that won't last long is that shoddy leather case that comes in the box. I will probably get a metal case in the near future. Also, the serial cradle can be mindnumbingly slow when synchronizing lots of data such as webpages in AvantGo. You most likely won't be able to find a new Palm Vx now, but there are many great handhelds out there with great value. Its chief competitor would be the Handspring Visor Edge. If you pay a little more, you'll get a more updated version of the Vx, the m500, with a useless expansion card and Palm OS 4.0, which may have compatibility issues with some programs. At these plummeting prices, a PDA in this world is a must.
Rating: Summary: A Little Powerhouse! Review: I have the Palm IIIxe and I purchased this Vx for my son who is heading for college. This little item, which we equiped with the Landware GoType and keyboard will be able to take just as many class notes as a laptop, and is much lighter and cheaper. It certainly does not take the place of the laptop - but the way we see it, the less he needs to carry that computer around, the longer it will last. I find, personally, that this little item can take the place of the laptop in may ways, and the 8 MG's is a LOT of storage. I have found it nearly impossible to load that much space up. I have a total of 32 different add-ons - one which holds a few books, another websites, and another holds many, many documents and databases! All that and I am only using 3892K (about half of the storage).
Rating: Summary: battery problems Review: I have had my Palm Vx for a little over a year. While it worked, it was great. However, the battery will no longer hold a charge. Since there is no way to replace the battery, I have to send it to Palm and they will send me a new one for.... Of course, I will lose any data that I haven't stored in my desktop (which is about a month of data for me). I think all of the newer Palms have replaceable batteries so I would highly recommend one of these.
Rating: Summary: Sweet Review: The Vx is very light, ideal for school. I use it for school, it is small and light to fit in my pocket. The Vx has tons of memory, and games play great. This palm is well worth it's price.
Rating: Summary: How did I get along without it? Review: I love my palm Vx. I put alarms for all my meetings, appointments, my daughter's school functions, birthdays etc. I make notes on things that need to be done and my phone directory is always with me. The only improvements I hope will be made is that phone functions will be added and the calendar can show a week or month of appointments at once.
Rating: Summary: Just Love It Review: I started with the IIIe, then I got the Vx. It is small, compact and easy to use. The only problem I see, is they keep getting better and I always want the new one. However, the Vx is working great 1 year later and going strong. I also purchased the keyboard and use it in meetings for notes. I really am very pleased with this product.
